1.0 out of 5 stars Easy install BUT...........

So I got the assembly today, worked (mechanically) perfect in my hand so I was stoked and installed it, all the electronics plugged in, triple checked every connection, screws, and clips. Key rotation and wheel lock functional. I connected the ground terminal to the FULLY CHARGED battery and got in and turned the key- NOTHING! No dash indicators, no sound, no start. So, all that for nothing. Another few days of not being able to get to work. Waste of money in my opinion. Being a mechanic- this isn't my first time doing this!

From what ive read, this is over $1000 from the dealership to replace. Im guessing due to having to drill bolts out, and then them charging like $300 for the part.
I wish I would have caught this problem sooner, got stranded in a town for 10 hours, luckily for me, my dad had the same issue before and knew what to do. Vw uses ignition bolts that shear the head off when torqued, which makes sense in safety, it just leaves for a very expensive fix for the owner 10 years down the road.
Now for the part. The quality is decent, its definitely different material than the stock one but still feels decent. The switching part itself feels nice, and works well as of 2 weeks installed.
MAKE SURE YOU BRING OVER YOUR KEY AND PART THAT IT GOES INTO. THE BLACK RING IS THE PART THAT IS TIED TO YOUR CARS COMPUTER. i just used both parts that came out of my old one because they still worked and why not. Make sure you assemble the key portion into the metal switch correctly, i had to Dremel my old one because i was dinking around with it and put it in the wrong way.
Now for the bolts, you need m8 size, 1.25 thread pitch, i used allen head style. The 20mm worked for me, but i also didnt torque them down as much as i wanted to, but it isnt load bearing. You probably want to use these incase this cheap part fails, but in all honesty, if you gotta replace it once or twice a year for $50, that's still gonna probably save you money compared to what the $1000 the dealership would charge. Im not saying its going to fail, but you never know.
Would definitely recommend overall.

Installed this on my 07 Chevy 1500 along with new door cable . It’s somewhat easy to install if you have the proper tools to get the door panel out . Somewhat difficult to install , you have to remove a couple rods but there are videos. I bought a different one from a different seller and this one is better quality .Made me door sound more secure and feels like a new part when opening the door .

I installed this on a 2006 Jetta TDI that had the dreaded stuck key problem. This product fit perfectly. Once I got the old one out and swapped the transponder receiver, I installed it and it worked on the first try. I have driven it over 900 miles with multiple starts and haven’t had any issues. Definitely recommend this.

Great price. Worked perfect. Pain to install but that's just because of where it is installed. Very pleased.

Find yourself a youtube video. If you're handy and have the right tools ready to go, it's a 30 minute process at most.
I did it in about 30 minutes including having to remove the door panel twice because the first time I forgot to reconnect one of the harnesses and it fell behind the door.

Tools needed:
10mm socket with long extender
Torx bit (I think its a T25, fairly big)
small flat screwdriver
plastic pry-bar (I used a bicycle tire remover).
flashlight (yes, even during the day)

Door panel comes off with 3 10mm bolts hidden behind plastic covers, several plastic pop clips around the sides and bottom, and then lift it up off the door to remove. Pop out the switch panel and remove connectors, disconnect wire pull attached to door handle.

The actuator is attached at 6 points: Torx bolts to door, 3 metal rods, the pull cable and the wiring harness.
-Drop a flashlight into the bottom of the door so you can see better.

-Take a picture of the actuator in the door so if you get lost, you can remember how everything is attached.

-My suggestion after doing this is to first disconnect the rod attached to the yellow clip (hint, the clip opens by pushing the tab towards the OUTSIDE of the car).

-Then unclip the rod attached to the key. Don't try to unhook it from the actuator. It is connected to a red plastic clip up at the top and can be removed by pushing the rod towards the BACK of the car.

-Remove the torx bits.

-Now you can move the actuator around within the door to unclip the pull cable and the wiring harness. The wiring harness is released by sliding the red plastic tab up. 2 rods will still be attached to the actuator, the key lock rod and the one going up to the lock indicator. Remove all from the door.

To reinstall:

-Attach the key lock rod and lock indicator rod to the new actuator

-Slip the lock indicator rod up into its position in the door and attach the key lock rod back to the red clip.

-Attach the wiring harness and cable pull

-Bolt the actuator to the door with the torx bolts

-Attach the door handle rod to the yellow clip

-Reattach door panel with all wiring harnesses and the cable pull

For the price compared to an auto parts store... it's worth it... with the video on youtube... it was pretty easy to install... after i installed it... it worked perfect... except... with no key in the ignition and the door open... it chimed... i was going to pull it out and reinstall is... but the next time i went out there... it kinda fixed it self... can't explain it... it sat for a couple of weeks... coz it was cold and I didn't want to work on it... but when i opened the door... no chime... everything works like it should... 3.0 out of 5 stars careful fitting will be required

Reviewed in Canada on August 22, 2022

Careful fitting of this product WILL be required as the plastic parts are over sized and need to be trimmed to fit correctly. This item is required to have a functional ignition system. Caution is required as this item can break unexpectedly. Once it is installed correctly, operation of the ignition should not be aggressive as it will lead to a broken pin again.
