It’s just that when that gift card is from a sporting goods retailer and you’re the least athletic person ever, it doesn’t quite work. But, that’s okay! Here’s a list of eight verified places to sell your gift cards and put them to good use — just in a different way.

1. CardCash

CardCash is one of the most reputable sites for selling unused and unwanted gift cards. You can either exchange your gift card for one from an establishment you’d prefer, or sell it to CardCash for a fraction of its value.

CardCash makes immediate offers on gift cards to be sold, typically ranging from 80% to 92% of the card’s value (but never 100%, which is how these sites generally work). If you accept the offer, the payment is deposited into your PayPal account or bank account. If you’d prefer the paper route, it can be issued via check within two days of accepting the offer.

On the other hand, gift card trades generally take longer than 48 hours, but you may get a value boost.

2. Raise

Raise makes it easy for people to sell gift cards with a three-step process on their website. Unlike CashCard, where you sell your gift cards to the platform itself, Raise is a facilitating platform where you can sell your gift cards to another person. Similar to CashCard, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to earn the full cash value of the gift card — it must be sold at a discount. You also must pay Raise a commission fee upon selling the gift card. Plus, you’ll cover the shipping fee if you’re sending a physical gift card to the buyer.

Raise’s distinguishing factor is that you can sell partially consumed gift cards on the site. There has to be at least a $5 balance on virtual gift cards, and a $10 balance on physical gift cards. The maximum gift card value that can be sold on Raise is $2,000. Payment for sold gift cards can be received via Paypal or direct deposit.

3. ClipKard

ClipKard accepts unused gift cards from a wide range of retailers and businesses. Their website has a quote tool offering a discounted rate based on the monetary value of your gift card. If you accept to sell the gift card for that value, you can then send it to ClipKard. Physical gift cards can be mailed with a prepaid USPS shipping label, which is covered by the company. While the snail mail approach might be considered strange in this tech-savvy age, it’s a good option for those who are keen to avoid gift card fraud online.

After the gift card has been sent to ClipKard and its balance is verified, the agreed payment will be sent through Paypal or a check via mail.

On top of the money you’ll earn from selling your gift card, you’ll also earn points for selling, or buying, gift cards on ClipKard. These points can accumulate to eventually get a discount on future purchases. Bonus!

If you want to sell your gift card for a quick buck, CardSell is a viable option. It’s an app-based platform where you sell your unwanted gift cards to them directly at a discounted rate. Pro tip: Don’t accept the first offer from CardSell, as the system will prompt you to resubmit your gift card and typically offers an additional 10% payout.

CardSell is a relatively smaller market player, so you will likely receive a lower offer than other competitor options—usually about 50% to 75% of the gift card’s value. But it’s a good option for those who want, or need, money right away, as CardSell typically releases the payment within 48 hours or less.

5. GameFlip

GameFlip is the go-to gift card selling, buying, and trading portal for avid gamers. It’s a great place to earn cash in exchange for gift cards to Xbox Live, PlayStation Network (PSN), Google Play Cards, iTunes, and Amazon.

To sell a gift card on GameFlip, you must create a GameFlip profile, list the gift card/s you are looking to sell and indicate the price you’re willing to sell it for. GameFlip recommends discounting between 2% and 15% of the gift card’s value to make it appealing to buyers. But note that GameFlip also charges a commission fee and a digital fee for digital gift cards. Factor this into your pricing.
