Ruby K. Payne, Ph.D. of Baytown, Texas has been a professional educator since 1972. She has been a secondary-school teacher and department chairperson, an elementary-school principal, a consultant, and a central-office administrator. The lessons learned during these years are the bedrock on which aha! Process, Inc. has been built.

Her first book, A Framework for Understanding Poverty, is a powerful tool for educators to use when teaching children from poverty. She has led hundreds of workshops and has worked with several thousand teachers and administrators, both nationally and internationally. Ruby Payne founded aha! Process, Inc. (formerly RFT Publishing Co.) in 1996 and serves as its president. In that capacity, she continues to consult and write.

This cohort is for leaders in the community to learn to empower, lead, and facilitate the Bridges movement in the future.

Influencing the way individuals think about poverty is key to creating positive change in the community. As part of a community initiative, we adopted a strategy made popular in the Sarnia region of Ontario for mobilizing community change, the Bridges Out of Poverty framework.

The objective of the framework is to look at poverty through an economic lens while exploring other circumstances that contribute to poverty that an individual has no control over. The framework is built on the proven concept that everyone in the community has a role to play in poverty reduction.

We offer Bridges training to anyone interested in learning more about the social and economic impact that poverty has on individuals and our community. Locally, we have already spoken with over 10,000 individuals in the private and public sectors including business, members of the health field, schools and faith-based organizations. Since 2013, we have provided training to more than 40 organizations from various community sectors throughout Wellington, Dufferin and Guelph.
