The Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center is probably the busiest of all the Los Angeles County courthouses on a given day, in part because the Head District Attorney for the county is found here. Due to the volume of criminal cases which are heard at this courthouse, prosecutors are typically more willing to drop charges are agree to a reduction in criminal charges rather than inundate the court with cases to be heard.
While both misdemeanor and felony cases are heard here, the CCB is best known for serious criminal cases, especially on the 9th floor which requires additional security clearance to enter. Judge Lance Ito of the O.J. Simpson murder trial still works in CCB and other highly-publicized trials took place here over recent years.
No matter why you were arrested–a DUI, drug charge, domestic violence accusation, or some other criminal allegation, you need to have a highly-qualified defense attorney with you. Our firm can keep you fully apprised of your legal rights and options, always with your best interests in mind.

If you are being charged in a criminal, traffic, or civil case, you will be ordered to appear in court. In criminal and traffic cases, the courthouse you are supposed to appear for your arraignment (first court hearing) depends on the location of your alleged offense, as well as which law enforcement agency is handling the investigation of the case.
Where and when is my arraignment?
The court date and location can typically be found at the bottom of your citation if you received one. If you were bailed out of jail, the bail company will provide you with a document which will include the date when you are due in court. There are times when you are simply unable to find out which courthouse your case is at. If this is the case, the Law Offices of Lisa Liu will be more than happy to help you figure out which courthouse has jurisdiction over your case.
Make sure that you or your attorney show up to the courthouse on the specified date because you may incur additional penalties if you fail to appear for your arraignment.
Arraignment Hearing and Bail
The arraignment hearing is the defendant’s first court appearance. At an arraignment hearing, the defendant will usually plead not guilty, the defense attorney will be able to view the police report, and the judge will decide whether he or she wants to set bail and put you into custody or allow you to remain free during court proceedings.
If the judge chooses to place you in custody, you will need to pay your bail if you want to be released. If you do not pay bail, you will remain in the custody of the Los Angeles County jail for the duration of your case. Hiring and meeting with a criminal defense attorney before your arraignment can be very helpful because your attorney will have a better chance of convincing the judge not to put you in custody.
