Biomedical engineers must possess a thorough understanding of biology and human physiology. As such, the Stevens BME program includes courses in bio-transport phenomena, biomaterials, and biomechanics, as well as electronics, digital signals processing, medical imaging, and mathematical modeling of physiological processes. Our laboratories include hands-on experience in taking and analyzing data at all levels of biology and physiology.

The biomedical engineering bachelor's degree at Stevens includes the general engineering courses taken by other engineering disciplines, including eight semesters of design. The last three semesters of design are program-specific, with the last two semesters dedicated to a “Capstone Design” project — a team effort to design, build and test a medical device. A typical BME senior design has two or more faculty advisors, including a Stevens faculty member and a physician from one of our collaborating medical facilities.

My 5 years at Stevens have seen the university commit to a soulless conquest to expand as quickly as possible (often at the expense of the student body) while tuition costs skyrocket with little tangible return aside from the shiny new buildings. The administration continually makes tone deaf decisions against the interest of students for how to allocate resources. I personally have had issues with the rude and unhelpful Financial Aid Office, so be careful coming here if you intend to finance a degree with debt. The quality of your education will not be worth the astronomical cost . Stevens is actively constricting Greek Life and the Co-op program. At this point, I can only recommend attending here for those looking into a Finance or CompSci program.

If not for the prime location in a beautiful town and the ability to ride on the coattails of everything happening in NYC, this would be an abysmal school to attend.

Being a student in the computer science department, I have to say I’m slightly disappointed with the offerings at stevens. Some classes feel to specific and not very useful in future careers. A majority of the professors are very strict with their grading, so expect to sink hours of time into an assignment just to receive no credit for one small mistake. Co-op is something Stevens advertises as one of their best programs, enabling students to find a job easily. For CS students, this isn’t the case. Co-ops are rare in the CS field and you’ll find that most of your peers in CS struggle to find job opportunities. The classes are challenging enough and tutoring is almost always available.
