Built-in recirculation system

Navien’s patented ComfortFlow® system is the first to include a buffer tank, recirculation pump and fine-tuned controls into a tankless water heater, resolving the cold-water sandwich effect* and issues of minimal flow rates commonly found in other tankless water heaters.

* The “cold-water sandwich effect” is the undesired introduction of cold water into the hot water supply line on occasions of frequent on/off operations. (Measure Guideline : Transitioning to a Tankless Water heater, DOE, Sept.2012).

5.0 out of 5 stars Instant hot water across the house!

Installed really easily beneath my tankless water heater. Doesn't really make any noise at all, I can feel a slight hum when I hold my hand against it, so I know that it works, and I now have instant hot water in my guest bathroom at the other side of the house! And it doesn't have to be running for normal use of hot water, doesn't seem to add any restriction to my setup when it's unplugged, so I can be conservative with the timer and worst that happens is I have to wait a few seconds for hot water.

We purchased this pump to make it possible to get “instant” hot water throughout our house, especially at the faucets furthest from our hot water heater. It was far from inexpensive so although the listing said it was easy to install, we hired a local plumber to install it to avoid any issues. The installation went fine, and we tested before our plumber left. We were very pleased that we now had instant hot water at all our faucets. But…we didn’t think to check the cold water. We now have lukewarm water at best and warm to very warm water through the cold water pipes.
Our plumber returned and spent hours trying to correct the issue, finally trying to call the customer support number on the literature included with the pump. No one answers that number. We then tried Amazon and a “specialist” called back and gave us different numbers for the company. Our plumber has been trying to get help using those numbers, to no avail.
We are Prime members who purchase almost everything at Amazon and we’ve always been very pleased with the customer service we have received. But the last two major orders we have placed have not gone as expected. This one due to problems with the installation and lack of support, and one where we had a major issue with the delivery of furniture.
Looks like Amazon’s service and support is deteriorating. Be careful what you purchase.

Ordered two of the TV-1 circulators because they were supposed to be for tankless water heaters. Installed the first one and it would start my Takagi T-K3 tankless water heater, but the heater would shut off after 20 seconds or so. Apparently, the circulation pump could not maintain the .4 gpm required to keep the water heater lit. Meanwhile the circulation pump continues to run endlessly but pumps only cold water. Unit seems to be well made, but lacks the capacity to work with some tankless water heaters.

I do hear it kick on, makes a little click, but it’s not an issue. This has really upgraded our hot water system. Instantaneous hot water? Yes!

Take a bit of a time to install but quite simple. The description at times is overwhelmed and can be intidimated for the a novice. Though once you open the package, everything seems to make sense to install.

Vary easy installation. Pretty straight forward just need a couple of wrenches and you have hot water at the end of the run.

Do tankless water heaters have circulating pump?

Rinnai tankless water heaters have built-in pumps with Smart-Circ™ Intelligent Recirculation™ that learns your schedule. No dedicated return line, no problem. A thermal by-pass valve added to the cold water line helps ensure recirculation is enabled, and your unit takes it from there.

Are hot water recirculation pumps worth it?

With the average national cost of water rising rapidly, a hot water recirculation pump could easily save you upwards of $50 each year. Since these pumps cost between $200 and $250 each, you could pay back the investment within a couple of years.
