FB Jail

Facebook has advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantages include the possibility of ending up in Facebook Jail and suffering the consequences. Facebook can produce happiness, but the social media giant can also be a source of great frustration.

Two important notes

This guide mostly relates to my experiences being in Facebook Jail. Other people’s experiences may be different.

When I was in Facebook Jail, I could still read Facebook posts. However, I could not post my own content. Each time I tried, I received a nasty notice from Facebook.

What is Facebook Jail?

Naturally, Facebook Jail is not an actual jail with jail cells with bars inside.

Facebook Jail is a metaphor. You might also consider the phrase Facebook Jail or Facebook Prison slang. The phrase means you’re suspended from using Facebook, so you’re in “Facebook Jail.”

What is Facebook Jail?

Synonyms include “blocked,” “banned,” and “suspended.”

Facebook Jail goes by many names:

  • Facebook Jail
  • Facebook Prison
  • Prison Facebook
  • Facebook Block
  • Facebook Ban
  • Facebook Suspension

Did I miss any? Can you think of more Facebook Jail alternative names?

Facebook has banned your use of your account or limited your ability to use certain features of Facebook.

For instance, if you ever observed, “Facebook blocked me from posting,” you are probably in Facebook Jail.

You will know if you are in Facebook Jail since Facebook will send you a nasty notice telling you you’ve been accused of violating their policies.

Can you use Facebook messenger when you are in FB Jail?

No. You will not be able to use Facebook messenger to post messages or reply to messages while you are in FB Jail.

How many Facebook users are in Facebook Jail?

This is a mystery. Facebook does not release the number of people put in Facebook Jail.

How Do You Know if You Are in Facebook Jail?

via GIPHY

Can you relate to this jail gif?

Do you worry, “How do you know if you are in Facebook jail?” out of concern that you might need to learn how to get out of Facebook Jail?

Don’t worry. You will know.

Here’s how:

If you wonder, “Did Facebook block me from posting?” you might find your account is disabled due to a violation of Facebook community standards.

When you are in Facebook Jail

  • You can’t comment on posts.
  • You can’t like posts.
  • You can’t post on your Facebook wall.
  • You can’t post on your Facebook Page.
  • You can’t post in Facebook groups.

You need this guide explaining how to get out of Facebook Jail.

Each time they sent me the notice that my account was blocked, Facebook never mentioned the term “Facebook Jail,” so I was shocked to hear that’s what that was.

It’s true: I’ve been in Facebook Jail several times. Facebook blocked me from posting.

Do you want to see Facebook’s notifications that you are in Facebook Jail?

Look:

Ouch! When I receive this, I know that I am in Facebook Jail.

If you look at the first two notifications, you see that Facebook also notifies you when you are out of Facebook Jail.

The top notification reports that I have 13 new notifications.

Shall we see what they are?

Look:

Now you know what Facebook Jail looks like.

Notice: Facebook shows me the graphics of the content it considers to be spam content.

You don’t need to wonder what you did to violate Facebook’s policies. Facebook’s Community Support team tells you.

Go to Account/Help and Support/Support Inbox to see these unwanted notifications.

Are you curious whether you have committed violations that might land you in Facebook Jail?

How to Get in Facebook Jail

Why would you want to know how to get in Facebook Jail? Why, so you can avoid committing the actions that land you there.

Reason 1: Spam

Each time I landed in Facebook Jail, the reason was the same: Facebook thought I was a spammer.

I copy-pasted my blog content promotions in one Facebook group after another. I posted in the Facebook groups so quickly, Facebook accused me of spamming.

I posted identical content too many times in a row.

I was shocked I landed in Facebook Jail! In my mind, a spammer is someone who tries to push too often and too hard for their products or services. It never occurred to me pushing content too hard would also be seen as spam.

One way to avoid being seen as a spammer, an over-promoter, is to have a Facebook Business Page.

This is where you can post your promotions and discounts for instance.

UPDATE September 2021

One important note though…

The organic reach of Facebook Business pages is down.

According to the Facebook help center, this is the definition of spam:

“Spam involves contacting people with unwanted content or requests. This includes sending bulk messages, excessively posting links or images to people’s timelines and sending friend requests to people you don’t know personally.”

I don’t feel my quickly copy-pasting of my promotions in Facebook groups that allow promotional content met this description of Facebook spam posts.

That is the problem when you are trying to stay out of Facebook Jail: If you don’t feel you committed the violation in the first instance, avoiding committing the violation that landed you in Facebook Jail again is difficult.

Reason 2: Racism

A short history: In July, Facebook’s sponsors walked out costing Facebook billions of dollars in advertising revenue.

The reason: Advertisers felt Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg prioritized hate for profit.

In a turnaround, Zuckerberg has tried to commit to banning inappropriate content.

Reason 3: Misinformation

Also, Facebook will put you in Facebook Jail for spreading misinformation. This might include misinformation about politics or the Coronavirus.

In fact, a “Plandemic” group posted videos spreading misinformation about the virus on Facebook, and the group’s content was removed.

Reason 4: Inflammatory Behavior

Updated Information May 2021

Inflammatory behavior seems to be another cause of you potentially landing in Facebook Jail.

If you read the comments section of this article, you’ll see someone used the word “idiot” and was banned from Facebook.

My friend was also accused of inflammatory behavior. She reacted badly to what she perceived as a racist comment, and Facebook banned her.

Therefore, if you want to know how to get out of Facebook Jail, you need to try to think like Facebook. If they believe you are upsetting their users, you could be banned.

Reason 5: Fake Facebook Account Information

Update Information June 2021

When you sign up for Facebook, if you give a fake phone number, you will be banned from using the site.

Who Reported Me On Facebook?

If you were put in Facebook Jail due to racist or inflammatory language, someone reported you to the Facebook Oversite Board. However, there is currently no way to know who reported you.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you had a Get Out of Facebook Jail Free Card?

What is a Get Out of Jail Free Card?

A Get Out of Jail Free Card is an expression that means you are able to get out of a bad situation without consequences.

A Get Out of Jail Free Card is also used in the game Monopoly.

Here is the original Get Out of Jail Free Card from the game in case you are not familiar with Monopoly.

Since you don’t have a Get Out of Facebook Jail Free Card, you might as well know how long you are going to be in Facebook Jail.

How long does Facebook Jail last? When can you get out of Facebook Jail?

Before discovering how to get out of Facebook Jail, you might want to know how long a Facebook block lasts.

If you’re in Facebook Jail for a short time, you might not care how to get out of Facebook Jail.

How long does a Facebook Block Last?

The length of Facebook Jail depends on your violation.

Sample Facebook Jail Block Lengths:

  • Spam – 24 hours
  • Offensive content – Longer than 24 hours
  • Arguing with Facebook because they put you in Facebook Jail – Longer than your original ban. Your block gets extended further.

Commenters report these Facebook Jail lengths are consistent. For instance, even if you post just one inflammatory word, you get put in Facebook Jail for posting offensive content. This is the same as if your offensive content were many sentences long.

The Urban Dictionary posted Facebook Jail lengths:

Facebook restricted my account for 30 days how to unblock

One important note though…

UPDATE: If the Facebook block is caused by a Facebook user and not the Facebook platform, the Facebook block will last forever. You will still be able to use Facebook, but you will permanently be blocked from the user’s account unless they remove the FB block.

Facebook Jail 30 Days: Whose Fault?

UPDATED INFORMATION October 30, 2021

The violation for posting offensive content can be up to 30 days in Facebook Jail.

The Political Gabfest’s October 29, 2021 podcast is titled, “Is Facebook Evil?

During the podcast, the hosts examined the question of whether the offensive information posted to Facebook that lands people in Facebook Jail is actually Facebook’s fault.

According to the podcast, Facebook’s claim it wants to help society is false.

The podcasters report Facebook benefits when users post offensive content since the content is so engaging it keeps users on the platform longer.

How to Get Out of Facebook Jail

Do Nothing

The bans I’ve heard of last from 24 hours to 30 days.

Do nothing. Just let the time pass.

If your ban is for 24 hours, 24 hours pass quickly. Then, you can use Facebook again.

Post in a Thread

I learned that I was able to post in threads even though I could not post on the walls of Facebook groups.

Write the Facebook Support Team

Do you believe, “I have been banned from Facebook for no reason?”

If Facebook accuses you of committing a policy violation and puts restrictions on your account, you need to know how to get out of Facebook Jail.

When you receive the dreaded notice that you broke a rule, appeal. That is how to get out of Facebook Jail. Here is the link to appeal.

Before you explore how to get out of Facebook Jail, you should know that your appeal will go through a review process. Here is the link to request a review.

Facebook restricted my account for 30 days how to unblock

The screenshot shows you the information you’ll see when you click the “Request Review” link.

According to the Facebook Oversite Board:

  • Due to the Covid outbreak, they have fewer reviewers examining appeals.
  • You may get two options: Disagree or Appeal
  • Facebook prioritizes the cases where the Board perceives harm over other cases
  • You may not hear back

Here are the instructions to request a review:

  1. Click the dropdown menu in the top right of Facebook.
  2. Select Settings & Privacy, then click Settings.
  3. Click Support Inbox.
  4. Open the message we sent you about taking down this content.
  5. If you see the option, click Request Review.

My experience appealing Facebook’s decision:

Once, the Facebook support team shut down my business page for no reason that applied to me. I appealed; they immediately responded and reinstated my page.

Do they always respond quickly?

No!

When they accuse me of spamming, and I write to appeal, I don’t hear back and must wait 24 hours. That is the most effective way I know how to get out of Facebook Jail.

However, you can try appealing and requesting a review.

Bonus Tip: Look at a Facebook Jail Meme

If you can’t figure out how to get out of Facebook Jail, you might want to change your mindset.

First, realize you are not alone. The expression “misery loves company” may make the situation more tolerable.

UPDATE November 2021: The negativity associated with Facebook’s brand in part led to Facebook rebranding as Meta.

Next, although this situation is upsetting, trying to see any humor at all in being stuck in Facebook Jail may help. Don’t take the situation so seriously.

As indicated, I did not know how to get out of Facebook Jail when I was there, and I was frustrated. However, other people have been able to see the humor in not knowing how to get out of Facebook Jail.

UPDATE: I discovered in November of 2021 that making Jailer Memes is a new trend.

Look:

People post memes joking about being in Facebook Prison before they even arrive there!

Of all the Facebook ban memes I found on Pinterest, I found this the best. It sums up how desperate the Facebook staff seems to throw us in Facebook Jail.

At any rate, this Facebook ban meme helped diffuse my anger ever so slightly, so I am offering look at Facebook ban memes as a bonus tip.

Here is another Facebook ban meme I found amusing:

You will find many other Facebook ban memes on Pinterest.

Even on Facebook, people post banned from Facebook memes.

I assume the Facebook meme creator would get put in Facebook Jail for spreading misinformation.

There are many more banned from Facebook memes at this Facebook account. Most contain mature content.

More Facebook ban memes can be found on Reddit. Redditors don’t seem to know how to get out of Facebook Jail either and say so in memes. Here is the name of an account: “Use a Meme, Go to Facebook Jail.

This is one of my favorite Facebook Jail memes. The message is clear: “Use humor, go to Facebook Jail.”

Politics enter into the discussion of how to get out of Facebook Jail. The meme was posted in the Conservative Reddit subReddit. This is also from a mature account due to the profanity in the meme which is why I am choosing not to post the Facebook ban meme here.

How to Get Out of Facebook Jail Bonus Tip 1

A Quora user recommends using the Duck Duck Go browser to access Facebook. Since Duck Duck Go allows anonymous web browsing, Facebook won’t know you are the one trying to use the site. [CORRECTED INFORMATION: Duck Duck Go is a search engine.]

Note: I have not tried using Duck Duck Go to access Facebook while I was in Facebook Jail nor has the Quora user.

UPDATE: A commenter on this guide revealed: If you want to know how to get out of Facebook Jail, do NOT try Duck Duck Go. The commenter tried it and said it doesn’t work.

November 2020 Update: How to Get Out of Facebook Jail Bonus Tip 2

Don’t panic and argue with the Facebook staff. This seems to have the opposite effect and backfires on the Facebook user. Facebook extends the length of Facebook Jail when you argue. Time is on your side. Wait out the suspension.

“Facebook Blocked Me“

UPDATE September 2021

Facebook blocks have two causes.

Facebook might have blocked you and put you in Facebook Jail. Since trying to figure out how to get out of Facebook Jail is frustrating and time-consuming, waiting out your sentence might be easier.

However, there is an additional reason you might find yourself on the receiving end of a FB block:

A user may have blocked you. Rather than report you and have you put in Facebook Jail, the user has the option of blocking your account.

If someone offends you on Facebook, you can block them as well.

By looking at the word cloud, you see the main complaints of people needing to know how to get out of Facebook Jail because words in a word cloud get bigger the more they are mentioned..

The expression “misery loves company” often holds true.

By reading the experiences of people who reported “Facebook blocked me,” you accomplish several things:

First, you realize you are not alone. Second, and most importantly, you can pick the brains of people who have been in your situation and might get ideas from them.

Here are some commenters reporting their frustrations when “Facebook blocked me.”

From this post on how to get out of FB Jail:

The first time I was in FB jail (actually, it was the URL to my blog that they jailed, not me), it was 24 hours. Then they jailed my URL for a week. Then they jailed my URL for a month, and the last time, it was jailed for SIX months! Yes… SIX MONTHS for posting links to BOOK REVIEWS!

From the Reddit Facebook subreddit:

Got banned for the word ‘push,’ banned for 3 days even though they put my comment back.”

What to Do When You Are Free From Facebook Jail

Complain Facebook Blocked Me

Are you fuming that you landed in Facebook prison? Now that you are free from Facebook Jail, will the experience mar your future enjoyment of the site?

The members of the Facebook subredditoften share experiences of being in Facebook prison. As they say, “Misery loves company.” You might want to check them out and compare experiences about being in Facebook Jail.

For instance, you can ask their violations and how long their bans were. Perhaps even learn from each other so you don’t land in Facebook Jail again and how to get out of Facebook Jail if you ever do wind up there again.

Brag

Did you know you can buy shirts that actually advertise your stint in Facebook Jail?

Look:

Hey, they say Facebook Jail changes a man (or woman). Once you are out of Facebook Jail, why not use the experience for bragging rights? You are in good company. If interested, you can purchase the shirt here.

How to Avoid Landing in Facebook Jail Again

Simple! Avoid committing the actions that caused you to land in Facebook Jail in the first place.

This is your only option since, unlike when you play Monopoly, you don’t have a Get Out of Facebook Jail Free Card.

Look what a commenter who landed in Facebook Jail for 30 days, advised in the comments section of this post:

Facebook restricted my account for 30 days how to unblock

1. Go through your post history. Delete any comments you think may get you more bans.

2. Leave groups. If members have a history of reporting you, and you leave the group, you avoid future Facebook bans.

3. Don’t respond to negative comments. People might be trying to get a rise out of you. Don’t give them the satisfaction.”

This is my first piece of advice when it comes to avoiding landing in Facebook Jail in the future:

Avoid inflammatory content.

For example, you wouldn’t want to post inappropriate content, inflammatory content, or misinformation of any kind.

Avoid spam.

Next, in my case, instead of promoting in Facebook groups repeatedly until I’ve finished, now I take a break. If I have 20 groups to promote to, I do ten at a time.

Another option: I can vary the wording in my promotions so I’m not copy-pasting identical content repeatedly.

Read Facebook Rules

Facebook Rules

Wouldn’t reading Facebook Rules before you risk posting content that will land you in Facebook Jail be better than trying to figure how to get out of Facebook Jail?

Here are the Facebook Rules.

This is a screenshot of the Facebook Community Standards.

There are Facebook Rules governing

  • Violence
  • Criminal Behavior
  • Safety
  • Objectionable Content
  • Integrity
  • Authenticity
  • Respecting Intellectual Property
  • Content Related Requests
  • Content Related Decisions

You might feel you shouldn’t have to study before using a social media site. However, there is an expression about learning the rules before you play the game.

“You have to learn the rules of the game. And then, you have to play better than everyone else.”

Albert Einstein

Finally, you can use a Facebook Group Poster

Facebook Group Poster

What is a Facebook Group Poster?

The MaherPost invented a Facebook Group Poster. This tool automates your Facebook group posting by scheduling your Facebook posts for you.

Note: This would solve my problem of landing in Facebook Jail due to being called a spammer. Then, I would have no need to know how to get out of Facebook Jail.

The Facebook Group Poster is a paid tool. I have not personally used the Facebook Group Poster.

How to Get Out of Facebook

Are you done trying to get out of Facebook Jail?

As indicated, I’ve been there multiple times and struggled with how to get out of Facebook Jail.

Perhaps the last time was one time too many and you’re done with Facebook.

UPDATED INFORMATION DECEMBER 2021

In part due to Facebook’s branding problems being associated with negativity, Facebook rebranded as Meta.

Are you ready for life without Facebook? You may soon be using Meta instead.

UPDATED INFORMATION AUGUST 2021

People who were angry that Facebook banned Trump after the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election wanted to get out of Facebook entirely on the grounds that Facebook is “anti-democracy.” As a result, the #DeleteFacebook hashtag trended on Twitter.

UPDATED INFORMATION JULY 2021

The #DeleteFacebook hashtag reappeared again in July 2021 when the Biden Administration blamed Facebook for misinformation about the pandemic vaccine.

If you want to get out of Facebook, you have options:

  • Deactivate Facebook
  • Delete Facebook
  • Use Facebook alternatives

If these options are too drastic, try slowly weaning yourself away from Facebook until you are out of Facebook altogether.

Deactivate Facebook vs Delete Facebook

If you are done trying to get out of Facebook Jail and you want to permanently leave Facebook, you need to know the difference between deactivate Facebook vs delete Facebook.

When you deactivate your account, you can return anytime. When you delete Facebook, you are permanently deleting your account. If you ever have regrets and wish to return to Facebook, you must begin again with a new Facebook account.

Good news: Before deleting Facebook permanently, Facebook gives you the opportunity to archive your photos and other information you posted to the site. Facebook will email you a zip file with your information. Here you will find a list of information you can archive. Here are more details about downloading your Facebook information.

If you want to get out of Facebook permanently, follow these steps:

Click Settings and Privacy. Click Settings. On the left, click your Facebook information, and then click Deactivation and Deletion. Choose the account you want to delete. Then click Continue. Your last step: Click Confirm.

Facebook Alternatives

The MeWe social media site is considered a Facebook alternative.

Like Facebook, MeWe has networking, groups, and the ability to upload text, videos, and emojis. MeWe actually advertises its site as a Facebook alternative for people who permanently want to get out of Facebook.

More information about MeWe can be found here in these MeWe reviews.

How to Get Out of Facebook Jail Updates

After publishing this article, many Facebook users commented on this post to share their stories of frustration and their perceived injustices in being on the receiving end of bans they don’t feel they deserve.

Some Facebook users believe they are in Facebook Prison. Others call the ban “Facebook Jail.” Others simply refer to being banned from Facebook.

Regardless of the term used, all their stories are heartwrenching. I encourage you to read the plights of the people who ended up in Facebook Jail in the comments section of this post.

UPDATES October 2021:

On October 4, 2021, Facebook went down for six hours.

People saw just how difficult life without Facebook could be. The ecommerce and communications worlds were crippled by the outage.

Facebook Jail memes went out all over the internet. For instance, this FB Jail meme was posted on Twitter:

Now the entire world is in #Facebookjail muahahaha!!! #facebookdown #facebookoutage pic.twitter.com/fGKLyoH4OJ

— Christian Mezzaroba (@CharasmaticHeel) October 4, 2021

When no one could use Facebook, the Twitter user compared Facebook Jail inmates there for violations to Facebook Jail inmates locked out of Facebook due to Facebook problems.

You can read more about the Facebook outage and the history of the world landing in Facebook Jail here: Facebook keeps stopping.

On Quora, an inmate of Facebook Jail reported landing in Facebook Jail and then made an important observation:

“I’m currently in Facebook jail for reposting this hillbilly sign I found to be humorous. In American slang it has a whole different meaning. They said I was spreading hatred and violence by posting it.”

Editor’s Note: The sign said, “If you come on my property, I will beat you off.”

“I just don’t understand why a company as rich and advanced as Facebook can’t figure out what a post is intended for. Maybe we’ve gone as far as possible in the field of Artificial intelligence for this decade.”

UPDATE March 2021:

From reading comments here and in the Reddit Facebook group, it’s clear that Facebook Prison can last beyond your initial jailed Facebook time.

People still need tips on how to get out of Facebook jail even when the ban is lifted. Apparently, they still can’t use the site.

I encourage you to read the comments here. If you know the solutions, please respond to the comments with your advice.

UPDATE February 2021:

Bad news: I am in Facebook Jail again.

Why? The same reason: Facebook accused me of spamming.

This time, I only pasted the same content to three Facebook groups, when I received the notification I couldn’t use the site for an undisclosed amount of time.

In the past my sentence was for 24 hours for this violation. Is my sentence 24 hours again? I don’t know. The automated notice wouldn’t tell me.

Situation Update: As in the past, my Facebook prison lasted 24 hours.

How to Get Out of Facebook Jail: Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a way to get out of Facebook Jail?

Yes! Here is how to get out of Facebook Jail: You can wait until your ban is over to get out of Facebook Jail or you can write to Facebook and appeal the restrictions.

What gets you banned from Facebook?

Content that is considered spam, racist, or misinformation. In other words, any content perceived as inappropriate by Facebook could get you banned.

Am I in Facebook Jail? How do I know if I'm in Facebook Jail?

There are several ways to know if you are in Facebook Jail. First, you will receive a notice from Facebook. Next, go to Account/Help and Support/Support Inbox to see these unwanted notifications. Finally, you won’t have the same use of the site you usually do. Functions of the site will be limited or you will be blocked from using them altogether.

How long is Facebook Jail?

That depends on the infraction. For instance, for spamming, you will be in Facebook Jail for 24 hours. I know someone who argued and they extended the length of his Facebook Jail. Naturally, Facebook Jail can last forever, a life sentence, if Facebook permanently bans your account. Read the comments of this post to see examples of the various lengths of the Facebook Jail depending on the infraction.

How do I appeal a temporary Facebook account block?

If you need to know how to get out of Facebook Jail, write the Facebook support team. Here is the link where you can reach them in order to appeal: https://www.facebook.com/support?tab_type=APPEALS

What happens when you get put in Facebook Jail?

When you get put in Facebook Jail, you get a notice from Facebook that you violated their Community Standards. You can still access Facebook and read content on Facebook. However, you cannot post any of your own content for the length of the ban.

What is Facebook Jail and how long does it last?

Facebook Jail is another name for a Facebook ban or Facebook suspension. You are banned from posting on the site. How long the ban lasts depends on your infraction. The worse Facebook considers your violation of their Community Standards, the longer your ban from using Facebook will be. Therefore, the length of the ban varies depending on what they say you did wrong. In addition, if you try to argue, you could get your ban extended even longer. Therefore, if you want to know how to get out of Facebook Jail sooner than later, don’t argue and try to get the decision reversed.

How do I unlock Facebook Jail?

You can try appealing or asking for a review. However, many people feel the best strategy is to take steps now to avoid landing in Facebook Jail again such as not interacting with critical people. Leave groups they are in if you must.

Does Facebook tell you that you are in Facebook Jail?

Yes. Facebook sends you notice that you violated Community Standards and how long you are in Facebook Jail.

What happens when you get banned from Facebook?

You may be able to log onto Facebook, so you can read other people’s content. However, you will not be able to post your own content or use Facebook Messenger. The length of the ban is determined by the violation.

How long can you be in Facebook Jail?

You can be in Facebook Jail forever. If Facebook decides your violations are severe enough to justify your Facebook account being permanently closed, you will be permanently banned from Facebook and your stay in Facebook Jail will be permanent. Since no one knows how to get out of Facebook Jail, your time in Facebook Jail will last forever.

Is there a way out of Facebook Jail?

No. No one knows how to get out of Facebook Jail. Since no one from Facebook responds to appeals, we still don’t know how to get out of Facebook Jail.

In addition to being thrown in Facebook Jail, you can get punishments on other social media sites.

Instagram Shadowban

Although the rest of the guide explains how to get out of Facebook Jail, this section explains how to get out of Instagram Jail.

An Instagram ban is called a “shadowban.”

Like with Facebook Jail, the best action to take if you find yourself on the receiving end of an Instagram shadowban is simply to wait out the length of the suspension.

What might cause you to receive an Instagram shadowban?

Violations of social media rules cause you to receive punishments on those sites.

For instance, on Facebook, you’re put in Facebook Jail. On Instagram, when you receive a shadowban, your account is suspended or dismantled.

Instagram Shadowban Example 1:

Each time I tried to use a third-party unfollow app to unfollow on Instagram, I received nasty warnings from Instagram. They threw me out of the site and asked me to reset my password. This was a temporary shadowban.

Instagram Shadowban Example 2:

Someone actually cloned my account on Instagram. I reported the violation, and the offender’s site was dismantled. This shadowban was permanent.

Instagram Shadowban Example 3:

UPDATE March 2021: Instagram repeatedly dismantles my account when it says I’ve been a victim of “phishing.” Technically, this may not be called a “Shadowban” since a Shadowban is a penalty. However, I am banned from using Instagram, so I am adding the experience here.

I reached out to the r/Instagram subreddit for help after my account was dismantled frequently by Instagram with the same warning: I was a victim of phishing.

Someone suggested I was logged into my account on too many electronic devices at the same time. Now, I only go into my Instagram account on my mobile device, and I am fine. That problem seems resolved.

Twitter Ban

I recently read in the Twitter Reddit subReddit that a user was banned from Twitter for writing disparaging comments about former President Donald Trump.

If you find your Twitter account suspended, these Redditors discuss how to get your Twitter account unlocked.
