Furniture layout for rectangular living room with fireplace and tv

Living Room with Fireplace and TV: A living room is a space for your friends and family to gather, making options for entertainment essential as you design. Having simply a coffee table with some magazines may look cultured and clean, but in reality, will bore your guests. A fireplace and TV bring fun functionality but can also clutter your room. I have some designer tips and tricks, from TV placement to room layout, that will help you tackle your space.

Family rooms can also be a daunting challenge due to the sheer amount of design elements involved. What furniture to purchase, how to arrange furniture, what type of fireplace will look best – these are just a few considerations to make before you even get to

Luckily, I’ve searched for you and discovered 30 inspiring designs that include both a TV and fireplace without feeling overcrowded.

Ribbon Fireplace

This spacious example stacks appliances with a modern twist. The long ribbon fireplace adds an element of luxury to the design.

Tilting the TV will also help prevent neck strain when watching from a lower set couch. I personally like the spacious and inclusive shape of this tufted sectional.

Focus on the Fire

This design keeps you focused on the ambiance of the fire and the people around you instead of a TV screen. It is perfect for a family that is redecorating with quality time in mind.

Using a frame to mount the TV makes it part of the decor rather just than a hunk of black technology on the wall.

Take your modern design to the next level with an inset fireplace and mounted TV. This allows features such as the industrial hanging lamps to shine while maintaining your minimalist style.

This living room layout is excellent for a family that wants to spend time together, but not necessarily doing the same activity.

I like the combination of hard lines and curves to add grace to this effect around the simple inset TV and ribbon fireplace. The furniture layout in this design is unique since it does not include a sofa.

Minimalist Comfort

Including both a TV and fireplace doesn’t mean your room has to feel focused on those elements.

Modern furniture such as these streamlined shelves prevents the appliances from taking over. The TV is a focal point without truly being the center of attention.

Firewood Storage

This traditional wood fireplace provides an important space saving option – firewood storage.

The unique layout of the TV and fireplace create a more spacious feeling in this small living room.

I always suggest mounting your TV to save space. If you are limited on wall space, the best location for your TV is above your fireplace. If you want try a more modern layout, try offsetting your TV from your fireplace to create a geometric aspect to your design.

Consider your furniture layout and the importance of your TV and fireplace as focal points. If the TV is always playing a big game, bringing company to gather around it, then it should be visible from any seat. If you want to experience the ambiance and company above all, try a more circular arrangement.

There is more than wood or gas when it comes to choosing your fireplace. Picking a design that flows with your room is essential for it to feel natural and comfortable. I like to use ribbon fireplaces when designing more modern areas. Traditional wood fireplaces are excellent in living rooms that bring in some farmhouse or rustic elements.

Designing your family room is difficult, especially when you want to include multiple features such as a TV and fireplace. Considering your personal design style and space needs to be your first step when planning. Next, you can work on the layout and spacing of your furniture and decorations. You’ll know your family room has finally come together when your friends and family can’t stop coming together in your new space.

How do I arrange living room furniture with a fireplace and TV?

Put the TV on a perpendicular wall, then position your sofa opposite the TV set or the fireplace. If you have extra room, you can place it across from each so you can create two separate seating areas. Fill in empty areas of the room with a coffee table, an ottoman, or a comfortable pouf for extra seating.

Where should a TV be placed in a living room with a fireplace?

As far as TV placement, you will want to mount your TV in the corner where your fireplace wall and a perpendicular wall meet. This, again, ties back to simplifying furniture arrangement by keeping key points of focus in closer proximity.
