About Us

My husband and I are a small breeder of German Shorthaired Pointers located in Ocklawaha, Florida.  After breeding Weimaraners for 8 years  we decided to breed German Shorthaired Pointers.  We fell in love with the GSP breed. They are beautiful, smart and make the perfect family pet or hunting companion.  Our dogs are bred for exceptional temperament, calm disposition, intelligence, soundness, quality and health.  The puppies have georgeous markings with the classic shorthair qualities. Whether enjoying the outdoors or just lying on our sofa, they are always an important part of our family. We do our very best to ensure each puppy goes to a wonderful loving home.

Meet the Pointer

German shorthaired pointer puppies for sale in florida

Bred to point birds and small game animals, the Pointer has been a recognized breed by the American Kennel Club since 1878. The most famous Pointer, Sensation, who was imported from England in 1876, adorns the emblem of the Westminster Kennel Club to this day.

While best known for his hunting work, the Pointer is a fun-loving and mischievous dog that loves being a part of a family. While he loves to work, he is just as happing playing fetch all day or lounging on the couch with you.

However, as an active dog, the Pointer does need at least an hour of vigorous exercise each day. As a puppy, they can become destructive without regular exercise and something to keep them busy.

Early training is also a must. The average Pointer stands between 23 and 28 inches at the shoulder and can weigh between 45 and 75 pounds. Pointers have a short, smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors and patterns.

These can include liver, black, orange, and lemon with or without a white background. While you can occasionally get a tricolor, bicolor variations with white and another color are more common. When looking at the Pointer, you can find German Shorthaired and English Pointers.

While both are similar in size, the German Shorthaired Pointer only comes in a liver or liver and white coat. IF you are looking for a hunting Pointer, either Pointer is good, but the English Pointer is somewhat calmer than the German and tends to make better family pets.

Pointers are generally healthy dogs, but, as with other breeds, they can be susceptible to genetic conditions such as hip dysplasia and progressive retinal atrophy. While puppy mills do not take this into consideration, reputable breeders too.

They typically have their breeding dogs’ DNA tested to detect these genes and remove them from the breeding program. This helps ensure you receive a healthy, happy puppy. But how do you know what to look for when looking for a reputable breeder? Let’s look closer at the different types of breeders.

  • Reputable Breeders: A reputable breeder typically focuses on one or two dog breeds and has been working with those breeds for some time. They focus heavily on the health of their dogs and puppies, with DNA testing a crucial part of their breeding program. In most cases, puppies come with a health guarantee for at least a year against genetic conditions. Litters are planned, and they typically only have a couple a year, at most, depending on how many breeding dogs they have. Their puppies are a part of their family, and they focus on early socialization to offer well-rounded puppies. They also take care to find suitable matches for their puppies and the families looking to adopt. Do not be surprised if you must go on a waiting list for an upcoming litter.
  • Puppy Mills: Puppy mills are in the business of making a profit from puppies. They often breed many different dogs, having many different litters each year. They do not consider genetic health conditions and rarely DNA test their breeding dogs. It will likely be in a different location than where the dogs are bred when meeting the breeder. While it is often easy to get a puppy from a puppy mill, you risk getting an unhealthy puppy with potential genetic conditions.
  • Backyard Breeder: This type of breeder is a combination of both. They typically only offer one dog breed. The puppies are treated well and a part of their family. They are often not genetically testing the dogs, and you risk possible genetic conditions. The goal of the backyard breeder is to spread their love of their dog breed.

How much is a German Shorthaired Pointer dog worth?

German Shorthaired Pointers cost between $800 and $1,000 on average for a field-lineage puppy. Dogs bred for show or who have already received training in hunting may cost as much as $3,000 or $4,000. Lifetime expenses of owning a GSP will add to the cost.

Is a GSP a good house dog?

The GSP is a very affectionate, loving companion that mostly likes children and other dogs, though since they're so rambunctious, some experts advise against having them in households with children under seven.

Does GSP bark a lot?

That people-loving personality causes the GSP to be unhappy if left alone for long periods, and he can become nervous and destructive if he's not provided with regular companionship and exercise. He'll bark at strangers but isn't aggressive.

Are GSP dogs clingy?

German Shorthaired Pointers loves people and will want to be around family at all times, almost to the point of being clingy. They will often follow your every move around the house and need to know where all members of the family are at all times.
