BonesFOX's "Bones" - Season Eleven Credit: FOX via Getty Images This crime procedural — starring Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz — found the perfect mix of comedy and drama, as it followed the unlikely team-up of forensic anthropologist of Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan and FBI special agent Seeley Booth. That's why Bones ran for a whopping 12 seasons on Fox! Creator Hart Hanson based the series on the very real relationship the FBI has with the scientists at the Smithsonian, as Bones and Booth worked together to solve murders — and, of course, grew closer as their working relationship turned into something more. Starring Titus Welliver as the titular Harry Bosch, an LAPD homicide detective, the police procedural has debuted seven seasons — and a spin-off series, Bosch: Legacy, in 2022 — making it a solid binge. The BoysThe Boys Ep 101 Credit: Jan Thijs/Amazon Prime Season 2 of The Boys went out with a bang, a whammo, and a kapow, proving in a way that Marvel could never dream that women do indeed get it done. The superhero dramedy also secured a surprise Outstanding Drama Emmy nomination in 2021, setting stakes and expectations even higher for season 3. Not to worry, however, as showrunner Eric Kripke brought a dayslong superhero orgy ripped straight from the extremely graphic novel's pages to the small screen. Originally broadcast by the U.K.'s Channel 4, but exclusive to Amazon in the U.S., Catastrophe earned a number of accolades, including a Peabody nomination, several BAFTA nominations — with Delaney and Hogan winning for their writing in 2016 — and two Primetime Emmy nominations. Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak's NBC series lands more on the comedy side of the genre spectrum. Starring Zachary Levi in his career-making turn as the nerdy, awkward IT guy Chuck Bartowski, the cult-classic series begins when he accidentally downloads thousands of encrypted images containing the combined secrets of the CIA and NSA into his brain, making him the most important asset to both government agencies. Watching Chuck evolve from a hapless fish out of water, thrown into life-or-death situations, into a superspy in his own right is just one of the many joys of this cult classic show. Watching him and his CIA handler Sarah Walker develop feelings for each other is even better. The period drama begins when characters discover mysterious footage showing Germany and Japan losing the war (a.k.a. the real version of events), as they attempt to learn more about the unknown person believed to have made the newsreels. The Marvelous Mrs. MaiselCalling all Gilmore Girls fans — if you've been missing Amy Sherman-Palladino's signature fast-talking, witty, plucky heroines, this Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning Amazon Prime original is made just for you. Starring Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein, this period comedy follows Miriam "Midge" Maisel, a housewife in late-1950s–early-1960s New York City who discovers her passion lies in stand-up comedy. Against the odds, she actually pursues a career in it, fighting misogyny and sexism in the comedy world every step of the way. This dark series is one of the rare times that pop culture has gotten hacking right, as it's widely praised by coders, cybersecurity firms, and hackers for its accurate depictions of hacking scenes. And the extremely unreliable narrator will constantly keep you guessing in the best way, since not even Elliot knows what's real. Amazon Prime Video's anthology series Modern Love is based on The New York Times' popular column of the same name, and each episode brings a new story about love to life. The romantic comedy series can be heartbreaking, heartwarming, inspiring, shocking, and so much more, as episodes explore the intense complexities of love, in all its forms — this one's for all the romantics out there. The acting phenom plays more than five different characters, each more distinctive and different than the last, in this sci-fi series about the moral, ethical, and psychological implications of cloning. The five-season drama begins when Sarah Manning witnesses the suicide of a woman who looks exactly like her. She assumes the woman's identity and slowly uncovers the shocking truth about her own life — and that of all the other clones of her in the world. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang, Paper Girls meets 33-year-old Erin Teing (Ali Wong) crossing paths with her preteen self from 1988 (Riley Lai Nelet), along with her young posse of time-traveling newspaper pals. We've seen an '80s renaissance in media with projects like Stranger Things and the Fear Street trilogy, but its comic creators are here to give us a "death threat" to the romanticized decade, offering the phrase "killing time" a whole new meaning. At a scant, highly-bingeable two seasons — 18 episodes in total — Patriot (2017–18) was, as EW TV critic Jeff Jensen said in his review, "a strikingly original dramedy." From Pursuit of Happyness scribe Stephen Conrad, Patriot follows secret agent John Tavner (Michael Dorman) as he bungles his way through a government plot to impede Iran's nuclear ambitions that involves working at a Milwaukee piping firm. Misunderstandings and shady dealings abound. Despite its spy-like low profile, Patriot managed to snag a Critics' Choice Television Award nomination for Best Comedy in 2017, losing out to Amazon's buzzier chuckle-fest, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
