In the west hills of Portland is the upscale planned community Forest Heights. The design of this community was well-planned to provide plenty of green space; in fact, one-third of the neighborhood is designated green space that includes walking trails, recreation areas, and common spaces. The Forest Heights neighborhood consists of mostly residential areas with single-family homes and luxury townhomes; however, a shopping complex was added back in 2005. The shopping complex offers restaurants, grocery shopping and other stores.

The Forest Heights Village is where most residents do their shopping as there's a Fred Meyer, markets, shops, banks, salons, clinics, and a few restaurants. Residents are no more than about 10 to 15 minutes from downtown Portland yet miles away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Forest Heights Park is another popular location within this community, featuring playgrounds, a plaza, and multiple paths. It's located at 2999 NW. Miller Rd. This nearly three-acre park was built in 1995 and has become a popular neighborhood park.

Mill Pond Park has been considered the "living room of Forest Heights" with over eight acres, lots of green space, playground facilities, barbecue and picnic areas, restrooms, and an amphitheater perfect for summer concerts. With paved walking paths and fitness stations, a beautiful pond, and the native vegetation and wildlife, Mill Pond Park is a popular place for many Forest Heights residents.

Forest Heights does have an active homeowners association that ensures the habitats, trails and overall appearance of both the common spaces and the homes in the neighborhood. A huge bonus residents have living in Forest Heights is a shuttle service that runs to the Sunset Transit Center.
