Grape Creek Vineyards

Winery specializing in French & Italian varietals, with tours & Tuscan-inspired tasting rooms.

Slide 1 of 3

I love it here! It’s absolutely stunning and you feel as if you’re in Tuscany, Italy from the moment you come on site. You drive through picturesque vines on your way up to this gorgeous Tuscan villa. My boyfriend and I have been multiple times as it is our favorite and this time we had the pleasure of having Samantha Stiewig as our Tasting Ambassador. She was a hoot! So much fun, hilarious, and just super knowledgeable of each wine we tasted. She is fabulous and we look forward to having her again on our next visit. We are going to be sure to request her! We had also never eaten on the Member Patio before and this time got to enjoy a wonderful lunch. The food was super delicious and the service was great. We cannot wait to come back soon!

To start, all the staff was super nice & accommodating. Greg was a great guide durning our tour! He was very knowledgeable, accommodating & sweet. The wine was also really really good. We also had lunch after. We had such a good time. Def will be back

I took my husband to this vineyard on his birthday to experience wine tasting and he absolutely loved it. It was a nice vineyard located on the hill country. Wine collections were so good and authentic. Our host treated us well and it was a fun experience. If you want their wine to be delivered home on a regular basis, they do have membership plans. PS - Wine tasting experience cost is $30 per person.

Becker Vineyards

Family-owned vineyard offering tastings & tours as well as estate-grown lavender products.

Slide 1 of 3

Becker was by far our favorite winery from our TX Hill Country road trip. The premises are beautiful. Wines are very good as well. Loved their port!! But what made it even more amazing was the service we received from Shaylah!! She is very knowledgeable and explained all the wines we tasted very well. Always received us with a big smile every time we came back for the next pour. We definitely plan to go back and, yes we will join their wine club so we could get their wines in FL!

Amazing place, people are incredibly nice and they treat you like family. Wine is the best in the Hill Country and their events are always a big hit. Very family friendly, bring your own toys for the little ones, we don’t have a dog but I’m pretty sure we’ve seen a dog or two in there, big open space for you to sit or put down a blanket under a tree and enjoy their wine. Plenty of covered space and very affordable, away from the hustle and bustle. Highly recommend the wine club, their pick up parties are a delight. If you haven’t been there, you are truly missing out on the Fredericksburg experience.

Probably the nicest winery in the area. I've read a few reviews that complain about the tasting price. Becker has partnered with Ridel for the wine glasses. Becker let's you keep the glass as part of the tasting. The retail value of the glass is $35. The tasting is $25. Ridel sells their glasses at a 40% discount when bought in bulk. So Becker is literally giving away the wine as part of the tasting since you get to take the Ridel glass home. Second choice is pedernales cellars. Nice wine. Nice people. Good music. Started the tours again ... But the person who gave the tour was a server and not very knowledgeable about wine making itself. She mostly talked about the winery history. Debra waited on us; she was great. My friends had come to Fredericksburg for the first time. We were there for three days. We went back twice to enjoy a bottle at the end of the evening or to listen to music. Highly recommend sharing a tasting instead of ordering one for each person ... A tasting is just that ... You taste and discuss what the wine is ... It is not to just drink a glass of wine in 6 servings. Do it once and learn what you like. Then get a bottle of wine and relax to the music or the gardens. Unlike a lot of other places, they let you keep the glass as part of the tasting. Then again if you want a matching set of Ridel glasses, then get two tastings. The Charcuterie Board is over priced at $25 and individual glasses of wine are as well. Best deal is to buy a bottle and share /enjoy. What you don't finish, take with you. Their Vignoer reserve (served cold) is wonderful on a hot summer day. My friends and I sat and enjoyed two bottles and then bought two cases to take home.

Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site

Tours of the Texas White House (with original furnishings), the ranch & boyhood home.

Slide 1 of 3

This should be a must stop for everyone. So many things to see, trails, all types of wildlife, memorials to read along the way. Luckily when we went it was cloudy. There's a lot of walking if you plan on going on all the trails. The parking was plentiful and there was no charge when we went. We had a blast! Spent at least 2 hrs here but feel we didn't see everything. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

It is a beautiful area and the ranch is lovely. The Texas White House was closed for work, but it was fun to look around the ranch and visit the sites. It is a nice drive and some nice things to see. There are lots of cows and some goat to visit as well. It is worth the stop and only takes an hour or so to see it all.

My sister's and I visited the park on a hill country trip we took together. The park was gorgeous! There is so much to see and do there, and tails to walk so make sure you wear comfortable shoes. The park rangers were friendly and hospitable, they have a great gift shop and clean restrooms. I will definitely be returning with my husband to show him this beautiful jewel in our beautiful hill country and you should visit too! (BTW, if you love wine, the drive there is on the main road to many of the best wines in the hill country, just thought you should know.) 😊

Pedernales Cellars

Family-run boutique winery set on 140+ scenic acres offering tastings, cellar tours & a shaded deck.

Slide 1 of 3

Super cute winery with lots of our door seating and very pleasant views of the surrounding hill country. The winery has a nice selection of red and whites with 1 very good rosé. Their wines are not super sweet and this season they did not have a wine that was sweet. But all of them were very good and the variety offers something for everyone.

If you are looking for a beautiful romantic place to enjoy a glass of wine without any other expectations this place will definitely do the trick. It was not overly friendly and welcoming, had stunning views, but over all it was just nice to try.

We were pleasantly surprised!!! There are no sweet wines here, and I am not a huge dry wine fan, however, all the drys were actually pretty good and easy to drink!! The staff was super nice and the views are beautiful! They allow picnics, so grab a bottle of wine from them and bring your food and enjoy the views!

I love coming back here again. Always a wonderful atmosphere and a superior products. I love their selection of tasty cocktails. What ever your favorite drink they can recreate using their own spin and product.

Love this place! Great food (barbecue truck), great variety of alcoholic beverages and the staff are friendly. Not really staff, they feel more like lifelong friends or distant family. You can't go wrong here. If you're looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, this is the place to go!

Great ambiance, live music a plus, five dollar moonshine tasting was worth the drive from san antonio. Took my grandparents for a day trip away from the city and they loved it! Service was friendly, welcoming, and informative.

First time out at the Vineyard and it was great. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the wine and food. They have a great area for kids to run around. Animals that they can feed. There is a 21 and over spot for adult time. To hear the spring flowing by while you relax is amazing. Nice way to unwind.

Great vineyard and today they had a car show with live music. We have been there several times and it never disappoints. We had their spinach flatbread for lunch, was delicious. Beautiful drive to get there, friendly staff and the eating area is along a creek.

Amazing experience! Beautiful setting, live music, great food, and wonderful wine. A well rounded destination for all. The expansive outdoor seating (the 21and older deck area at sunset is unparalleled). There is a covered pavilion for any spontaneous TX weather inclemency. The views from the drive to the vineyard. Looking forward to our return. Kudos Singing Water Vineyards!

Hill Country State Natural Area

Nature preserve

Nature & Parks

Large park with rugged terrain offering 40 miles of multiuse trails, a campground & primitive sites.

Slide 1 of 3

Great hikes in the hill country. I love the rugged hill country with its rolling hills, rocky paths and dessert plants. It’s unique and breathtaking. The park is sprawling with trails that ranges from easy (prairie type) to challenging (rocky hills through elevations). The views are simply beautiful whichever way you look. Camping is quite basic, a bit close to survive the wild. Parking on premises are limited to 2 locations but there are additional parking spaces at camping grounds. Happy travels

Very nice park. Lots of trails and beautiful scenery. I'm not a horsey person but it seems to be a rider's paradise. Great staff as well.

Beautiful park with typical hill country scenery. This is a fairly primitive park with primitive facilities and popular with horseback riders. It has some nice day hikes with all-round views within a few miles. The trails are generally moderate. There will likely be no shade during your hike. The campgrounds only have porta potties.

Slide 1 of 3

Fantastic oasis of brew and distillates. Great staff, surroundings and of course a great locally crafted michelada mix. Give it a try and see for yourself.

Beer, gin, whisky, who’s complaining?!? If you have been here before 2021, the entrance (& grounds) have changed quite a bit. Look for the sign (see my pic) that is the entrance now. San Saba will not get you there now. Anyway, the place has enjoyed quite a big expansion, though we didn’t explore it, you can see in the photos. There is also outdoor seating, at the top by the main “brewery service area,” in a courtyard below, & in a beer garden. Cheers!

Went here a couple of times. Had a Gin & Tonic from thier own made Gin was very good. Had the Skullberry beer 6.2 % made with Strawberry IPA freaking delicious very light and smooth. The Squirt Gun Beer IPA of 6% one of the best beers had in awhile. Get a 12 Pack to go for the River. Have some fun here for sure, they do close early.

Blanco State Park

Lively destination for swimming, boating, hiking, camping & nature study on 106 acres.

Slide 1 of 3

Smallest state park I have been to so far, but one of the cleanest and it is a very well kept park. Beautiful water, no pollution...you can see the fish and snakes swimming below the surface in the Blanco river.

Visited October 22 - 24, 2021 A small park with the Blanco river flowing through the middle. Looks like a great spot to kayak or canoe. Unfortunately we were unable to bring our kayaks, so we are going to have to visit another time. Plenty of space at campsites. And bathrooms were clean without any smell.

We had a great time here. The only thing that is a little strange is its really close to town, but when you are in the state park it feels like you are far out of town! Lots of nice tent camping spots.

Bodies of Water

Slide 1 of 3

This place is the awesome, quite and beautiful! We went on the Labor Day weekend, and we have the whole place ourselves on Friday night! The water is clear and beautiful, we had such a great time there floating, finding rocks and discovered secret part of the river. Restroom and bath are very clean at the RV parking area, remember to bring some water with you if you camp in the tent area, but there is always water to wash dishes and WiFi at the RV camping area. We discovered some great wild animals there too. We saw deers at night right across our tent! And some turkey crew in the early morning. Some bat and a lot fish in the river which not scared of people at all, they will swim with you! My boyfriend even saw a small bobcat the other morning, but it run away so fast once it hear the noise lol. The owners are super nice and friendly, it is a family business. We arrived after sunset but the father and son Eric greeting us, show us around, help us setup and bring some firewood with their truck. This place seems pretty new, they said they will expand more. I suggest a small gift shop will be even better with some essentials like ice, sunblocks, small gifts, etc. So you don’t have to go the the little shop in town, but it’s only a five minuets drive from the campsite. We will definitely visit there regularly, and bring our friends and family as well!

Stayed a couple nights w my family at the tent campground & loved it! Serene environment w lots of turkey, ducks, deer, & birds. Relaxed, fished, & went swimming. Big thanks to Mr. Derek & family for their hospitality. If your looking for a peaceful get away, here's the spot. A little piece of primitive Texas heaven. Thanks, can't wait to go again!

Great monthly full-time rates, spacious and quiet. Caters to the the long term snow birds as well as weekend campers.

Wow the Christmas event! This is hands down the BEST Christmas event I’ve been to in the 6 years I’ve lived in the San Antonio area. My kids loved it so much and all the adults did too. Great value (free under age 5), so much to do, great space, we felt safe given Covid too as most was outdoor or open air!

Definitely a must for the annual Old West Christmas Light Fest!! Tons of family fun, from laser tag, live music, smores, and even bull riding!! great food options, and a handful of "saloons" for the adults 😅 Get those tickets and plan for a night of good ol'fashion Texas fun ❤️

Loved visiting! Definitely a family atmosphere with lots of fun activities for the whole family. They had a nice singer, cows, beautiful lights, and food and drinks.

Cave Without A Name

Nature preserve

Nature & Parks

Scenic cavern open since 1939 for tours of unusual geological formations & occasional live concerts.

Slide 1 of 3

Great outing! Easy access cave with many rooms , one more beautiful than the other. We highly recommend the guided your -ask for the tour with Catherine as your guide— she is a biology college student and loves the cave and what she does. She even took a black light flashlight to show the different colors under black light - is a great idea and a different take on caves. Not one of the massive caves, but absolutely worth it!

First time visiting and first time ever visiting a cave. It was such a wonderful experience! I forgot the guy’s name that was our tour guide but he was so nice and very informative. He mentioned he’s a senior in high school! Kudos to you for all that you shared with us! I brought a jacket because it was communicated it would be about 66 degrees down there and I get cold easily. But it really doesn’t feel like 66. It was quite humid. I say that say you probably don’t need a jacket. Def wear walking shoes and bring a water bottle if you tend to get thirsty easily. The duration of the tour was nice, walking and listening to the history of the cave and stopping for pictures! Highly recommend checking this place out!

Caroline was a fantastic guide and did a great job of explaining formations and the history behind this cave. Her black-light demonstration was especially fun. Cave Without A Name is a good choice for first time cavern visitors and those with younger children. There is an 8 story climb out of the cave but not much walking or navigating tricky terrain when in the cave.

Guadalupe River State Park

Park

Nature & Parks

State Parks

Natural area for canoeing, hiking, camping, fishing & horseback riding along 4 miles of river.

Slide 1 of 3

This campground is pretty awesome. Some sites are more secluded than others. There are a variety of trails, quite a few on the north side of the river. We discovered some hidden gem scenery areas on this trip. The park and river are pretty clean as well, which was something we found off putting at McKinney Falls. The day use area is also quite nice. While there was the occasional jet overflight, there was no external traffic noise, just the noise of cars entering the park. We went during the week, so there weren't a lot of people... Perfect for getting your Zen on.

Being from the Houston area, it's nice to see some elevation change that the Hill Country has to offer. The Guadalupe River State Park offers some excellent hiking trails, seating areas, barbecue pits, nice views, and surprisingly clean bathroom facilities. You can definitely tell that the park is well kept. My girlfriend and I enjoyed a walk along the bank of the river and took in how nice the water looked. At one point, the water was shallow enough for us to cross to take some photos upstream.

Great place to take the family for a day or weekend to go camping. Had a beautiful area with over 40 picnic tables and a grill for each table, super inviting looks super beautiful fishing everywhere the river was stocked last week with trout last week the lady said. No fishing pass needed. DONT BUY A FISHING PASS YOU DONT NEED ONE TO FISH. Definitely bringing my guests to Texas here. Mountain biking, kayaking, swimming. Great employees!

Review: "The waterfalls and cliffs surrounding the place add to the scenery.". There are no offers available. Near Six Flags Fiesta Texas:

Another theme park, and another fantastic time. I would say that this park had much more intense rides then some of the other parks I've been to, but honestly, for me, that made it a lot more fun! We happened to come here on senior trip day, which made for some long lines, but I feel that on a normal weekday it might not be quite as packed. Throughout the day rides came online while others went offline, however even with that we were able to still get to all the rides we wanted to ride! A few rides were closed in general because of the new ride they are putting in called Cliffhanger I belive. Due to the construction the rides closest to this one were taken offline for safety. It does appear however that that ride and the surrounding ones should open again by summer of 2022. All in all a good fun, family friendly park, with something for everyone.

Great amusement park to spend a nice day with family or friends. There are attractions for all ages and plenty of other activities to enjoy. You can also find many options for food. I would definitely recommend to purchase the flash pass it helps a lot if you want to enjoy all the rides. The parking lot is pretty big as well.

We're members and it's the only way to go - saves money, discounts on food and merchandise. Rides are good and staff is friendly, but the park cleanliness, food and overall upkeep is rough. Paid $20 for food that tasted like cafeteria leftovers, tables and chairs all dirty, trash all over the park. But, if you can look past that and just enjoy the rides (and set your concession expectations low) you'll have a fun time.

The Shops at La Cantera

Slide 1 of 4

A retreat as well known for its gorgeous architectural design as it is for its terrific collection of upscale brand shopping. Greenery, subtle water features and distinctive storefronts lend a garden-like feel; more than 150 shops and restaurants, a children’s play area and personal shoppers further paint La Cantera as a shopper’s oasis. Visit The Shops at La Cantera Online

The location is very nice and the mall is really well done. Large, clean, beautifully decorated outside with a lot of trees and places to sit and enjoy the area. Almost all brands exist there...and it's a friendly environment, even if it's sometimes a lot busy.

Beautiful outdoor shopping experience. Winding walkways with water intertwined. Pets are allowed with a Leash. Casual and very relaxing. You will find eating establishments of your choice! Enjoy...

This is one of the best malls San Antonio has to offer. Now I realize it's perhaps not a mall in the real sense but folk see it as La Cantera Mall. It's a wonderful mall to go a get some great walking exercise outdoors while you shop. It also has some decent night life appeal.

Very cool stop outside of San Antonio. Interesting to see & learn about the history of the house. Host there was very knowledgeable. Do drop some dollars in the box and take a visitor’s guide. Then continue on to the Castroville walking tour to see all the houses (you can drive around too if you prefer).

we made a short trip to this little town when we were staying in San Antonio during Thanksgiving break. This town is conveniently located near San Antonio. We went there but the visitor center was closed that day. However we were able to experience beautiful architecture that this building offered.

Beautiful gift from France. It is Castroville's Visitor Center. It is packed full of European furniture and decor. Two floors are open to the public. Woman inside was helpful and friendly. Ask where the locals eat, then go. Take the self guided walking tour. You will not be disappointed!

Aquatica San Antonio

Water & Amusement Parks

Water Parks

Marine life shows, thrill rides, aquariums & up-close encounters with dolphins, penguins & more.

Slide 1 of 6

Aquatica is a chain of water parks, operated by SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment and has branches in many places. The branch of Aquatica in San Antonio is a beautiful one, where South Texas meets up with South Seas to provide the visitors with a quintessential waterpark experience. There are also a handful of essential stores and gift shops, where people stop to take back memories of the waterpark.

Beat the heat next door to SeaWorld at Aquatica San Antonio, a family-friendly waterpark in the Texas Hill Country. The kids will have a blast at Aquatica’s thrill rides while you relax in the park’s sandy beaches. Make sure you don’t miss Aquatica’s main attraction Stingray Falls®, where you can ride a four-person raft down to an underwater cave to see the stingray.

Why you’ve got to go: This is the world’s largest marine life park and has some unique aspects to it which make it equally fun for children and adults. There are a variety of rides, a lot of shows and some exciting encounters with animals too. And when you need to take a beat, you can head to the cabanas.

Enjoyed a lot. Kids had fun and located in the same area Sea World is. It's to the left when u walk into the park and Sea World to the right. Very friendly and helpful employees. Will recommend.

I would recommend getting a locker. That way you can go and do whatever and not have to keep track of your stuff. There are a lot of long lines. I wish the lines moved faster but there was ALOT of people here. I didn’t take many pics of rides because I didn’t have a cover for my phone that was water proof. They sell anything you may need for the water park at the many stores. The lazy river and the stingray ride were my favorite. The wave pool was full of people but was still fun. There are a lot of kid friendly areas so that was good to see they had. Area and other kids and adults could go on bigger rides. I had fun. I haven’t been to a water park in years. The stingray area was my favorite thing. You can touch stingrays and feed them. Overall it was a fun experience.

Our toddler loves Aquatica. Definitely recommend the season pass, especially since it includes parking. Only thing that would make this 5 stars: better hours.

Great park on the west side of San Antonio. It's a bit oddly hidden behind a bunch of neighborhoods / a school / people's homes. The park is beautifuly maintained and the staff are beyond friendly and all seem willing to help with anything you need or ask about. I mainly came for the roller coasters but I found myself stopping and reading signs and checking out a few animal exhibits as they looked really neat. Definitely worth your time if You're in the San Antonio area.

The five stars go to the shows: the sea lions and the orcas were amazing. The park overall is definitely worth visiting, more than once too. The only suggestion to the future visitors is that the quick pass for the rides is a must, otherwise you will spend hours waiting in line.

Great park! 10 times better than Sea World Orlando. Rides were fun, fast, and short line when I went. It's located on top of a hill so you get nice view, long walks from ride to ride, and plenty of shades. Love that they have plenty of seats for you to sit and wait, or just enjoy the view. Family enjoyed it a lot.

In third place, we picked a viewpoint mostly for people who just want a clear view of San Antonio to take pictures of the city. The viewpoint (click here to see the exact location) is a bridge on Stadium Drive that crosses the McAllister Freeway, so it was obviously not designed to be a lookout point, but due to the highway, areas near the bridge offer a perfect view of San Antonio’s skyline for pictures, especially at sunset. It is located close to Alamo Stadium, so if you pass by to see a game, you might want to look around this spot to take a nice shot of the city.

When you enter the caverns, you will simply be amazed by looking at the majestic natural limestone formation which serves as a bridge and is 60 feet long. One word, amazing. The place is well kept with clean and maintained facilities above ground with plenty of staff to help guide and direct. The caverns themselves were amazing. The different formations, structures, colors were all awesome to see. The path and railings were sturdy with no issues or concerns along the way with lighting that really complemented the natural formations. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and he was easy to hear and understand. If you're interested in caverns or caves at all I highly recommend you check this out.

Amazing experience indeed this is one of the "world premier show caverns, and one of the most attraction in Texas". 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Good for families, has other activities for kids of all ages. Bought the discovery tour pass for around $30 online. Took around 1 hour. Tour starts on time. Need good walking shoes because there are natural water formations on the ground, can be slippery. Has good hand rails for steep areas. We had no problem walking the whole cave. but advisory for people who can not walk decline/incline hills and unable to handle humidity. Our tour Gal, she was very knowledgeable & funning. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Kudos to the whole team: the explorers & planners. The construction and layout for the cavern was very well thought out. Would love to do the hidden passage and adventure explorer next time. Yes!!! highly recommended.

A must see ⭐️ What a wonderful place. I have been living in Houston for 12 years and can you imagine I have never been here. I cannot believe how deep it was and what a great adventure it is. Loved it and loved it. Must book your tour. We did it on site. Last tour is like at 4:30 but call. The cave is hot so if beware. You can take lots of pictures. It is slippery so be careful. No heals. Wear comfortable clothes there is a lot of steps and walking you do. The tickets were like $30 per person

Only at the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, a 400-acre natural safari park on the outskirts of San Antonio not far from New Braunfels, Texas. You can see more than 500 animals from 40 species, some native, some exotic, and some endangered, from all corners of the world living happily in the vast green space, which is as close to their native habitat as the zoo can make it. Visitors can admire the animals while driving through verdant rolling hills, among enormous live oaks, and across the creek beds, watching them go about their lives without disturbing them.

Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch is a drive thru safari, home to 500 animals (no predators or elephants) of 40 different species, living within 400 acres of tree lined gently sloping hills. As you drive through the private property you can see the animals roam freely within its 3 generously sized pastures. Your kids will delight at the animals they see, from zebra and wildebeest to big birds like emu and ostrich and so many more, most of which will come right up to the car!

Located just outside of San Antonio, this wonderland of wild animals is a great way to spend your afternoon, especially if you have kids or just love animals. It's like having a mini Africa in the middle of Texas. How it works: You meander (safely in your vehicle) through 400 acres of magnificent live oak trees, rolling green hills and creek beds where 500 animals from 40 exotic, native and endangered species roam free.

Then you’ll love the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, which is home to more than 500 animals, with representatives from 40 different species. The Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch is a zoo where the animals roam freely and the humans are “caged up” in their cars. Each carload is given a bag of food to share with the creatures, which include ostriches, zebras and kudu.

Now you don’t have to travel all the way to Africa to experience the Safari – San Antonio has you covered. The Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch is actually referred to as an ‘African Safari, Texas-Style’. It is recognized by the state of Texas as a Land Heritage Property and is full of the refreshing natural landscape and fascinating selection of wildlife.

The ranch is located just a few minutes down the road from the Natural Bridge Caverns, so these attractions are great to combine. Rated as one of the top ten safari parks in the country, Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch employs only professionals in the animal field that specialize in conservation. The safari tour is truly an unforgettable experience.

26515 Natural Bridge Caverns RoadSan Antonio, TX 78266(830) 438-7400. In the 400-acre area near the Natural Bridge Caverns, over 500 animals from all over the world are free to roam and graze.

Great experience! It is a bit pricey (they do offer AAA discount) but it is a fun experience for everyone. I suggest you go through the route at least twice. On our first time through we didn’t see any zebras but on the second loop they were running by the road. Also on the second round one of the ostriches leaned his head into the car. On most of the path it’s wide enough to get around stopped cars if you feel the need to move on. There’s a snack area about 2/3 of the way through where you can park and grab a bite to eat. If I could make a suggestion to the owners, add an audio narration to each section to tell the guests about the types of animals. Animal food is $5/bag. Two bags was plenty for our two trips around.

To be honest at the price to enter the place I do not believe it was worth what they charge. For five of us it was $146. The drive took nearly 2 hours to drive around and there were hardly any animals. It is well taken care of and the property is clean. They charge more to feed the birds and other things while walking around to see the animals.I honestly enjoyed Wonder World Cave and Adventure Park better, the kids said the same as well. Feeding the animals there was more entertaining at the Wonder World Cave.

Usually when I visit attractions, I’m happy going just once but this place makes me want to come back again! The best part? Where do I even start! First, if you’re tired from walking or have someone who can’t walk much, this place is perfect. You drive up to buy tickets which are $24.99 per adult. On their website, they have a link that will direct you the San Antonio coupon book and you can get a discount but it didn’t work for us for the month of March. Honestly though, the price was just fine, even without the small discount. At the ticket booth you can also purchase bags of food for $4.50 and we are so happy we did because it made the experience even better. We fed so many kinds of animals and took lovely photos and videos. At the ticket booth, they will also give you a brochure that explains the animals and facts about them, making it very educational. After that, you will then drive through the whole park in your vehicle. It’s a nice way to pass the time because we were there for about 1.5 hours. We had all our windows rolled down and had a blast. We came on a Friday at around 11:30am and it was not very busy. There is one main road with white dividers on it that splits into 2 paths. If you want to go quicker, you can pass the other cars or you can take your time. They want you to keep your speed at 5mph and you can feed all the animals except the giraffe’s and caged animals at the end of the safari. About half way, you will also find a spot where you can park. This area has a snack booth, very clean restrooms, a cute sign you can snap a picture at and you can walk up to get a better look at the giraffes. Once the drive is done, at the very end, you’ll pull into a parking lot. This area has more restrooms, benches to sit on, a restaurant and cute gift shop. It also has a walking area where you can see enclosed animals. You can pay an extra $3 per person to walk inside the enclosed bird cage. We weren’t able to because due to staffing shortages, no one was there to supervise but we could still see the birds from the outside. The worst part? It might not seem like it but you are given a lot of food pellets. At the beginning, we didn’t want to “waste” them because we were worried we’d run out by the end. I can not tell you how many people had leftovers at the end. We were trying to gift bags to people going in because we had so much left!! So, either use it up as much as you can or even before you enter, I don’t know if you could turn into the lot (to the right of the ticket booth) but if you do, you could probably get peoples leftovers and avoid paying. Also, some animals bite! The ostriches were hard to feed because they kept biting our fingers and hands. A tip would be to put food on something or cover your hand with a sweater or blanket. That way they can’t get your fingers. The ranch also has a lot of signs everywhere so make sure you read them. They give you good safety reminders and will mention when some animals, like zebras, might bite. We also chose to take 2 cars because if we had packed into our van, then the people in the back wouldn’t have their own windows to feed the animals. You’ll be happy you came! It’s wonderful and family friendly. Everyone will have a good time.

First time here. Lines were kinda long for rides but moved steady. Drinks were good and cold. The lazy river with the tubes was awesome and only 3 ft deep however the waves are forceful to propel us forward but can take a small child fast from his family so be careful with small children. I'm planning another trip already because I want to definitely go back.

Still the hotest coolest time in Texas. Haven't been to the original in probably 10 years. So long that my son barely remembers and asked if we could visit. A lot has changed - digital codes to access the lockers instead of a key on a wristband, Google and Apple Pay instead of a wristband of plastic "splash cash" to buy food and drinks. Yet, much remains the same - free parking, the ability to bring in your own cooler of food and drinks, and more water rides and play areas than you can shake a stick at. I've read recent reviews complaining about rides and unfriendly staff this summer and lamenting the new ownership. This was not our experience. There were a few things that weren't operating, which was annoying in cases. However, our experience with the staff was as friendly as it has always been. It's still a great place to spend cooling off during the hot Summer days.

Loved this place. After hearing about the best barbecue being in Texas....I tried a few places that were no better than new York. This place was amazing though..... delicious mesquite flavored food.....great sides...super friendly staff. I loved your food and would recommend it to anyone.

Historic 1738 church once occupied by General Santa Ana & the site of hero Jim Bowie's wedding.

Slide 1 of 22

The official center of San Antonio, San Fernando Cathedral was established in 1731 by Canary Islanders, San Antonio’s first civilian colonists. Its current limestone Gothic edifice dates to 1868 and was designed by San Antonio architect and eventual mayor, François Giraud, and houses the remains of Alamo defenders James Bowie, David Crockett, and William Travis. The cathedral stands on what today is Main Plaza, which often hosts a selection of food trucks at lunchtime.

Besides being the oldest operating church in the U.S., San Fernando Cathedral in downtown San Antonio hosts the amazing light and sound show called the Saga. The Saga takes viewers on a visual journey through the history of San Antonio. Created by world-renowned French artist Xavier de Richemont, the Saga is projected on the façade of the Cathedral, so onlookers can sit in awe in front of the church and watch the display for free.

Construction on this San Antonio landmark began in 1738, and it took 15 years to complete. Today, the San Fernando Cathedral, which is also known as the Church of Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria y Guadalupe is one of the oldest cathedrals in the United States and is also the oldest standing church building remaining in Texas. It is the mother church of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, and was visited by Pope John Paul II in 1987.

The San Fernando Cathedral is a beautiful and historic church that is just a stone's throw away from the Riverwalk, so it is very easy to get to if you are already downtown. I recommend getting there in the evening so that you can catch it all lit up - it's breathtaking!. There are also these great little fountains in the front of it, so be sure and get those in the shot too!

This is by far the most beautiful church I have seen for many years. We have travelled since November 2021 from Canada. This church is on the route of the hop on hop off tour bus company in San Antonio. It is a bit of a walk from the bus stop; however, it is so worth the walk! There are amazing stained glass windows, a truly beautiful altar and there is so much to see, terrazzo marble floors, an amazing altar, a huge pipe organ, wonderful statues, spectacular ceilings, ornate columns. The cathedral still holds services, weddings, funerals. I was awed by the reverent silence and the magnificence of the building. The architecture is spectacular. Thank you for preserving this building so we may all enjoy it!

I visited San Antonio in 2018 while attending ASTRO conference and took many pictures during this time. I thoroughly enjoyed spending some time reflecting on things and life in the Cathedral. It's beautiful and many people gather in the square in front of the church for various communal activities. Enjoy the pictures!

Pretty neat to see in person as its as beautiful as it is in the pictures. Very historic and walking distance from the river walk. A must see if in town visiting. Visit at night to see the great light show!

Editor's Note: There's no photo available at the time of writing. Schlitterbahn isn’t the only way to enjoy the Comal River during hot Texas summers. Landa Falls offers the longest float down the Comal River (about 2.5 hours), and visitors can enjoy renting a tube and floating down the constant 72°F (22.2°C) water, stopping periodically to swing off of rope swings, jump off the sides of the riverbank, and have a fun day on the river.

The Comal River has always been one of the top New Braunfels attractions, fed by the springs out of the beautiful Edwards Aquifer. It is this river that was the greatest draw for tourists visiting the area for many, and it stretches past Landa Park, then Downtown New Braunfels, and then Schlitterbahn Waterpark. Eventually, it merges into the larger Guadalupe River.

Commune with nature and explore the great outdoors at Comal River during your travels in New Braunfels. Stroll along the riverfront or visit the shops in the area.

The comal river is named the shortest longest river on Google of you look it up.. There are 3-4 chutes on the river.. You are able to BBQ off the river at local condos.. And you're able bring your drinks onto the river and enjoy the scenery of deer and ducks. There are also different tubing companies in surrounding areas to help you choose what options are best for you. I live in Houston so this is the closet peaceful getaway ever. I'll see y'all again Summer 2019❤️😘

Hi there - This post will serve as informational. Yesterday April 30, we went tubing. Had such as blast.... but for the first time my tube flipped over on the first chute. I am a decent/okay swimmer (never really had any emergency situation to rate otherwise) and didn't wear a life jacket There is a whirlpool current that sucked me down while my tube flipped over my head. It was really hard to get out and it became very real to me that I could have drowned. I tried to fight the current (or tried to stand rather) and that part of the river is soooo deep you can't land unless the current pushes you towards the steps. Very dangerous. Please wear a life jacket...(especially for the kids) I will be next time and I'm 38 years old. Last time I went I had no issues and i had my little yorkie with me. He could have easily drowned. I was completely unsuspecting because we didn't flip over. Take my story yall and tell everybody...please wear a life jacket!

Enjoyed floating the river over the years!

It became the rallying cry for Texans who wanted to win independence from Mexico. It was also a reminder of what had occurred on March 1836. That is the date when thousands of Mexican forces under the leadership of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna stormed the Alamo, killing the 200 Texans who had been seized the mission and had defended their position for 13 days.

You can find Alamo in every 'instagrammable places in San Antonio' list on the internet.

What's known today as the Alamo is what's left of the San Antonio de Valero Spanish mission. It's best known as the site of the Battle of the Alamo, which took place during the Texas Revolution.

If you know anything about Texas history, you know The Battle of the Alamo was one of the most historic battles of the Texas revolution. The Alamo is over three centuries old and was one of five missionaries founded in the early seventeenth century. It is, without a doubt, San Antonio's most beloved landmark. Perhaps no other place defines the history of San Antonio, Texas, like the Alamo. The Mission San Antonio de Valero was founded in the mid-18th century to educate Native Americans who had converted to Christianity. After being abandoned by the church, the mission was used by the military as a garrison and became known as The Alamo.

Before heading to San Antonio and doing my own research on photography spots in San Antonio, The Alamo was probably the one place I already had on my list. What I failed to understand was how small it is and how crowded it gets. It is nearly impossible to get a decent picture with no-one in it in the middle of the day.

The Mission San Antonio de Valero, founded in 1718, was the first of the Spanish missions established along the San Antonio River. Later abandoned, it became a fortress and the site of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. Now commonly known as the Alamo, it’s much more than just a memorial to the soldiers who died there.

But what I found: the grounds and gardens surrounding The Alamo were absolutely beautiful. Wandering among all of the flowers and giant old shady trees and gorgeous stone architecture, I felt serene even despite the big crowds. Yes, the Alamo is crowded and lines can be long, but it’s definitely worth seeing!

Why you’ve got to go: If you like to see dressed-up characters talk about guns and life in the Alamo, this is the place to be. That’s an important chapter in the history of the great state of Texas. It was originally called the Misión San Antonio de Valero and it’s a Spanish mission with a fortress compound.

You cannot visit San Antonio with kids without touring the Alamo. We happened to stay at the Hotel Gibbs across the corner from Alamo Plaza, so getting there on foot was very convenient, to say the least. One of five missions established in the early 1700's, the Alamo is nearly 300 years old. It is perhaps the most cherished landmark in San Antonio. If you ask around, you will find that all children here and in surrounding towns take at least one field trip to the Alamo as part of their education.

You are not allowed to bring your dog inside the building or on the grounds, but you can stop to take a picture at the Spanish fortress.

As someone who didn’t grow up in Texas, I was shocked when I found out that we actually did not win at the Alamo!

Extraordinary and satisfying. The river walk is across the way from the Alamo and handicap access is there. Also tourist information and ticket purchase for Alamo. Last time I was here (57 years ago) my dad, a native of Texas drove all the way from Southern California to the Alamo to show us children the Alamo. Things have changed, the buildings have been restored and there's nice bathrooms. Worth the trip again!

I visited The Alamo on a Thursday morning and did not have to wait in line to go in the church which was nice. It's a very interesting tour and I definitely recommend seeing this piece of American history. Everything is well preserved and the grounds are very clean and well kept! Admission is free which is nice, especially these days. The gift store has lots of branded items to purchase but the prices are significantly higher than I expected. There are also actors portraying people from that time period which is a fun addition to the experience. Pro tips - across the street is a visitor center that has bathrooms when you need them and better prices on Texas memorabilia and you can't park on-site, so you'll have to walk a little to get to your destination. Lastly, the area around this historic site is very touristy and has lots to do but that also lends itself to panhandling. Please be aware.

Beautiful sunny days are definitely for coming here! It was very relaxing to take the different scenic walks, and there walks even a museum you could enter (for $5). The gift shop had something for everyone, and they even did displays of loading and shooting an old musket just at the entrance of the Alamo. I'd definitely come here again.

Tower of the Americas

Amusement park

Sights & Landmarks

750-ft. landmark with an observation deck, revolving eatery, stationary bar & a 4D adventure ride.

Slide 1 of 13

The Tower was constructed as a vertical exclamation point for San Antonio’s 1968 world’s fair, and was said to have been inspired by Seattle’s equally emphatic Space Needle. Topography apart (we don’t have Puget Sound and the Cascades, although we do have a river and wide-open spaces), the view from the top of SA’s 750ft-tall tower could hardly be more different from an urban standpoint; it reveals our city to have a relatively small inner core despite its No. 7 ranking in state population. And yet, vistas North toward the Hill Country are breathtaking, close-in perspectives of historic neighborhoods such as King William, La Villita, and Dignowity Hill are fascinating and revealing of the city’s growth, and sunset is just plain romantic.

Finally, the best viewpoint in San Antonio is the Tower of the Americas. The 750 foot-tall (229 meters) tower offers the best view of San Antonio, by far, as its viewpoint is up in the air, so the view is much clearer and there is no tree or building in the way. The tower has an observation deck, which is the best for people who want to take pictures of the city, but it also has a restaurant, where people can eat while enjoying the view.

The best view of downtown San Antonio is from the 750-foot Tower of the Americas. The tower was built in 1968 for the World’s Fair, known as Hemisfair, which celebrated the city’s 250th anniversary. The structure features both indoor and outdoor observation decks along with a 4D theater showing a feature titled “Skies over Texas.” Three elevators whisk 1,950 passengers an hour to the top in a lightning 43 seconds.

The observation deck is located at 579 feet above the ground, giving you the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the San Antonio city underneath you. At the bottom of the deck are historic photos of San Antonio strategically positioned to help you identify the icons in the city and compare changes that have occurred over the years; you will learn a lot about the history of San Antonio and Texas as a whole.

There are probably a lot of places from which to take a nice shot of the San Antonio skyline. I took this shot from atop a parking garage that I happened to park in while there on a photo excursion. That large tower in the distance off to the right side is the Tower of Americas, which has a revolving restaurant at the top - another fun experience to have in San Antonio!

What better way to be alone than to go where no one can reach you, literally. For locals, the Tower of the Americas is often reserved for tourists or for special nights, but it doesn’t have to be that way. A way to slash the price for a beautiful view of the city is to go up to the Chart House during Happy Hour.

The Tower of the Americas is a 750-foot tall tower built for the World’s Fair in 1968. Today the tower is an observation deck and the best place to get a glimpse of the entire city. The Tower of the Americas was once the tallest in the United States; until the Stratosphere was erected in Las Vegas in 1996.

There are all kinds of great skyscrapers in this country, but Tower of the Americas definitely deserves to be listed near the top of the list. This was introduced for the 1968 World’s Fair. Since then, Tower of the Americans has become one of the most fun places to get a great view in San Antonio.

Whenever we go to a city we love to get a view of the city from a nearby mountain or vantage paint. San Antonio doesn’t really have an mountains but it does have an observation tower. The Tower of the Americas is at Hemisfair Park is an impressive 750 feet tall.

Another great date is to go to the Tower of the Americas and see the sunset. At the Tower of the Americas, you can see the city from above. That's because this tower is 750 feet (or 229 meters) tall.

Absolutely beautiful! You have to pay to park but when you walk into the park, there are waterfalls everywhere. We arrived at night time. The trees were lit up with lights, and even though it was 30 degrees outside, the waterfalls were still flowing! There is an arcade area on the lower lever, a shopping center, and plenty of things to wonder around and see. The elevator to go up the tower is fast once you get in it, but the wait to get on the elevator takes a while. The Chart House restaurant is located at the top of the tower. Make a reservation!

We enjoyed the view and the historical pictures. The information about the history of Texas was great. The bar was too busy for our liking during pandemic but, l am sure there are slower times that could have been more comfortable. The gift shop was out of some t-shirt sizes and other souvenirs but the staff was helpful and did their best. The 4D movies were amazing and it was great they were included in our admission fee.

Tip for a free visit: just go to the bar and have a drink without paying the observation deck fee. Wish I knew this before paying $15.50 each. But it was still worth the price. It felt like you could see forever. Several of the reference photos could stand to be updated with more recently built buildings. Nice to be able to go out on the actual deck, but hold on to your hat! After seeing this landmark from all over the city, it was nice to get to see it and ride the external elevator!

Missions

Slide 1 of 15

San José offers visitors perhaps their best opportunity to see what a mission looked like back in the Spanish colonial period; almost all of its defensive walls are intact or restored. Popularly referred to as ‘the Queen of the Missions,’ San José’s imposing chapel building is the focal point of the surrounding neighborhood, and a rose window on its southwest side has become one of San Antonio’s most beloved (and imitated) architectural ornaments. This, the largest of the San Antonio missions, is a popular place for weddings, quinceañeras, and other celebrations.

This beautiful, historic Mission was founded in 1720, and named at the time for Saint Joseph and the Marqués de San Miguel de Aguayo, the governor of the Province of Coahuila and Texas. Sadly, the Mission experienced a long period of gradual decline after the 1833 Mexican secularization act. Many of the exquisite original structures have since been reconstructed and restored over the years, which you can learn all about in a short documentary before starting your walk through its peaceful grounds.

If you’re looking for a quintessential Texas location with beautiful backgrounds, graceful arches, and a rich history, then the San Jose mission is for you!. The neutral colored walls of the mission make you and your fiance POP as the focus of the photo. If you choose this as your engagement session location, make sure to wear those light, calm colors that will complement that background sooooo well (I talk about that in the Engagement Style Guide I send you!).

Mission San José is a historic Catholic mission founded in 1720 because Mission San Antonio de Valero, today called The Alamo, had become overcrowded. Permission was granted to build a new mission 5 miles (8 km) south of San Antonio de Valero to serve the Coahuiltecan Indians. The first buildings, made of brush, straw, and mud, were quickly replaced by large stone structures, including guest rooms, offices, a dining room, and a pantry.

Founded in 1720, Mission San Jose is the largest of the missions that make up the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. This mission, which is sometimes referred to as the Queen of the Missions, is located on the bank of the San Antonio river. During its heyday, San Jose Mission housed approximately 350 Indian neophytes.

People who visit all of San Antonio’s missions tend to walk away with a favorite, and Mission San José is mine: it is absolutely beautiful. The mission dates to 1720 and was heavily restored in the 1930s, allowing visitors to experience not just the church but to get a sense of the scale of the mission beyond its centerpiece.

One of the oldest historic churches in San Antonio, San Jose, is the best opportunity for the visitors to see what a mission looked like in the past Spanish Colonial period. Almost all the defensive walls are now restored and intact. The site is also popularly referred to as the Queen of the Missions.

I think of Mission San Jose as "the big Mission" as it is pretty large and seems to be the most popular. It has a wonderful entryway that is just amazingly beautiful. This is also known as "the Queen of the Missions" since it was largest and strategically important to the missionaries at the time.

Know as the Queen of the missions, mission San Jose is the largest of the missions. “Its imposing complex of stone walls, bastions, granary, and magnificent church was completed by 1782”. Mission San Jose is also now the park headquarters and they offer ranger led tour of the entire property.

The Alamo is only one of five missions on the San Antonio River. Mission San Jose in San Antonio is one of the most beautiful ones and definitely worth a visit with the kids. The Queen of the Missions was restored in the 1930s and is the largest of the San Antonio Missions.

Unfortunately when we visited Mission San Jose it was closed. For some of the other missions, that wasn’t a problem since they are the kind you can simply walk up to. Not this one- it is completely walled off!

Excellent experience. Love history and places to visit. Free to visit all three Missions, few minutes apart. Incredible to see the conservation of church and fort. Nice to walk and enjoy history. All employees we're so nice and helpful. Love Texas and all residents. So happy to visit new places...a lot of pictures good memories and very nice people. Love Texas!

One of the prettiest missions we have been to. Kids loved doing the ranger badge activity. The grounds are well kept and structures are beautiful to look out. Definitely glad we came here. Want to come back when kids are older and do the trail bike rides.

Visiting this church was very informative and educational. So much history that has occurred on the very land we get to roam free on. This church is in Pristine condition. It is still as it was before. They still hold mass on Sunday. How amazing is that?! The park rangers were wonderful and so patient with the children. The kids are able to become an “honorary park ranger “ if they complete an activity book learning about the church. I am excited to visit the rest of the missions located along the river.

Choke Canyon State Park

Big lake offering year-round boating, beach & water sports, plus areas for camping & hiking.

Slide 1 of 3

First time at choke canyon State Park.I love it. If you love being close to nature this is the place. Men.....this lake is full of catfish. I love bird watching Choke canyon has many different species. I love how the camps have room to spread out. We play horseshoes...kids love it especially when there are cool prizes. This state park will be one of our go to from now on.

We've never seen such abundant wildlife in one park. The sites were nice, bike riding, kayaking, bird blind, nature trails and wonderful staff. Our only sadness was the sand spurs - we've never had them this bad. Our dog had to wear boots just to step outside and I'm still picking them out of everything 2 weeks later.

The map for tent sites looks nothing like the actual site and for sure is not the pictures on the official site. The tents don't get that close to the water and where you should only have 2 tents per site (12 max for the site) there where 18 tents before we even thought about adding our own. After a walk to where you can swim it is over grown with cattails and other vegetation. You can't get in, let alone swim. Not to mention just on the other side of where you swim is the fish cleaning station and yes there are alligators. The bathrooms where infested with hornets. It was horrible! When asking for a refund (even though signs are posted with recent dates stating that you just need your recite) the staff acted like they had no clue how to refund our ticket. Until we started taking pictures of their posted signs with recent dates! Just avoid this headache.

I LOVE this state park. Fishing, swimming, kayaking/paddle boarding, boating, camping, boating etc. are all great here! but the GEM of this park is the AMAZING STAFFFFFF. We camp here a LOT as travelers and the staff pointedly remembered my name, my kids (junior Rangers now) and what our favorite campsites are. Dawn is the only gal I know by name but every single staffer I’ve met at Lake Corpus is helpful, patient, fun and gives you that good ole’ southern kindness. Thank you, Lake Corpus SP Staff for being you! Felt the need to give y’all a shout out.

This lake and camp ground is beautiful. The camp sits are large and the water is lovely. They have water hook up and the bathrooms are very clean. Their are alot of ants on some of the sits and the hiking trails are short.

Peaceful! Lovely sight seeing families fishing, swimming, hiking and enjoying the beautiful outdoors! We will definitely need to return for a longer stay!
