1. Have been a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) for at least two years and are aged 21 and above (you can apply together with your spouse and any unmarried children aged below 21 born to you within the context of a legal marriage or legally adopted by you).

You will need to log in to MyICA using your Singpass and apply for you and your family.

2. Have been a PR for at least two years and have been married to a Singapore citizen for at least two years.

Your spouse will need to log in to MyICA using their Singpass to sponsor your application.

3. Are an unmarried child aged below 21 born within the context of a legal marriage to, or have been legally adopted by, a Singapore citizen.

Your Singapore citizen parent will need to log in to MyICA using their Singpass to sponsor your application.

4. Are a PR studying in Singapore; and have been residing/living in Singapore for more than 3 years (of which, at least one year as a PR); and have passed at least one national exam (i.e. PSLE, GCE ‘N’/‘O’/‘A’ levels), or are in the Integrated Programme (IP).

If you are aged 15 years old and above, please apply for a Singpass and log in via MyICA to apply. If you are below 15 years old, any Singapore citizen can sponsor your application via their MyICA account.

5. Are a PR and an Aged Parent of a Singapore citizen.

Your Singapore citizen child will need to log in to MyICA using their Singpass to sponsor your application.

National Service Obligation


Under the Enlistment Act, all male Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents, unless exempted1, are required to serve National Service (NS). Following the completion of full-time NS, they will become Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen). An NSman’s obligation will end at the age of 50 years (for Officers) or 40 years (for other ranks).  

NS-liable persons are required to register for NS upon reaching 16 1/2 years old and will be scheduled for enlistment at the earliest opportunity upon reaching 18 years old. MINDEF allows students to attain educational qualifications up to the ‘A’ Levels certificate, the polytechnic diploma or an equivalent before they are required to serve NS. They are enlisted at the earliest opportunity when they have finished such courses, or after turning 18 years old, whichever is later. MINDEF does not grant deferment for university studies, regardless of whether such studies have begun. All male applicants are required to access www.cmpb.gov.sg for information on NS deferment, pre-enlistment process and Exit Permit requirements, before proceeding with the application.

All processing fees will be collected online when you apply. Successful applicants will pay the additional fees at the time of Registration. Online fees are payable using:

  • Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card or,
  • American Express (AMEX) credit card or,
  • Internet Direct Debit (DBS/POSB, OCBC, UOB and Standard Chartered Bank Internet Banking accounts in Singapore) or,
  • PayNow.

Documents Required

How many years after green card for citizenship

When uploading documents, you will need to provide certified true copies of the original documents and official translations (for documents in languages other than English).

ICA accepts:

  • Translations provided by the embassy of the country that issued the document;
  • Translations provided by a notary public in Singapore or the country that issued the document;
  • Privately translated documents attested by the embassy of the country that issued the document, or notarised by a notary public in Singapore or the country that issued the document.

ICA does not endorse any private translation companies or entities. Insufficient documentation may result in non-acceptance of your application. You may be required to provide additional documents to support your application

Procedure


All Singapore Citizenship applications must be submitted online using the e-Service. Please prepare the required documents provided in the document checklists for submission online via the e-Service.

You will require a Singpass account to submit an application. If you are applying under the sponsorship of your spouse/Singapore citizen parent, your sponsor would need to log in via his/her Singpass account.

Processing Time


Singapore Citizenship applications usually take 12 months to process. For children born overseas to Singapore citizens, the general processing time is within two months from receipt of complete documents. We will process your application upon receiving all required documents. We strive to meet the following processing time but seek your understanding that some applications may take longer to process. 

To check the application status or view application status updates, the main applicant/sponsor can log in to MyICA. For any clarifications or status updates, ICA will send an email to the main applicant/sponsor. Please provide a valid email address at the time of application.


Approval


Successful applicants will receive an Approval in Principle letter to complete the Singapore Citizenship Journey (SCJ)*. On completion of the SCJ, applicants will receive the final approval letter indicating the appointment date and time to register for Singapore Citizenship.

*The Singapore Citizenship Journey is a mandatory programme for Singapore Citizenship applicants, aged 16 to 60 years old, who have been granted in-principle approval for Singapore Citizenship.

How long does it take to convert green card to citizenship?

To become a U.S. citizen, you must: Have had a Permanent Resident (Green) Card for at least five years, or for at least three years if you're filing as the spouse of a U.S. citizen.

Can a green card holder apply for citizenship before 5 years?

You may file Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, 90 calendar days before you complete your continuous residence requirement if your eligibility for naturalization is based upon being a: Permanent resident for at least 5 years; or. Permanent resident for at least 3 years if you are married to a US citizen.

Do I have to wait 3 years to apply for citizenship?

Determine your eligibility to become a U.S. citizen. In general, you may qualify for naturalization if you are at least 18 years old and have been a permanent resident for at least 5 years (or 3 years if you are married to a U.S. citizen) and meet all other eligibility requirements.

How hard is it to get U.S. citizenship after green card?

How Long Does It Take? If you are a green card holder, you can apply for U.S. citizenship five years after getting your green card. You also must have been physically present in the United States for at two-and-a-half years of those five years. There is only one exception.
