How does cryotherapy work? . . .

The Whole-body Cryosauna uses cold air to chill the body during a two-three minute session. The exposed skin reacts to the extreme temperatures by vasoconstriction. This pushes some of the blood from the surface areas and skeletal muscles towards the body’s warm core. Once the cryotherapy session is over the skin returns to normal temperature as the warmer blood circulates throughout the entire body

Are there negative effects to cryotherapy? . . .

In persons who have conditions like hypothyroidism, tuberculosis, respiratory diseases, heart conditions, nervous system diseases and blood diseases, amongst others, there is a greater risk of cryotherapy side effects and some of them can be severe or dangerous. Additionally, there is a greater risk of cryotherapy side effects in persons who are over the age of sixty five, those with substance abuse problems, persons with emotional disorders and those who have known problems with cold tolerance. These are examples of why screening before treatment is so critically important.

Is it safe to get that cold? . . .

Yes it is safe. During the 3 minute session your skin temperature will drop but your core temperature will remain at 98.6°F, its natural state.

Do I have to do anything specifically after my session? . . .

No, you do not have to do anything specifically after your session, but hydrating is always a good idea.

Is there anything I should avoid after my session? . . .

There is nothing you need to avoid after a cryochamber session.

How often can I have a cryotherapy session? . . .

Cryotherapy sessions can be implemented safely as often as twice daily. For general use 2-3 sessions per week is the norm. High level athletes have cryotherapy sessions up to 5 times a week.

How soon can I expect results from a cryotherapy treatment? . . .

After completing your first treatment your body will release endorphins, which are hormones that make you feel good and energetic. This feeling will likely last for several hours. Depending on your physical condition, you may feel immediate relaxation, and improved energy that may last for several hours or even days.

Is one cryochamber treatment enough? . . .

While every therapy session is beneficial and you’ll feel immediate results, research has shown that you will experience improved and cumulative benefits after a minimum of 10 sessions, within a two or three week period. (To achieve peak performance, professional athletes might benefit from having up to two sessions a day). After that you can take fewer treatments spaced further apart to maintain and improve on your results.

Is cryotherapy dangerous? . . .

No, the liquid nitrogen that is used as a chilling agent does not come into contact with your skin, and it is the same nitrogen that makes up the air we breathe (actually 78% of it). In the chamber a person breathes room-air. For added safety, chambers are equipped with an oxygen monitor. A trained operator is always present during the treatment to control the temperature levels and monitor your comfort.

Is there anyone who shouldn't use a cryochamber? . . .

Anyone who is pregnant, has severe unmanaged hypertension (BP> 180/100), has a cardiac pacemaker, is being treated for cancer, has deep vein thrombosis, acute or recent myocardial infarction, uncontrolled seizures, fever, unstable angina pectoris, Raynaud’s syndrome, cold allergy, acute kidney and urinary tract diseases, open wounds or ulcers, or is under influence of drugs or alcohol is advised not to use Cryotherapy. Each XR Cryosauna contains a complete list of health contraindications that must be reviewed and acknowledged by each client before every cryotherapy session.

Can I catch a cold from whole-body cryotherapy? . . .

No, you can’t. Colds are caused by viruses.

How long will my first cryotherapy session take?

Your first visit to Glacial Peak will take between 15-20 minutes. Once you are checked in, we like to fully educate our clients and help with any questions they may have before they step into the cryosauna. After your initial session, most visits take less than 10 minutes.

Do I need to do anything before my cryotherapy session?

No special preparation is needed prior to arriving at the Glacial Peak. However, we do ask that you do not apply any lotion or moisturizer to your skin an hour before your session. If you are coming from a workout or game and are covered in perspiration, we will provide you with a towel.

What do I wear in the cryosauna?

We provide your whole body cryotherapy attire! To allow for 90% of your skins to be exposed to the hyper cool air, you will wear a robe, socks, slippers, and gloves. Men also wear briefs or boxers. Jewelry and metals may not be worn below the neck.

During a whole body cryotherapy session, the temperature may reach as low as -240 F. The controlled environment inside the cryosauna is very cold, but it is definitely bearable.

How often should I use cryotherapy?

You jump into the cryosauna for a session as often as once a day! However, the frequency of your sessions is very dependent on what you are using cryotherapy for. Most clients that use cryotherapy mainly for overall health and wellness, often get in the cryosauna one to two times per week. Clients who have an injury, excess inflammation, or want to reduce muscle soreness usually come to Glacial Peak at least two to three times per week.

Who should not use Whole Body Cryotherapy?

Those who are pregnant, have severe uncontrolled hypertension, acute or recent myocardial infarction, unstable angina pectoris, arrhythmia, symptomatic cardiovascular disease, cardiac pacemaker, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, venous thrombosis, acute or recent cerebrovascular accident, uncontrolled seizures, severe Raynaud’s Syndrome, fever, tumor disease, symptomatic lung disorders, bleeding disorders, severe anemia, infection, claustrophobia, cold allergy, and acute kidney or urinary tract diseases. Should I use Whole Body or Local Cryotherapy?

All bodies are different, and there isn’t a one size fits all answer to this question.The type of cryotherapy you should use is based on what you are hoping to achieve. Local cryotherapy is ideal for providing efficient treatment to a specific area, while whole body cryotherapy is beneficial for the entire body. To achieve maximum benefits, some clients utilize both services on the same day. Please feel free to ask a staff member at Glacial Peak to explain the personalized benefits of each option for you if you’re unsure of which service to utilize!

Clients may come to Glacial Peak for a local treatment multiple times per week to just once depending on their ailment or injury severity.

How long will my first NormaTec session take?

Once you are checked in, we like to fully educate our clients and help with any questions they may have before they begin the compression therapy. After your Normatec session begins, it will take 30 minutes to finish the cycle.

Am I able to use more than one attachment at the same time?

During a NormaTec session, you are able to do the leg and arm attachments at the same time and the hip and arm attachments at the same time. Each attachment area is considered a separate service.

Is NormaTec cold?

There is not a temperature change during a compression therapy session. NormaTec uses compressed, room temperature air, generated from it’s own system.

Who should not use NormaTec Compression Therapy?

Those who have pulmonary edema, severe atherosclerosis or other ischemic vascular diseases, extreme deformity of the limbs, acute thrombophlebitis, congestive cardiac failure, deep vein thrombosis, lesions or tumors in the vicinity of application, limb infections that have not received antibiotic coverage, lymphangiosarcoma, or untreated wounds. Also, NormaTec should never be used on the area of a broken bone or fracture that has not fully healed.

CryoFacial

Do I need to do anything to prepare for my CryoFacial?

No special preparation is needed prior to arriving at the Glacial Peak. However, we do ask that you do not apply any lotion or moisturizer to your skin an hour before your session or have wet hair. Makeup does not need be removed before a cryofacial. However, if you prefer a fresh face for your session, makeup removing wipes are available.

How long does a CryoFacial last?

Once you have been checked in, a cryofacial takes about 10 minutes. There little to no downtime after your cryofacial. You will be refreshed and ready to return to your day! Some clients may experience a slight rosiness immediately after their cryofacial, but this will diminish within 15 minutes.

Who should not have a CryoFacial?

Besides those who are pregnant, there are no contraindications for CryoFacial sessions.

Cryo T-Shock

How long does a Cryo T-Shock session last?

Once you are checked in, we like to fully educate our clients and help with any questions they may have before they begin their session. Once your session begins, depending on your area and type of treatment, it will last between 30-60 minutes.

What should I do to enhance my session?

Pagani, who manufacturers the Cryo T-Shock device, strongly recommends vigorous exercising for 30 to 60 minutes following each treatment to aid the body’s metabolic elimination processes. Exercise will keep it elevated and continue to deliver additional oxygen and nutrients to boost skin elasticity. If you are unable to get in a workout, a 30 minute NormaTec session is include with each treatment. It is also beneficial to combine whole body cryotherapy with Cryo T-Shock sessions.

How many sessions do I need for results?

All bodies are different, and there isn’t a one size fits all answer to this question. The number of session is based on what you are hoping to achieve and which area of the body you are treating. A member of our Glacial Peak staff can provide you with an estimated number of sessions for your personal needs after speaking with you and viewing the treatment area.

Is Cryo T-Shock painful?

Session are not painful, and some clients even describe it as rather pleasant. The cryotherapy portion of the treatment is very bearable, and the massage techniques of the device throughout and the thermography provide a sense of relaxation. The sessions have been compared to a hot stone massage.

How often can I do a Cryo T-Shock session?

Depending on the location and type of treatment, we like to let your bloodstream and lymphatic system dispose of your cells naturally to optimize your results. However, most areas are able to receive treatments up to twice a week. It is also recommend to focus on one body part per session to allow for proper drainage and avoid overwhelming the body’s lymphatic system.

How long do the results from a Cryo T-Shock lesson last?

Every single body is different, depending on the individual and their diet, lifestyle, and even genetics, results may last several months to several years. For those who receive treatments to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, cryofacials are recommended for maintenance.

Who should not use Cryo T-Shock?

Those who are pregnant, have kidney disease, severe diabetes, or are undergoing dialysis or chemotherapy. No Botox within two weeks and no fillers within four weeks.

How long should you wait between cryotherapy?

It's recommended that you have up to three minutes of cryotherapy one to five times a week, depending on the results you're after and how new you are to the therapy. Athletes are using cryotherapy to aid recovery and improve their athletic performance during the game.

Can you do cryotherapy too much?

Risks of Whole-Body Cryotherapy Exposure to extreme cold can cause injuries. There have been reports of people getting frostbite or cold-induced rashes after whole-body cryotherapy. The extreme cold may also aggravate your other health conditions, including: High blood pressure.

How often can you repeat cryotherapy?

Most of the entities can be treated with a single round of cryosurgery, but for larger or thicker lesions treatments can be repeated at 3 to 4-week intervals until the lesions have resolved. This is especially true in verruca which typically take anywhere from 2 to 6 treatments to resolve.

Can I do cryotherapy every day?

Whole body cryotherapy can be safely done up to two times per day. With that said, here are some recommendations. For general wellness, 3-5 treatment sessions per week for the first month. For optimum health and wellness, 5 sessions per week for at least two weeks.
