I'm asking the question because i bought the car at 10 000 km and i did the first oil change at the dealer at 12500 km and put repsoil synthetic oil and the dealer recommand to change the oil every 6 000 km even if i out synthetic oil. I'm now at 18 800 km and the car is due for the oil change. Next week i'm giong on vacation and will do around 1500-2000 km during the trip. I am use to put sythetic oil in all of my cars and replace the oil at every 8 or 10 k. I own a 08 Mazda 5 and mazda recommand to replace the oil at every 8 000 km and i do it at every 10 000km. So, the oil level is good and the oil is clean, i think i will do the oil changes at every 8 000 km instead of 6 000 since i'm putting synthetic oil and i will put castrol synthec from cosco like i do with my mazda 5. It cost 42.00$ instead of 80 $ at the stealer. What do you think, am i wrong to do the oil change at 8000km instead of 6000km? 08-12-2009, 10:04 AMJoin Date: Jul 2008 Location: Posts: 575 I live in the desert southwest of the US where summers are very hot so I follow Mitsubishi's severe maintenance schedule and change the oil and filter at least every 3750 miles which works out to every 6000km for those of you on the metric system. The "normal" maintenance schedule for US vehicles recommends changing oil every 7500 miles or 12,000km. How often you should change your oil would depend upon climate conditions where you live, and driving patterns. For example a lot of stop and go city driving, vs a lot of highway miles. The important thing is to follow Mitsubishi's (not the dealers) recommendation to keep your warranty in effect. If you are uncertain, perhaps you should call Mitsubishi to see what they recommend. 08-12-2009, 03:39 PMJoin Date: Sep 2007 Location: Colorado Posts: 609 I agree with azjake. I live in a climate that changes quickly. Goes from hot to cold in a hurry. And weather, particulary temperature, can break down your oil just as much as use does. I go by Mitsu's "severe maintenance" schedule of 3,750 miles. I've done it as early as 3,000 and as late as 5,000. Colorado can change from 70 deg to 30 deg over night, or from 50 at night to 100 deg during the day. Plus the summer is very dry (usually) so lots of dust, with no humidity. 08-12-2009, 09:22 PMJoin Date: Apr 2009 Posts: 46 i live in Quebec, so the engines are nder severe conditions but at both extreme. can be over 30 c in the summer and minus 40 in the winter. i don't want to save money but if the oil is still good after the recommended 6000km(with mineral oil), why not wait another 2000km? 08-12-2009, 09:36 PMJoin Date: Jul 2008 Location: Posts: 575 Like Colorado, Phoenix is very dry and dusty especially in the summer, so along with the oil changes you need to keep a close eye on the air filter and change it at a minimum every year or 12,000 miles. 08-12-2009, 09:57 PMJoin Date: Aug 2007 Location: Mxico Posts: 947 Here in Mxico, 12,000 km or 1 year, what it happens first. 08-13-2009, 11:34 AMJoin Date: Sep 2007 Location: Colorado Posts: 609 Quote: Originally Posted by jsrd Here in Mxico, 12,000 km or 1 year, what it happens first. For oil change???? wow, thats too long. 08-13-2009, 11:43 AMJoin Date: Oct 2007 Posts: 645 As long your Oil is not very BLACK you can get another a thousand mile before an oil change as long it is not DARK. if it's dark have an oil change. I just had an oil change on my 2008 Lancer with 54,500 miles. The dealer wrote on the sticker on the windshield 52,700 I changed my oil at 54,000. Anyway it's a Japanese car it will still run as long it as oil in it. If you want to spend money and changed oil every 3,000 miles it is up to you it is your money. In case that I it will find the oil dirty, immediately it would change it, but stays it in good conditions by that time interval 08-13-2009, 11:19 PMJoin Date: Feb 2009 Location: St Louis, MO Posts: 1,648 guys...please go to this forum...all they talk about are oils: I use a 5w-20 synthetic blend and change every 5k miles. I live in upper Missouri in the United States. I run similar oil in my Ford Ranger and at the same change intervals...I'll be sending in for a used oil analysis at 5k miles. If you

Change engine oil. Replace engine oil filter.
Should I change oil every 6 or 12 months?Exposing the oil to moisture degrades the oil as much as running the engine hard for 5,000 miles. The solution is to flush all that stuff out with fresh oil every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Thankfully, you don't need to remember.
How often should you really change your oil?It used to be normal to change the oil every 3,000 miles, but with modern lubricants most engines today have recommended oil change intervals of 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Moreover, if your car's engine requires full-synthetic motor oil, it might go as far as 15,000 miles between services!
