Smartwatch

A smartwatch is a wearable computer in the shape of a watch; current smartwatches include a local touchscreen interface for daily usage, while an attached smartphone app provides administration and telemetry (such as long-term biomonitoring). While early versions could do simple computations, digital time telling, translations, and gameplay, smartwatches in the 2010s feature more general capabilities similar to smartphones, such as mobile apps, a mobile operating system, and WiFi/Bluetooth connection. Some smartwatches operate as portable media players, featuring FM radio and Bluetooth headsets playing digital audio and video files. Some variants, known as watch phones (or vice versa), contain mobile cellular capability, such as making calls.
