If you are rejected, you can re-file your return at no extra cost once you retrieve your IP PIN. How to Apply for an Identity Protection PINWhen you prepare and eFile your 2021 Taxes on eFile.com, you will be asked to enter your IP-PIN during checkout. That number will then be used to verify your identity with the IRS. If the IP-PIN you entered does not match the one on record, the return will be rejected. You may receive this notice if you use IRS online tools with your own information. How do I find my 5 digit self select PIN?If you don't remember your 5 digit PINa, you do have another option moving forward. The Self-Select PIN is a random 5-digit number that you enter as your electronic signature when e-filing your return. You can reuse your Self-Select PIN from last year or enter your AGI from last year's tax return.
