How to remove a movie from continue watching on netflix

While the 'Continue Watching' list is great when you're binging a series or rationing episodes over a period of time, it can become a hindrance when you've given up half-way through a title.

If you don't want to be constantly reminded of your failed attempt to get through Zac Efron's Down to Earth, or you need to hide the fact that you watched an extra episode of Unsolved Mysteries without your partner, we have the solution for you.

Netflix has come to the rescue on Twitter by providing a quick and easy way of removing titles from the 'Continue Watching' row via your mobile and for alternative ways to axe shows from your list on your desktop, we've compiled a step-by-step guide for you to do exactly that.

Here are several ways you can delete shows from your 'Continue Watching' bar on your mobile or desktop – remember to log in to your account on a desktop/website browser or the mobile app!

Note: You can only do this on desktop or mobile app, it doesn't work on a Smart TV or streaming device. It also doesn't work on a kids' profile.

For mobile

Netflix has recently published a super simple guide on Twitter for viewers who want to clean up their 'Continue Watching' bar.

1. Make sure you're on the right profile

If you share your Netflix account with family and/or friends, you don't want to accidentally delete their progress with a show by being on the wrong profile, so make sure you've selected your own profile by choosing from the More menu

2. Click on the three dots below a title

3. Select 'Remove from Row'

Alternative method for mobile

If for some reason the simple method doesn't work for you, there is another way to remove titles from the 'Continue Watching' row.

1. Make sure you're on the right profile

If you're not in your own profile then switch using the More menu.

Scroll down and you'll see Viewing Activity - click it.

Netflix saves where you are in a show or movie, so if you ever stop and come back, you can pick up where you left off. It's a great feature, but it's also a curse. Sometimes you need to know how to remove "continue watching" items from Netflix.

You can only do this on your computer or mobile device (not smart TVs or streaming devices), and it won't work for kids profiles. It might take up to 24 hours for the titles you hide from your Netflix account to actually disappear from the "continue watching" section.

How to Remove Something From 'Continue Watching' on Netflix

With one exception for Android users, whether you're using the mobile app or the desktop version of Netflix, you'll need to log in to your account, pick the profile you want to delete "continue watching" items from, and then open the Viewing activity page.

These instructions apply to iPhone and Android devices made by a variety of manufacturers, such as Samsung, Google, Huawei, Xiaomi, etc.

How to Remove Titles on Android Devices

This method is for Android users who want to delete a title from the list of recently watched movies and shows. It should work for anyone using the most up-to-date version of the app. If this doesn't work, skip down to the other set of directions below.

  1. With the app open to the Home tab, scroll down until you see the Continue Watching heading.

  2. Tap the three-dotted button next to the title you want to erase.

  3. Select Remove From Row, and then confirm with OK, to delete it from the list.

How to Hide Titles on iOS Devices

Follow these steps if the directions above don't apply to your device (e.g., you're on iOS or you're using an outdated version of the app):

  1. Tap the profile you wish to edit the items from. If you're in the wrong profile, tap a different one from the More menu.

  2. Open the More menu and tap Account to open your Netflix account settings in your web browser. If you're not given that option, go to Netflix's Your Account page manually.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page, select your profile to expand the menu, and then choose Viewing activity.

  4. Tap the circle with a line through it, located next to every movie/show you've watched, to mark those items as hidden.

If you hide an episode of a TV show, you'll also see a link you can tap to hide the whole series. To hide all the items listed, including movies and TV shows, scroll to the very bottom and tap Hide all.

How to Hide Titles Using a Desktop Browser

To jump right into Step 3 below, head to your Netflix viewing page; otherwise follow these steps in order:

  1. Hover your mouse over the down arrow next to your profile pic at the top right of the screen, and choose Account.

  2. Scroll to the bottom, expand the profile you want to edit, and choose Viewing activity.

  3. The steps to hide your Netflix watch history are the same as with the mobile version: find the movie or show you want to delete from your watchlist and select the circle with the line through it.

  4. If you chose to remove an episode of a TV show, you'll see this screen next. To remove the entire series, select Hide series.

You can also scroll to the bottom of your Netflix history and select Hide all.

Now, as you browse through Netflix, the deleted items will no longer appear in your “continue watching” queue. However, Netflix will still use this information in its recommendation algorithms, so you might still receive recommendations based on the show/movie you removed from the list.

How to Change Netflix Profiles

Another way to deal with the "continue watching" list on Netflix is to keep your viewing habits separated within different profiles. If you want to rewatch a series, for example, or your roommate wants to watch a movie you've already seen, you can build a separate profile to make a fresh "continue watching" list.

You can have up to five profiles on a single account. Learn how to create a new Netflix profile if you need help.

How to Delete a Netflix Profile

If you want to completely remove a profile from your account to make room for another or to instantly clear the watch history, you can delete a Netflix profile.
