To block or not to block, the is the question – I mean if you’re even pondering that you need to block the person.

Being able to block people on social media is one of the best tools people have at their disposal on the sites and it is an individual’s right to block someone or not.

It is not up to the person being blocked and if someone blocks you, you need to respect their reasons for doing so.

There may be cases where someone blocks your for apparently no reason and you feel as though something is up when they suddenly disappear from your social media site.

So here is how to tell whether or not someone has blocked you.

When someone blocks you on Facebook they effectively become invisible to you on the site or app – they disappear online.

You will not be able to view their profile, send a friend request, send a message, comment or see what they have commented anywhere on Facebook if they have blocked you.

One of the first things you can try is to search the user’s name on Facebook and if you simply can’t find it this means that they may have blocked you.

However, this is no fool proof as the user can have their privacy settings geared in such away that they cannot be found by a simple search.

If you are aware of a mutual friend of that person on Facebook you should look at their friend’s list and if they don’t come up there then you may have been blocked.

The person could however have deleted their profile, so a good way to test this is to get someone else on a different profile to see if they can find the person when they search on Facebook.

Someone’s profile could have been disabled by themselves or by Facebook following a violation of Facebook terms.

One fool proof way to figure out whether you have been blocked or not is to search for an old conversation with that person on Facebook messenger.

Click on the conversation and if the user’s photo shows the default Facebook profile photo and if the name of the person is emboldened and you cannot click on their name then they have most certainly blocked you.

If you try to send the user a message Facebook will say there is an error.

If the person has merely disabled their Facebook account it will say Facebook user in bold rather than their actual name.

Haven't seen a friend's posts lately? Maybe that's on purpose

Updated on January 5, 2022

This article explains how to tell if a Facebook friend has blocked you.

Look for a Friend's Posts in Your Facebook Feed

Many people first begin to suspect they've been blocked by a friend on Facebook when they realize that they haven't seen their posts in their feed for a while.

It's important not to jump to conclusions when this happens, as posts can often be hidden from you by Facebook's algorithm, which is notorious for showing you content from some accounts over others. You may also have been placed on Facebook's Restricted list.

Here's how to make sure whether the algorithm or a block is responsible for missing posts.

  1. On the Facebook website or app, select the search bar at the top of the screen and type in your friend's name.

If you haven't logged in yet, make sure you do that first.

  2. You should now be shown a page with their profile photo and all of their recent posts. If your friend's name doesn't appear in your search, they might have blocked you.

Use Facebook Messenger to Check If You're Blocked

If you use the Facebook Messenger app on your smartphone, tablet, or computer, try to send them a direct message.

  1. Open the Facebook Messenger app.

  2. Tap the Compose icon in the top-right corner that looks like a pen and notepad.

This icon may look like a plus symbol on some versions of the app.

  3. The app will prompt you to enter the name of the person you wish to send a message to. Begin typing your friend's name in the field. If their name and photo show up on the screen, you will be able to send them a message and this also means that you haven't been blocked. If they don't show up, it means that you've either been blocked or that you've typed their name incorrectly.

Check Your Friends List

A fast way to see who's blocked you on Facebook is to check your friends list. Simply put, if the person you suspect has blocked you doesn't show up in your Facebook friends list, then you've been unfriended or blocked. If they do appear in your list, then you're still friends.

  1. Log into the Facebook app or website and select your profile photo.

  2. You will now be taken to your Facebook profile. On your profile should be a horizontal menu with options for About, Photos, and Friends. Select Friends.

  3. Once your friends list loads, you can scroll through it manually to locate your friend, or search for them by entering their name in the search field. If you haven't been blocked or unfriended by this person, they will appear in your friend list.

Remember to search for the name that they use for their Facebook account. If they use a nickname, enter that in the search box instead of their real name.

Tips for Looking Up a Friend

When searching for a friend with the search bar, make sure you're not only spelling their name correctly but that you're also using the name they use for their Facebook account.

Some Facebook users use their initials or even a nickname on their profiles. This means that their accounts will not show up when searching for their real name.

To get around this, ask a mutual friend if they know what username the friend using. You can also search for someone by entering their email address; however, you will need to know the specific email address that they used to create their Facebook account.
