How to soak acrylic nails off at home without acetone

Acrylic nails are seen everywhere we go and are one of the hottest trends. It is exciting getting new acrylics, but every good thing must come to an end. The best option for removing acrylic nails is to get them removed at a salon by a technician, but not all of us have the time or money to get them removed. I read that acetone is not good for your health, so I researched how to remove acrylic nails without acetone at home.

I have used acetone before to remove my acrylics, and it worked really well, but I decided to take a more natural route in removing my nails this time. The chemicals in the acetone dissolved the acrylic nails in no time, and it was almost pain-free. Below are a few ways on how to remove acrylic without acetone at home.

Removing acrylic nails with dental floss takes patience, but it is effective and can be pain-free sometimes.

You will need a dental floss stick, file, and oil or lotion.

Pry wherever you can get under your acrylic nail to make room for the floss part of the floss to go under your acrylic and above your natural nail.

Slide floss downward in a sawing motion toward the end of your nail.

File away any acrylic left on top of your natural nail but be sure not to file your natural nail.

You will need a laminated business card, lotion or oil, and an orange stick.

Pry the edges of your acrylic nail with the orange stick to make room for the laminated card to slide under your acrylic nail.

Slide the laminated card under your acrylic nail and over your natural nail.

Move the card in a slow sawing motion until the acrylic nail slides off.

Apply lotion or oil to your cuticles and natural nail bed.

Alternative: Use a credit card, but a credit card is thicker than a laminated business card, so it might take a little more prying and might also hurt since a credit card is hard.

Using acetone-free nail polish remover will take longer to remove your acrylic nails but is safe and effective.

You will need a bottle of acetone-free nail polish remover, a tweezer, a bowl, a nail clipper, and a file.

Clip your acrylic nails as short as you can – this can be a painful process, so try cutting at an angle.

Pry the edges of your acrylic nails with the end of your tweezer.

Pour the acetone-free nail polish remover into a bowl deep enough to soak your fingers.

Soak your nails for about 40 minutes or until you can feel the acrylic nails starting to lose from your natural nail bed.

Use your tweezer to pull the nail gently away from your natural nail, but if the nail does not come off easily/quickly, then please resoak your acrylic nails.

4. Remove Acrylic Nail Using Warm Water

Warm or hot water soak is one of my favorite methods to remove fake acrylic nails, and it is pretty safe.

You will need a heatproof bowl, warm to hot water (depending on your tolerance), a nail file, orange stick, and nail clipper.

Trim your nails as short as you can with your nail clipper. Cutting your nail can be painful, so cut at an angle or whatever is suitable for you.

Pry the edge of your acrylic nail up so the water can penetrate the glue.

Pour the warm to hot water in a heatproof bowl,

Soak your nail for about 40 minutes in the warm to hot water.

HINT: I like to have a candlelit under my heatproof bowl to keep my water temperature warm.

Filing away your acrylic nail will take a great deal of patience because it is time-consuming.

You will need a nail file or buffer, an orange stick, a nail clipper, a cuticle scissor, nail polish remover, and cuticle oil, vaseline, or lotion.

Clip your acrylic nail to the shorts length you can and remember to take it slowly because it might hurt.

Remove the nail polish with either nail polish remover or by filing away the nail polish.

File your acrylic nails using long strokes until you reach your natural nails, but please be careful not to file your natural nail.

Use your cuticle scissor to remove any acrylic nail that remains on your natural nail. Please clip small pieces of any remaining acrylic at a time because clipping too much can damage your natural nail.
