If you missed the window during adolescence to shift from “Mummy” to “Mum”, because you were busy sniffing glue and whatnot, the wind changes and you’re stuck like that.

Touchingly, she recalls idly wondering in the past which of her friends would not make it to old age. Instead, with Ruby, 15, and Oisin, 13, he will have the sort of regular Sunday that Hughes always enjoyed. Mother’s Day was never a big event inside their home and this year Glynn has no formal plans to mark the moment.
