Learn how to apply technical skills and critical thinking to manage information The study of information systems and operations management prepares students for careers in information systems development and support in business,
government and other arenas. An organization that requires computer technology to perform work duties depends on a systems manager to keep everything running smoothly. The computer information systems manager is responsible for administering and implementing all computer-related technologies, including network security, internet operations and software upgrades. Systems
managers may supervise the installation of computer hardware and the maintenance of security networks. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that job openings in this profession were likely to increase 15 percent from 2014 to 2024, which is much faster than average. In 2015, the bureau reported an average annual salary of $141,000 for computer and information systems managers. A career in this field is a good choice for
someone who wants to develop technical expertise and learn how things work. Graduates of this program are not only technically competent, but understand how to use information technology for business success. FGCU’s courses include projects designed to enhance critical thinking, oral and written communications and teamwork skills. Students are introduced to ethical and global issues via the study of computer information systems
business cases. A concentration in computer programming is also offered at FGCU within this field.

In collaboration with external partners, we conduct research projects on, for instance, smart industries, port-related operations, maintenance, planning/scheduling/simulation, inventory and e-logistics and lean operations, in a variety of sectors (manufacturing, energy, healthcare, logistics, service industries, among others). Research Institute related to the MSc programme: Operations Management & Operations Research. I have courses where you actually work on designing and programmingI visited the Master’s Day of the faculty and after the presentations, I was certain that I wanted to do this programme. I find the MSc TOM study very practical and mathematical. For the majority of the courses, I actually work on designing and programming, which I really enjoy. The Master is challenging as it requires a lot of self-responsibility to keep up with all the courses. I have never had experience with programming before but I tried to keep up with the work every week, have a lot of contact with my fellow students and ask for help from the lecturers. Like this, I managed to pass the course without any problems in the end. Overall the programme has shown me that I am particularly interested in working in the operational and technological area in the future. Groningen is a cosy student city, I have been studying for 6 years now and I still do not want to leave.I like that it’s very easy to make friends in Groningen.
