Medium rare steak in ninja air fryer

Jump to Recipe

I had never thought about cooking steak in an air fryer until Mother Nature forced me to do so.

The plan was to cook steaks out on the grill. However, a huge line of thunderstorms unexpectedly appeared and I knew that I had to come up with a different plan.

I could have pan fried or even baked the steaks. Although, as soon as I saw my Ninja Foodi Air Crisper out on the counter, I knew I had to give it a try.

And I was shocked at how good the steaks came out! Not to mention that they were done way faster than I expected.

In fact, they were ready to eat in just 20 minutes! And that time includes letting them rest after they were cooked.

Now, I have to admit, I cook my steak this way more often than not!

Ingredients

  • Sirloin Strip Steaks, about 1 inch thick
  • Montreal Steak Seasoning
  • Worcestershire Sauce

Instructions

Although you could season and cook the steak in an air fryer right away, you will get better results if you follow this tried true method instead.

First, start off with sirloin strip steaks that are about 1 inch in thickness. This type and cut of steak are commonly found at the butcher counter of your local grocery store.

Depending on how much fat is located on the side of the steak, you might want to trim a little of the fat. However, don’t trim too much off. A little bit of fat will add extra flavor to the steak when cooked.

Next sprinkle Montreal Steak Seasoning on both sides of each steak. Then place the steaks in a resealable plastic bag or container.

Pour Worcestershire sauce in the bag, on both sides of the steak. You don’t need the steaks to be soaking in the liquid. Just pour enough in that it coats both sides.

Seal the container and let it marinate for at least an hour, but preferably 4-8 hours.

You Could Also Marinate Ahead and Freeze

Whenever I go to Sam’s club, I buy a large family pack of Sirloin steaks and freeze them in packs of 2 steaks per bag.

I season the steaks and put them in a Food Saver bag. Then I pour the Worcestershire sauce in the bag and vacuum seal.

Into the freezer they go! And whenever I am ready to cook steaks in the air fryer, I pull them out of the freezer and let them thaw, already marinated!

Air Fryer vs. Air Fryer Oven

As we all know, air fryers are very different based on the size, brand, and style that you purchase. Depending on how big the steaks are you may have to cook them in batches.

You don’t want the steaks to overlap each other or they will cook unevenly.

However, if you have an air fryer oven, like my Power 360 Air fryer, you can cook both at the same time.

But size isn’t the only difference when it comes to cooking steaks in your air fryer. It has been my experience that my Ninja Foodi Air Crisper/Pressure Cooker combo cooks faster and hotter than my air fryer oven.

Therefore, it is always best to use a digital food thermometer to test the internal temperature so that you don’t under or over cook the steaks.

Let the steaks sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before cooking. Then place the steaks in the basket and air fry at 400°F for 6 minutes. Then flip the steaks and continue to cook for an additional 6-10 minutes, depending on how done you like your steaks.
