Easily one of my favorite $uicideboy$ albums. Really all of their mxitapes/albums (whatever) are pretty amazing. As someone who grew up a big Memphis & Houston rap fan, these guys take some influences from both those scenes and created something very unique and awesome. If these dudes would have been around when I was in high school, wow. So glad they exist. Havent been a fan since they first came out, but when I first heard them in 2016, became a huge fan immediately. Best thing I heard in years. My Liver Will Handle What My Heart Can't
Excellent and underrated While Suicideboys uses to drop some ordinary and decent content most of the time, they still released this mixtape some years ago that contains several of their gerteast songs released up to date. My honest and personal rate is strong 9 and I understand if most of you dont enjoy it as much than I do. In my opinion this release is THE GREATEST MUSIC RELEASE EXPRESSING PSYCHOLOGICAL DISTRESS. Musically it's rich and varied, it's a short release as well, 30 minutes. Some songs are softly expressing the distress, I'm thinking about Opal ring which is in my opinion the second greatest track in this release. Finally I'm still giving this record a perfect score because it's one of my favorite one, I'm listening to it regularly. Published
They went for a certain sound and the captured it perfectly you can say what you want about this album, but you cant deny that they captured the sound they wanted perfectly. The atmosphere is creepy, satanic, dark, dangerous, and flat out powerful. Listening to some of these songs is really like locking your self in a dark room with a serial killer and a evil spirit that's angry at his past life. The way they're able to put these emotions in their music and paint the realities that they paint is honestly art. Then they have songs that are depressing but up beat at the same time (Fold), they have songs that feel like regretful spirits crying out for help(Shattered Amethyst, Opal Ring Whoa I'm Woeful), songs that are more humanized but still very very dark and aggressive(FuckThePopulation, Tulane, Kill YourSelf III, A Death in the Ocean Would Be So Beautiful-to be fair this one is less aggressive and more woeful but still humanized) and they have songs that are like evil demons throwing so much angry and negative energy at you that it can honestly shake you up and terrify you if you take it seriously and immerse yourself into the music(Vincent Van Gogh Ain't Got Shit on Me, Reign in Blood). There aren't really any songs on here that id listen to just casually because of how negative and depressing it is, but god damn is it art. Published
idk what everyone is on this shit fucking bangs and creates its own unique atmosphere and i love every second of it Published I don't know why I choose to review what I do. But CivilWar's post both dug under my skin and motivated me to check this album out. I passed it over in my first cull of their discography, partially because of his curt review. It's clear on here that $uicideboy$ haven't refined their sound yet. All of their pre-2016 releases are uneven to say the least. It's funny seeing them attempt a song like "Whoa, I'm Woeful" by taking a random four bars from a similar rapper, then looping it as the hook with a melodic first verse. They tried it again with "Cherry P.I.E" from Dark Side of the Clouds and it was like five times better. I am a huge Memphis rap fan and it often irks me when new artists jack their entire style, and $uicideboy$ undeniably do it at times. But they don't steal as much as place their own spin on the aesthetic (which is all it is; arguing about "real rap" is pointless in 2017). A pity their spin is so boring and unfocused. "Reign In Blood" and "FuckThePopulation" were the only songs I liked. The beats don't catch my ear and the flows aren't hard enough to sustain much interest. Try Dark Side of the Clouds instead. Yes, it's derivative. But Memphis revival rap made 21 years after Mystic Stylez can't not be. Published Some of the worst rapping and flow i have ever heard, spitting the most trash bars while they relentlessly sample classic memphis tracks These posers are the fucking Vanilla Ice of underground southern hip hop.
