Pa real estate license continuing education requirements

The Pennsylvania State Real Estate Commission requires each real estate sales licensee to take 14 hours of continuing education during each license renewal period. 

  • 2022-2024 Renewal Period requirement for those licensed prior to 12/1/21 is that a minimum of 3 (three) hours of the required 14 hours of continuing education must be taken in a topic that covers the responsibilities of the broker and the responsibilities of their licensees in regard to property management, advertising, and general supervision which would include, but not be limited to, commissions and fees. 
  • New licensees (licensed after 12/1/21) who are renewing for the first time are exempt from the above requirement but are still required to complete the mandatory courses for new licensees pursuant to 49 PA Code §35.384(b). The mandatory required 14-hour CE classes. i.e, General Module, Commercial Module, Residential module each being 7 hours.
  • Anyone licensed after 12/1/23 will not take CE for the renewal period 2022-2024.
  • BCREI does not report continuing education to the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission.  Once all course requirements are completed, you will be issued a Course Completion Certificate/Transcript for the course. The Real Estate Commission requires the licensee to maintain the transcripts from each continuing education class taken. The Real Estate Commission may require you to produce the transcripts in order to prove attendance. BCREI does maintain a database of transcripts but encourages students to keep separate records as well.

14 continuing education hours every 24 months. Licenses expire May 31 of every even-numbered year.

At the August 25, 2020, Real Estate Commission meeting, the Commission voted to impose a continuing education requirement for the period ending May 31, 2022. The provision mandates that at least 3.5 hours of the required 14 hours of continuing education must address the topics of the Fair Housing Act, redlining, steering, implicit bias, and diversity.

If you are renewing your Pennsylvania real estate license for the first time, you must complete 14 hours of Commission approved continuing education, which consists of a specific set of CE modules.
In other words, first-time licensees must take a 'special' 14-hour continuing education course, which is different from the 14-hour CE course taken by licensees who have already renewed their license at least once.
First-time renewal continuing education courses consist of a 7-hour General Module, plus either a 7-hour Commercial Module or a 7-hour Residential Module.

Pennsylvania real estate licensees are required to complete 14 hours of Commission approved continuing education during each biennial renewal period.

If you are renewing your Pennsylvania real estate license for the first time, your 14 hours of CE must consist of a specific set of continuing education modules.
