Looking to get away with the family? Now that travel is back to normal, here's some of our favourite cities to travel to from Singapore with kids…

Living in Singapore, you’re smack bang in the middle of some beautiful places to visit around Asia and beyond. We’ve got a list of the tried-and-tested cities to visit with kids. Because we want to make your life easier… and give you some travel inspo!

Family-friendly cities to visit with the kids

1. Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok’s great for family-friendly trips and activities. Explore its aquatic wonderland at Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World or enjoy adrenaline-pumping rollercoasters at Dream World theme park. The littlies will never want to leave this city of endless fun! Looking for edutainment? Bounce away with the fam at Bounce Bangkok for even more fun times! Or, enjoy some outdoor fun at the Children’s Discovery Museum. There’s a giant sandbox, climbing gym, and even a water play area!

2. Danang & Hoi An, Vietnam

With flights from JetStar and SilkAir, Danang is easy to get to from our little red dot. The food is fabulous, the beaches are incredible and the shopping (especially bespoke tailoring) is super cheap. A beach resort is a bit pricier, but totally worth the money for all the splashing family fun the kids will have. Read more about what we did in Danang and Hoi An here.

3. Seoul, South Korea

Seoul is a great choice for a family trip! This one’s a colourful city with a rich culture perfect to be explored with tiny tots. Dress up in a Hanbok (a 1,600-year-old Korean celebratory outfit worn by men, women and children) and visit the mural village with loads of street art to be admired. And did we mention the scrumptious Korean cuisine? Don’t miss delish family-friendly food options when you visit this beaut city with the kids!

4. Sydney, Australia

For a more laid-back cosmopolitan experience, Sydney is a great city break for the family. Tiny tots will enjoy Taronga Zoo and, while you’re there, adventurous teens will get a kick out of the Wild Ropes aerial assault. The famous Manly Ferry offers a gorgeous view of Sydney Harbour, and once you reach Manly there’s loads of beach fun to be had. End the day with a walk at Circular Quay and snap some stunning photos. After all, this trip is sure to be a memorable one!

5. Perth, Australia

The capital of Western Australia, Perth is a delight to be savoured time and time again either for a sneaky long weekend or school holiday break. One place that’ll be great to take the kids is Elizabeth Quay – plenty of things to see and do over here! There’s a super cool (and free) playground, an interactive water park, or go on a stroll along the riverside and public art via the arched suspension bridge. Don’t forget to spend a day at Fremantle Markets too.

6. London, UK

London is a great launchpad for anywhere else in Europe. Bring the munchkins along and head to any of the museums (the Natural History Museum is sure to be a hit) or head to a Theatre Show instead. Wander around Covent Garden and catch the street performers, or visit the London Transport Museum if you’ve got a train enthusiast. One thing you can’t miss? Buckingham Palace early in the morning to watch the Changing of the Guards! There’s plenty to do with the kiddos in London, and once you’ve got the hang of the Tube and the bus system, it’s a breeze!

7. Tokyo, Japan

One city in the world that families love visiting with their kids is definitely Tokyo! Not only is the city kid-friendly (hello, Disneyland and DisneySea!), but is chock full of historical sights that will awe and amaze even the little ones. Bring in some stillness into your lives with a visit to Meiji Shrine Park. Shop till you drop at Harajuku – there are many clothing stores that the whole fam can enjoy browsing. Thinking of visiting the museums? There are many of them here; we recommend the Cup Noodles Museum in Yokohama and the Ghibli Museum for fans of Studio Ghibli. (FYI: at the mo you can only visit Japan as part of a tour group, so keep that in mind…)

8. Athens, Greece

Athens is a little bit further afield from Singapore, but it’s a great spot to take your culture vulture tweens and teens to explore. There’s loads of history to take in, such as climbing the Acropolis and the ruins of the Temple of Olympian Zeus. The street food is delicious (we’re drooling over those souvlakis!), and the wine is cheap too. What’s not to love? HoneyKids Asia took the kids to Athens, check out our experience here.

9. Zurich, Switzerland

Being the largest city in Switzerland, there’s plenty to excite the kiddos in Zurich! Add WOW Museum to your list of things to do here as the little ones (and big ones) will be amazed by the unique museum with optical illusions. Once you’ve convinced the kiddos to leave the museum, head to Uetilbrg where you can indulge in stunning views of the city at 850 metres above sea level. The fun doesn’t stop there: you’ll also wanna chill with the fam at Zurich’s very own Botanic Gardens and Lake Zurich. Now go live like the Swiss!

10. Rome, Italy

This eternal city will no doubt grab the littlies’ attention. Indulge in the world’s best Italian ice cream with the kids here as they admire Rome’s streets and architecture. Let them experience the first traditional, open-air puppet theatre for some kiddie entertainment, and don’t miss the gorgeous monuments with domes, temples and amphitheatres that’ll leave you and the kiddies in awe. Check out the marble foot street where you can snap funny pics of the fam next to a 7.6-metre tall giant foot!

Short family getaways from Singapore

11. Paris, France

This one’s a perfect destination to explore with the kids! From Disneyland to serene parks and the popular Eiffel Tower, Paris screams fun-packed family adventures. It’s here where you can spoil your kids with delish chocolate and crêpes (yum!) and more pastries than you shake a wheel of Brie at. Take a stroll and surprise the munchkins with a giant playground with streams to play in at Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, or bring them on a digital art adventure at L’Atelier des Lumières; a 3000 square-metre studio with 10-metre high digital art installations. Good luck asking the kids to leave!

You’ll want to hop into a canal boat in Amsterdam too. You’re promised a gorgeous view of the city across a semi-circle network of waterways. Oh, and did we mention the stunning tulip fields?

15. Munich, Germany

Munich is a great city to visit at any time of year, but it’s also a Christmas wonderland for kids. Time a trip to this gorge city in the winter to really set the mood. Whether it’s visiting the elephant gate at Germany’s oldest zoo as the little ones enjoy delish ice cream, or discovering the ancient paths of monster lizards and prehistoric finds at the Museum of National History, Berlin has tons of exciting activities and fun attractions to keep both you and the fam busy. Immerse in the architecture of the Charlottenburg Palace with lavish decor, and if you have Lego fans at home, you might wanna check out Legoland Berlin too!

17. San Francisco, USA

The perfect city break with the kids, albeit 15 hours away, is San Francisco. Prepare yourself for the long journey, but we promise it’ll be worth it. The little ones will enjoy traipsing the hills of San Fran on the trams and checking out the sea lions at Pier 39. There’s plenty for tweens and teens to check out, too: Alcatraz and lunch at the Ferry Building is just one idea. Check out what we got up to with our little ones in San Francisco!

If your little ones are science geeks, you don’t want to miss Science World in Vancouver with its exhibits, activities, shows and displays. Apart from attractions like Vancouver Aquarium, Aquabus and FlyOver Canada for a bird’s eye view of the city, Canada is also home to fab winter sports. Try ice-skating, skiing, snowboarding or snowshoeing at several outdoor parks and centres for some winter fun. A short four-hour flight away, Hong Kong is a great city to take the kiddos. Getting around is easy by train, bus or taxi, but the best bit for kids is of course Hong Kong Disneyland. Got older kids? They’ll enjoy the thrill rides at Ocean Park instead. If the weather is nice, it’s beautiful to hike around The Peak, the highest point in Hong Kong, where you’ll enjoy gorgeous views of the cityscape. Check out our sister site, Honeycombers Hong Kong for more fun things to do in the city. Read about our time visiting the Fragrant Harbour here.
