Why doesn’t my American Express user ID work on AmexGiftCard.com?

AmexGiftCard.com is a separate website with its own user ID and password, and therefore your American Express user ID cannot be used to sign in to the site. Once you create your user ID and password on AmexGiftCard.com, you can sign in to the website and view past orders placed after July 17, 2018, modify personal information, and create an address book for future orders.

How do I activate my Amex Gift Card?

If your Gift Card was purchased at AmexGiftCard.com, in most cases, the Card is ready for use immediately. You may activate your Card by signing in to https://balance.amexgiftcard.com with your Card details or by calling the toll-free number listed on the back of your Card. You will need to provide your Card number, valid thru date, and security code located on the back of your Card.

We recommend that you sign your name on the back of the Gift Card, and record the following information in case your Gift Card is ever lost or stolen: Gift Card number, 4-digit Card Identification Code on the front of the Card, 3-digit Card Security Code located on the back of the Card, Customer Service phone number.

What do I do if my Gift Card is lost or stolen?

If you believe that your Card has been lost or stolen, you need to notify us immediately by calling 1-888-846-4308. You will be asked to provide us with the Card number and other identifying information. We cannot provide a replacement Card unless you provide your Card number and all other requested information. If our records show a balance remaining on the Card, we will cancel the lost Card and issue a replacement Card to you in an amount equal to the remaining balance.

How do I use my American Express Gift Card to shop in-store?

1. Be sure to know your balance before you shop. Check your balance at https://balance.amexgiftcard.com or call 1-888-846-4308. To use your Gift Card along with another form of payment, just tell the cashier how much you want to apply to each payment type.

Please note, not all merchants allow split payment transactions and some transaction types require a hold of up to 20% above the purchase amount.2. Swipe your Card and select Credit on the keypad.

Your American Express eGift Card can also be used in-store to pay when added to digital wallets: Apple Pay®, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay.

How do I use my American Express Gift Card to shop online?

1. Make sure the balance of the American Express Gift Card is more than the entire cost of the purchase, including taxes.

Please note: some transaction types require a hold of up to 20% above the purchase amount.2. Select ‘Credit’ or ‘Debit’ as the payment method (Do not select ‘Gift Card’).

3. In the Payment Method section, enter the card information as you would a credit or debit card

4. In the Billing Address section, please fill in your name and address

How do you activate your American Express gift card?

Most American Express gift cards come ready to use and do not require activation. You may also activate your card by going to AmexGiftCard.com/balance or calling the number on the back of the card. Provide your card number, card expiration date, and the security code to activate your Amex gift card.

How do I activate my American Express gift card?

American Express gift cards can be activated by visiting AmexGiftCard.com/balance. Alternatively, you can call the 1-800 or 1-888 number on the back of the card. To activate, you will need your card number, expiration date, and the security code.

When you visit AmexGiftCard.com/balance, you will be prompted to enter in your card information. 

To activate your card, do the following:

1. Enter in your 15-digit card number without spaces
2. Enter in the Expiration Date
3. There is a four-digit security code on the front of the card. Enter in the four-digit security code.
4. Optional: Enter in your email address. Your email will be linked to the card, but you’ll also receive promotional content from Amex.
5. Perform the Captcha
6. Click ‘sign in’ and you’ll be able to check your gift card balance. Your gift card is now registered and activated.

What number do I call to activate my American Express gift card?

The number to call for Amex gift card activation can be found on the back of your American Express gift card. The number is a 1-800 or 1-888 toll-free number, so you can activate your card on-the-go. You may also try calling customer service at 1-888-846-4308 to activate your card.

Do I have to activate my American Express gift card?

In most cases, you do not have to activate your American Express gift card. To activate your card, call the toll free number on the back of the card or visit AmexGiftCard.com/balance. Your card will be activated once you’ve provided your card number, valid thru date, and the security code.

The safest thing to do is attempt to activate your card if you’re unsure. Registering your card online is a good idea so you can check your balance.

Typically, gift cards that are bought online are already activated. Store bought gift cards may require activation.

Do American Express gift cards have an activation fee?

American Express gift cards do not have an activation fee. Instead, a fee is charged at the time of purchase. Therefore, you shouldn’t have any fees after the initial purchase.

You should note that the fee does not affect your gift card balance. For example, if you bought a $100 gift card the purchase fee would be in addition to the $100 balance.

Purchasing an Amex gift card online at AmexGiftCard.com/gift has a $3.95 purchase fee. Therefore, your total cost of purchasing a $100 gift card would be $103.95. Other retailers may charge their own fees for the initial purchase.
