With the condensate of the average air compressor containing approximately 300 parts per million (ppm) of oil, it is necessary to have an oil/water separator installed to keep your facility within EPA's stringent regulations.

Another common way to prevent moisture in air compressor units is with desiccant air dryers, which consist of tiny beads that absorb water from the incoming air. With a design and function that is similar to a water trap filter, the desiccant air dryer absorbs moisture from a compressed air system.

Water Separators remove condensate, either with a centrifugal design or a coalescing principle. A centrifugal separator (Figure 1) causes a rotary motion in the air, forcing particles to accelerate in a radial outward movement. Once they reach the outside, they drain into the bowl.
