What make up can i take on a plane

Can't travel without your makeup? We completely understand - we're the same way. Whether you're going on a personal trip or have a client in a different state, you may find yourself needing to travel with your makeup frequently.

Since your makeup is so precious, you always want to keep your eyes on them. You'll never know how your products are being handled if they're placed in checked luggage. The best way to ensure that your makeup is safe and free from damage is by having your makeup bag as your carry-on.

The good news is, no restrictions say that you can't use your makeup case as a carry-on bag. But there are restrictions on the amount and types of makeup you can pack inside your carry-on bags. This is where things get a bit tricky.

We'll be discussing the TSA regulations on having makeup on a plane, the weight limit for carry-ons, and the best place to get a carry-on makeup bag. As long as you keep these rules and advice in mind, you won't have to worry about bringing makeup on a plane.

What Are The Restrictions For Bringing Makeup On A Plane?

Makeup comes in all forms and sizes, and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has different rules depending on the form your makeup is. They are particularly strict with liquids and even have what they call a 311 liquids rule.

We'll give a brief explanation of this rule, together with other frequently asked questions about bringing makeup on a plane.

The 311 Liquids Rule

The 311 rule is the general rule for carrying liquids, gels, pastes, aerosols, or any creamy substance on a plane. To make the 311 rule a bit easier to understand, we'll be breaking down the explanation into three parts—one for each number.

  • "3": Your liquids must be contained in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100mL). Even if the liquids inside the container are less than 3.4 ounces., but the container itself is bigger than 3.4 ounces, you will not be allowed to bring it on the plane.
  • "1": All your liquids must fit comfortably into a 1-quart size plastic bag or Ziploc—emphasis on comfortably. It must not be stuffed, bursting at the seams, or forcefully packed inside the Ziploc. You may be asked to throw out some items to make them fit more comfortably inside the Ziploc. This bag is also known as the liquids bag.
  • "1": One person can only bring one 1-quart size resealable liquids bag.

Does the 311 Rule Apply To Liquid & Gel Makeup?

Yes. Liquid foundation, bb cream, concealer, liquid mascara, liquid eyeliners, gel or liquid lip balm, lip gloss, liquid makeup remover, nail polish, nail polish remover, and other liquids are affected by the 311 rule.

If any of your liquid, gel, or cream makeups go over 3.4 ounces, you might be forced to throw them away. To avoid throwing away your precious makeup, make sure to transfer them into 3.4-ounce bottles, jars, or tubes and seal them in a quart-size bag.

What About Solid Or Powder Makeup?

When bringing solid or powdered makeup on a plane, you're in luck. There are no size or quantity restrictions. That includes pressed powders, stick lip balms, lipsticks, eyeliner pencils, and so on.

If you can fit all your solid makeup into your carry-on bag, then yes, feel free to take them with you in your carry-on bag. Makeup remover wipes, other wet wipes, and deodorant sticks are also allowed.

But there is one exception. If you have powder makeup that is over 12 ounces, you might have to undergo additional screening. Powdered makeup may be mistaken for drugs or explosives, so it only makes sense that the TSA will want to take a closer look.

If you want to avoid additional screenings so that your travel goes smoothly, pack any non-essential powder-like substances such as baby powder in your checked bag.

Are Makeup Tools Allowed?

Sharp items are not allowed on the plane. As long as your makeup tools aren't sharp, you'll be fine. Makeup brushes, pencil sharpeners, nail clippers, disposable razors, electric razors, and tweezers are all allowed in your carry-on bags.
