LANSDALE — The area’s newest grocery store is just hours away from opening its doors.

Workers are putting the finishing touches on the new Grocery Outlet Bargain Market in the Pavilion shopping center in Lansdale, ahead of a grand opening scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday.

“We are overjoyed to be a part of the Lansdale community, and be able to provide big savings on quality groceries,” said co-owners Todd Orr and Claudia Aguayo in a statement.

“This partnership with Grocery Outlet gives us the ability to grow our business, create new jobs, and more importantly, give back to our community,” the two said.

On Tuesday afternoon, Orr was in transit between several Grocery Outlet Bargain Market sites as co-owner Claudia Aguayo headed into the Lansdale store, while workers there headed in for training and finishing touches, and passersby pulled up and walked to the door to check when the store would officially open. One employee said the new Lansdale store was the “nicest I’ve ever seen,” while another said she and her friends were planning to spend plenty of time there.

“A lot of people I know are talking about this store opening up. And I’m like, ‘Well, I’ll be working there.’ I live right near here, and it’s so nice to see something in here again. It’s been almost a decade,” she said.

The now-filled store site, in the Pavilion shopping center at Broad Street and Whites Road with a street address of 561 S. Broad, has been empty since a Super Foodtown grocery store in the same location closed in April 2011 and part of the space was converted into an adjacent Dollar Tree store in 2012. Super Foodtown had been open for roughly two years, following on the heels of the Vidalia Market Place, which was open for roughly 14 months in 2007-08 after the site had previously hosted a Drug Emporium and “I Got it at Gary’s” discount drugstore, according to MediaNews Group archives.

Grocery Outlet Bargain Market is a California-based extreme value retailer that operates more than 400 stores nationwide, and offers a full range of products including fresh produce, meat, deli and dairy, along with natural and organic choices, according to a company statement.

The ribbon cutting and grand opening on Thursday morning will be accompanied by giveaways of gift cards to the first 100 customers who arrive when doors open at 7 a.m., free reusable bags while supplies last, and contests to win up to $1,000 in free groceries. The store has created roughly two dozen jobs, and provides the same brand names as other chains, but with lower prices, according to the company, and the owners have donated $1,000 to local nonprofit food pantry Manna on Main Street and $500 to the North Penn School District as a welcome to the community.

“It looks so good in there. We started setting up when it was completely empty, and now that it’s all filled up, it looks so great,” said the employee, who asked not to be identified.

Signs on the store’s front doors included codes linking to the store’s social media pages, the opening date of April 28, store hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, types of payments accepted including major credit cards, EBT and Snap, and Apple Pay, and photos of the owners saying: “Serving Lansdale since 2022.”

General Questions

Over the years many enthusiasts have shared tips on how to make the most of being a Grocery Outlet Bargain Market shopper, and we want to share them here with you:

  • Stop by often. Our inventory changes constantly. Find out when your store receives product and plan a trip on those days.
  • When you find something you like, stock up. Many of our bargains are a one-time deal.
  • Sign up for email from us, and follow us on Social Media. Sometimes we have special deals or in-store sales events, when the savings get really crazy. We always notify our email and social networking friends first when we do this. You can find us here: Sign up for Email, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram
  • Look for what you’re not looking for.  Using a list is helpful for staying on budget, but many expert shoppers tell us they get some of their best deals by staying flexible and ready to act when they see a great bargain.

Grocery Outlet does not accept manufacturer coupons. Our business model and relationships with top name brands allow us to buy products at an extreme discount off regular wholesale cost netting out all allowances, marketing funds (which include coupon redemption) and other expenses normally built into the cost.

This allows us to negotiate the absolute lowest cost and pass those savings directly to our customers by offering deep discounts every day. Many of our products are priced less than you would pay elsewhere with a coupon.

You can sign up to receive Grocery Outlet ads, and information about special buys, wine tastings, store events and Grocery Outlet sponsored coupons via email. Click here to visit our sign-up page: Sign up for Email

Wow Alerts

The most exciting part of shopping at Grocery Outlet is finding that amazing deal — the one that makes you say “WOW!” To serve you these “WOW” deals in real-time, we created WOW Alerts, an email program that pulls the best, top-selling, unadvertised deals from your local store and sends them straight to your inbox.

  • Have a high savings. To qualify for WOW Alerts, products must be a killer deal.  For most departments, that means a savings of 50% or higher off the original retail price elsewhere.
  • Be a top-seller in their department. Wow Alert items are the top-sellers from the previous day.  Customers “vote” with their dollars, and we send you their favorites. So, WOW Alert items are not particularly items that we are promoting – they are being selected by your fellow customers.
  • Have enough inventory. WOW Alert items will have enough inventory, so you’ll have time to get to the store before they run out – but be sure to act fast!  These are hot, top-selling items, we can’t guarantee how long they’ll last!

Due to the nature of how we source product, we advertise 1-2 times per month in print to highlight our everyday low prices. When we put items on an ad, we select the deals that are universal to all our stores and that we have enough quantity to support.

With WOW Alerts, you’re getting new, exciting items delivered straight to your inbox! We know that a lot of our customers wish they could be notified about our hottest, unadvertised deals before they sell out – and we’ve solved that request with WOW Alerts.

Through our Preference Center.  Just opt-in next to the WOW Alerts toggle: Preference Center

Be sure to set your store preference when you sign up.  WOW Alerts are store-specific, so without a store preference set, we can’t send you WOW Alerts. You can also set your frequency and content preferences.

Through our Preference Center. You can change your settings from daily to weekly, and choose which day you’d like to receive your WOW Alerts email: Preference Center
