What to wear to diwali party if youre not indian

I am super excited to share my 5 Diwali outfits because it’s my first ever lookbook with ony Indian outfits. I tried quite a few new things and combinations for the first time like a nose ring, silver accessories with gold hues, sleek hair (I usually prefer curly hair with traditional outfits), silver statement necklace and wearing kimono as a traditional jacket.

Diwali was my favorite festival growing up. I could hardly sleep the night before because of the excitement the following morning. My favorite memory is obviously doing fireworks with my brother and parents, wearing new clothes and putting up lights with my mom all around the house to make sure every corner is lit.

Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains for a variety of reasons, although the main theme which runs throughout is the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.

To celebrate, houses are decorated with diya (oil lamp) and huge firework displays are held while families feast and share gifts. Diwali is celebrated for 5 days in some parts of India. The actual day of Diwali is traditionally celebrated on the third day, which this year falls on 10/27. 

I have put together 5 Diwali outfits for 5 days. of Diwali celebrations In my family, we only celebrate it one day i.e. the actual Diwali day. Here are all the festive accessories I was able to find on Etsy and Amazon. Etsy is my favorite place to shop for traditional stuff because they are all handmade, and in a way, you can support artisans.

Now let’s talk about the outfits

1. Burgundy Lehenga with Ruffle Blouse for Diwali

The Burgundy tulle Lehenga and orange ruffled blouse just set the fall mood for me. You can rent this Lehenga set from Leasing looks. Isn’t it amazing that you don’t have to spend a ton of money on a heavy lehenga set that you know you are not gonna get a lot of wear out if it? I like the idea of leasing for a special occasion and not feel entitled to wear it often.

I love that the tulle skirt is not heavy and the blouse is not short. I always shapewear with Lehengas sets so I don’t show my waist when I raise or move my hands.

2. Sharara Suit for Diwali

Sharara suits are very much on-trend right now. This is my favorite shade of green, so hard to find in western wear. I like the gold accents on this suit. Usually, sharara pants are paired with straight cut tunic tops but this comes with a peplum style top. I was worried, it’s going to make me look huge with loose tunic and pants but I love how it beautiful irrespective of a lot of fabric

3. Silver Jewelry with Gold Hues

I mentioned in my saree trend post that silver is so much on trend lately that even the birdes are opting for silver zari saree or silver jewelry on their wedding day.  This outfit is so me. I like taking individual pieces and creating my own outfit. I bought all these 3 pieces separately without no thought of pairing them together. I put together this look on a whim for my friend’s house warming party and loved it. I got so many heads turns when I was there. Moreover, yellow is such a scared and vibrant color to wear it for puja.

4. All White Diwali Outfit:

Whenever you are not sure what to wear, going monochrome is a great idea. Not only you instantly look put together, but also elegant. Go for all white or all cream look. Again, I put together 3 pieces that I bought separately together for this look.

5. Indo-Western Look

I wanted to create an outfit with a long jacket. I don’t have any in a traditional style so I wore a Kimono instead. I like how this turned out, I paired a neon crop top as a blouse. Neon colors have been on trend since last year and are so easy to find right now plus the color will make you stand out in the crowd. However, neon colors can look flashy or gaudy easily. To avoid that I paired the top with a neutral color pant and jacket while highlighting the top and the jewelry. My kimono is from Dynamite, they make the best ones, very soft and structured.
