Garbage Collection Service Guidelines

Curbside Garbage Service
  • Trash Collection Tuesday and Friday. Please have waste curbside by 7:00 A.M.
  • Recycling Collection Tuesday.
Household Trash – Garage Pickup – Must be VISIBLE from Curb
  • Household waste should be placed in personal trash cans between 20 and 96 gallons and under 50 pounds, or sturdy bags not exceeding 50 pounds. Waste should placed near garage in a location CLEARLY VISIBLE from the curb.
Recycle – Curbside Pickup
  • Recyclable materials should be placed loose in your recycling container.  Please do NOT bag your recyclables!  Bagging your recyclables could cause them to be rejected by the recycling facility and instead be handled as household garbage.
Yard Waste – Curbside Pickup – Next to Driveway
  • Yard waste should be bagged or placed in cans not exceeding 50 pounds. Bagged yard waste should be placed curbside next to the driveway. Branches should be placed curbside in bundles measuring no more than 4′ x 4′ x 4′ and under 50 pounds. Limit 8 bundles per service day.
Heavy Trash and Bulk – Curbside Pickup – Next to Driveway
  • Texas Pride Disposal will collect two heavy trash/bulk items per service day. Items include furniture, appliances, carpeting (tied and bundled), fencing (nails removed, tied and bundled under 4′ in length), and other items not disposed of regularly. Items should be curbside next to the driveway.
Items Excluded from Regular Collection
  • The following items cannot be collected: dirt, rocks, brick, concrete, liquid paints, fuels, oils, tires, pesticides, fertilizer, and batteries. Please contact Texas Pride Disposal to discuss solutions for proper disposal of these items.

Holidays

In the event that your service day falls on a holiday, collection will roll to the next regularly scheduled collection day.

Texas Pride Disposal reserves the right to add, delete or change holidays; and will notify residents of any such alteration to the holidays at least thirty (30) days in advance.

Sanitation Department 

Oversees the collection and disposal of solid waste in accordance with the agreement between the City of South Houston and its solid waste contractor Republic Waste.

The City provides curbside trash pickup service once a week for residential customers. 

Residential

Sec. 10-44. - Placement and location; Garbage, rubble, trash, rubbish, and debris shall not be placed at curbside for collection prior to 5:00 P.M. of the day prior to the day of collection. Garbage cans and receptacles for trash and rubbish shall be removed prior to 7:00 A.M. of the day following the day of collection. (Ord. No. 2002-27, §2(Exh. A),11-19-02)

When is heavy trash day houston

HEAVY TRASH: Tree waste is picked up on odd numbered months and Junk waste on even numbered, on the fourth Thursdays of the month. No Junk waste will be picked up on Tree waste only days.

RECYCLING: Pick up is every other Friday. City of Houston legal yard bags and tied bundled limbs should be picked up EVERY Friday. Yard clippings, leaves, weeds and bundles, no longer than 3’ and not heavier than 50 lbs.

Acceptable Recycling Items:

METAL and CANS: Aluminum and Tin Cans (rinsed drained)

PLASTICS: Plastic Containers #1 – 5 and 7 (rinsed drained)

CARDBOARD and CARTONS: Carton – Cardboard boxes and cartons from items such as milk, juice, soup, crackers, cream, beans, water, broth, wine, etc.

PAPER: Paper. Newspaper, Catalogs, Magazines and Phone Books

GLASS: Effective immediately, glass is accepted in the green curbside recycling bin.

Heavy Trash – Tree Waste:

“Tree Waste” is defined as “clean” wood waste such as tree limbs, branches, and stumps. Lumber, furniture, and treated wood will NOT be accepted.

Junk Waste may NOT be placed for collection during a Tree Waste month.

Heavy Trash – Junk Waste:

“Junk Waste” is defined as items such as furniture, appliances, and other bulky material. 

Tree Waste is accepted during Junk Waste Months; however, to ensure your Tree Waste is recycled, you may hold your tree waste materials until the next Tree Waste designated month or take it to a Neighborhood Depository/Recycling Center.
