Balancing definitely have to do especially when you change tyres. So in your case, you have to do do balancing and not alignment. Link to postShare on other sitesJazz2nd Gear August 13, 2008 Jazz

If you found your driving on a straight road drifting to 1 side, then you need to do alignment. ===========================
Alignment consists of 3 items. Castor, camber & toe-in/out.
Not necessary the car will pull to one side if any 1 of these r out. A good computerised 4 wheel alignment wil check all these & put them right if possible. Then your car is travelling straight & true as per manufacturers requirments.
Changing rims and/or tires, it is advisable to do a computersied 4 wheel alignment just to make sure the new set is tracking the road properly.
Some tire shops say no need lah but remember if the alignment is out, your tires wear out faster & guess who wil make more $$$ from u then. Link to postShare on other sitesKen_leong2nd Gear August 13, 2008 Ken_leong

September 7, 2008 If you do not know your original alignment specs (ie before you changed tyres and rims) it's good to do an alignment.
It might be good for people who intend to change their tyres/rims anytime soon to LOOK at your own old tires and see how the wear is like. The wear pattern of the 4 tires are visual clues to your alignment and from there you can decide whether an alignment is necessary after a wheel/tire change. Do you need alignment after new rims?If you did not alter any suspension components you will not need an alignement. If your previous tires were wearing unevenly, then I would recommend getting an alignement once you install your new wheels.
Does changing wheels affect alignment? When the tire size is different from the factory, a car's alignment will need to be adjusted after a tire change. This is because tires that are wider or taller than original equipment tires stretch the suspension slightly and cause changes in camber and caster angles, as well as toe angles.
