The Origin Story

He was born in 1965 in Washington, DC, United States, as Vance R. Oldes. He grew up in Fort Washington.

He attended Eugene Burroughs junior high school.

He was smoking marijuana at the age of 12 and admitted to being addicted and could not go one day without it.

At this point in his life, a lot of his family members were smoking weed, so Oldes thought of it as socially acceptable in his childhood community.

He recalls that time in his life, he struggled with unstable emotions because he self-medicated with marijuana regularly, which only made things worse.

Bishop Vance played sports throughout school, which helped, but he found himself doing drugs after practice with his friends.

Things changed for the better in the ninth grade when his father moved the family to North Carolina, where he owned and operated a funeral home.

This business eventually went under because there was not enough business, so they packed up again and moved back to Fort Washington.

Bishop Oldes didn’t spend much time there until he up and left for Siouxland, Maryland.

Moving to LA

He started to play the drums and keyboard when he returned, and he was so good that he received a music scholarship from a local high school which would be an entryway into Harvard University.

He decided not to take that route but instead, to form a band with his cousin and friend.

They flew to LA to get Stevie Wonder to agree to be their executive producer.

While they were in the studio recording their first album, he was selling drugs on the side to make money. It would turn out he got arrested and served time for his crime.

Following his release, Oldes went to rehab to clean himself up.

While in treatment, his cousin was murdered, which meant his dream of becoming a famous musician was crushed.

He decided at this point to become clean of all drugs.

He stayed clean for four years until he relapsed.

While living in Washington, he sold drugs to an undercover cop and was sentenced to jail.

Life as a Preacher

It wasn’t until he was in his 30s that he attended Seminary school to become a preacher.

In 2012, Oldes furthered his education and received his Bachelor of Theology degree from the Washington Baptist Seminary.

He worked as a preacher for many years, and finally, in 2019, he was promoted into the honorary position as a Bishop in the Lord’s church.

It was initially supervised by the Temple Of Praise International Fellowship of Churches Inc’s President, Prelate Bishop Glen A. Staples.

His firey and charismatic personality elevated him to the position he is in with the millions of followers he has.

Car Accident

In 2014, Bishop Oldes was involved in a major car accident.

He was driving his car during the heavy rain, and when he hit a puddle of water at high speed, his car swerved sideways.

Oldes attempted to straighten his vehicle but doing that only made it worse. He began to twirl and spin uncontrollably.

He smashed into the road guardrail two separate times, but despite the extreme damage to his car, he was fine and walked away with minor injuries.

Bishop Oldes took to YouTube to express his gratitude to God for sparing his life and encourage his followers to appreciate life and the relationships that come with it.

He said:

“You have to cherish the people that’s in your life because your life is a vapor; you don’t know when your time is coming. I thought my life was over. This is not no little fender bender; this was a serious accident. As you’re looking at me, I got a couple of bumps and bruises and a black eye, but I don’t have no broken bones. It was nobody but God that saved me and protected me cuz I should have been gone.”

He is a preacher because he believes in the power of God and the value it has on everyone’s life.

Bishop Oldes believes that through this accident, God helped him realize and appreciate how much his wife loves him. Unfortunately, it took a nearly fatal accident for him to recognize the good he has in his life, but he recognized it, nonetheless.

He went on to explain, “God is the deliverer. He is the miracle worker. It was nobody but God. It wasn’t the intellect, my skill in driving, or how I braced myself, or anything. It was God that brought me through this, and I’m so grateful that I’m still alive to share with somebody God is real.”

He is passionate about converting his followers to followers of God as he believes he will save and protect them and cause them to be who they are.
