Let’s get started with Reels for BusinessThis isn’t designed to be a tutorial on how to create an Instagram reel – there are many tutorials out there which will teach you that perfectly. Just google “Instagram Reels” and take your pick. Problem 1 – Can’t add Music to Your Instagram Reel. Are you seeing this? Your Business account on Instagram Reels will not have music enabled. Are you watching Instagram Reels and loving the fact that you can dance away while captions do all the talking for you? I love it! But my account does not have the music feature available. Solution – Add your own musicHere are the steps to add music to your Reels in a Business account.
Problem 2 – Reels video cropped in feed-What size should Instagram Reels be?Did you create a Reel that you want to show off on your Instagram post grid too, but your video is now awkwardly cropped and bits of your captions are missing? Solution – Create to the right ratiosFirstly, here are three aspect ratios for you to remember – 9:16, 4:5 and 1:1. Instagram Reels are shot on the full size of your phone screen which is a 9:16 ratio. This works brilliantly for Stories and Reels, but when Reels embed in your Instagram feed where followers will first see them, they are displayed at 4:5 – which is why the top and bottom bits of your video are cropped off. And the thumbnail of the Reel on your grid is of course
1:1. So, while creating a Reel, leave some space on top and bottom of your screen. Don’t put any content or captions you want seen in there. Keep all the action in the centre ‘square’. Next create a cover image with your brand colours and use this as the Cover Image. Reels will give you the option of using a specific cover image. Use the cover image you’ve created instead of a screen grab from the video – the quality will likely be better too as Reels down-specs the video quality. Problem 3 – You lost your Reel while creating itYou were creating a Reel, but the baby needed a change, or the phone rang – and by the time you go back to your creative process, it has disappeared. Solution – Save your Reels draftYes! There’s a Save as Draft function which is great for pre-creating reels. Go ahead and make your Reel as usual but instead of tapping Share at the end of the process, tap Save as Draft underneath the Share button. When you are ready to share, find the draft in the Reels tab on your profile. Bonus tips for Business ReelsDon’t forget to use hashtags on your Reel to be discoverable. Make the start of your Reel really engaging, people swipe fast. Share your Reel to your Stories as well to ensure people see it. More and more people engage with Stories more than the Instagram Feed. Instagram Reels will let you measure only the basic social media metrics – likes, comments and plays. You can view views at a glance by tapping the Reels tab on your profile. Ready?
