Yaiaa track and field championships 2022

The YAIAA Track and Field Championships will be held later this afternoon at Dallastown High School. Using heat sheets to determine projected team scores expect a close battle between the South Western and Dallastown boys. The Red Lion girls enter as the favorites, but look for Susquehannock and Dallastown to challenge.

Boys Preview:

Team Race

The South Western boys will score points all over the track and in most field events. The hurdles and 4x400m will be strengths with junior Bernard Bell leading the way. He is the favorite in both the 110mH and 300mH events and runs on the Mustangs relays. Shernel Singh (jr) is the top seed in the 800 and will also look to score points in the 1600m and 4x800m along with brother Shernen. Emerson Sites-Byers (sr) is the top seed in the javelin and pairs with 4th seeded Steven Morgan to form a strong duo hoping to score significant team points for South Western in the event. Dallastown enters with an incredible sprint crew led by state 200m champion Kristian Phennicie. He’s the top seed in the 100m, 200m, and anchors their top seeded 4x100m and could also contribute on the 4x400m. The Wildcats 4x100m team could challenge the meet record in the event which currently stands at 42.43 (Dallastown, 2016). They enter with a season best time of 42.58. Freshman Michael Scott has made a name for himself in the jumps this spring. He enters YAIAAs as the top seed in the long jump and the 4th seed in the triple jump. Jakob Rager (jr) could score double digit points for Dallastown as the 4th seed in the 3200m and 5th seed in the 1600m.

Girls Preview:

Team Race

Red Lion enters YAIAAs as the pre-meet favorite based upon posted entries. They are strong on the track and in the throws. Kylynn McIntire (sr) is the top seed in both the shot put and discus and is the 3rd seed in the javelin. Sophia Breschi (sr) is the top seed in the 800m and will run on relays. Isabella Vanover (sr) is ranked #2 in the 100m and #3 in the 200m. Dajae Boardley-Wise (jr) will also score points for Red Lion in the sprints as the #4 seed in the 100m and #6 seed in the 200. Vanover and Boardley-Wise team up on the #2 ranked 4x100m relay team as well.  Susquehannock has great relays, jumps, and are strong in the long sprints and middle-distance. Ryleigh Marks (jr) will look to score big team points as the #1 seed in the 100mH, #2 seed in the long jump, and the #3 seed in the triple jump. She could also contribute on a relay. Shelby Derkosh (sr) is the 3rd seed in the 400m and will run important legs on the top ranked 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Dallastown is loaded in the distance events. They hold the top 3 seeds in the 1600m with Lydia Tolerico (sr), Victoria Rodriguez (fr), and Kailey Granger (jr). Tolerico is also the #1 seed in the 3200m and Rodriguez and Granger are the #3 and #4 seeds in the 800m.
