YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO – The 2022 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded in Youngstown on Sunday with Youngstown State women’s team setting a Horizon League record with 211 points! Youngstown State’s team on the men’s side won the League title with a score of 225.

  On the women’s side of the standings, Milwaukee (124) is currently in second behind Youngstown State. The rest of the standings have Oakland (111) in third, Purdue Fort Wayne (59) in fourth, Northern Kentucky and Robert Morris (38) tied for fifth, UIC (31) in seventh, Wright State (29) in eighth, IUPUI (12) in ninth, Detroit Mercy (9) in tenth, with Cleveland State (1) in eleventh.

  Jumping over to the men’s side, following Youngstown State is Milwaukee with 167 points. After Milwaukee is Oakland (122.5) in third, IUPUI (43) in fourth, and Detroit Mercy (42.5) rounding out the top five. Rounding out the pack is Purdue Fort Wayne (33) in sixth, UIC (18) in seventh, and Northern Kentucky (9) in eighth.

  Alfreeda Goff Indoor Track & Field Male Athlete of the Year, Sean Peterson of Youngstown State, defended his title in the men’s mile run, finishing with a time of 4:07.75. He has won the 800-meter the last four years, and this year was no different as he took home first place for the fifth time in his career with a time of 1:52.81.

— Horizon League (@HorizonLeague) February 27, 2022 Nicole Squatrito of Youngstown State not only won the women’s 800-meter race and the one-mile race, but she was also recognized as the Women’s Championship Outstanding Running Performer.

  Oakland’s Jimmie Williams had an outstanding performance as he broke the Horizon League record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.28 and he broke the Horizon League record with a time of 46.54! He was also a part of the Oakland 4x400 relay team that finished in first and set a new Horizon League record with a time of 3:10.82. His day finished with earning the recognition of Men’s Championship Outstanding Running Performer.

Carrying on from yesterday’s heptathlon start, Austin Wallace of Milwaukee finished first with a score of 4977. Wallace’s day carried on as he finished first in the men’s long jump with a WATTS record of 7.81m. He also took home a third place finish in the men’s 60m hurdles. Wallace was recognized as the Men’s Championship Outstanding Fielding Performer.

  The Women’s Running Freshman of the Year went to Ellie Voetberg of Oakland. She had two top three finishes, finishing third in both the women’s 5,000-meters and the 3,000-meters. The Men’s Running Freshman of the Year went to Eilijah Major, who placed in fourth in the men’s 60-meter dash, fifth in the men’s 200-meter dash, and was a part of Detroit Mercy’s 4x400-meter relay team. Julia Pohl of Northern Kentucky won the women’s high jump with a height of 1.73m, which propelled her to earning the Women’s Fielding Freshman of the Year. The final freshman award for the 2022 #HLTF Indoor Championships went to Elijah Nelson of Youngstown State who won the men’s pole vault.

  Starting the field events for the day was the high jump, where Terron Taylor of Youngstown State won for the men with a height of 2.11m. Jumping over to the triple jump, Nia Williams-Mathews of Youngstown State won the women’s competition with a distance of 12.29m. Jakari Lomax of Youngstown State won the triple jump on the men’s side with a jump of 15.14m. In the final field event of the championship, Lauren Lietzke of Milwaukee won the women’s shot put with a throw of 14.27m. Milwaukee’s Gracien Jules won the men’s shot put throwing 17.60m.

  The men’s 60-meter hurdles champion was Milwaukee’s Sam Conger. Lynsey Shipley of Northern Kentucky won the women’s 400-meter dash with a time of 55.31.

  Dashing our way through the events lead us to the 60-meter dash, where Youngstown State’s Jahniya Bowers won on the women’s side with a time of 7.33. Bowers also took first place in the women’s 200-meter dash with a finish of 23.99. On the men’s side of the 60-meter dash, Anthony Woods of Youngstown State won with a time of 6.78.

  In the final individual event of the championship, Morgan Cole of Youngstown State won the women’s 3,000-meter race with a time of 17:01.13. On the men’s side, Oakland’s Connor Goetz won the event with a time of 8:21.99.

The final event of this year’s championship was the 4x400 relay, which saw Northern Kentucky finish in first with a time of 3:48.06 for the women’s relay.

  The 2022 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded competition on Sunday, February 27.
