Enlisted Member Drives: 2016 X5 xDrive 35i Join Date: Oct 2018 Location: PA | Remote battery needs replacement Received a system alert on the gauge cluster that read "remote battery needs replacement", so I replaced the battery in the key fob. However, seems that the system doesn't automatically detect that the battery has been replaced? Is there anyway to get rid the alert message without a decoder gadget? I won't be going to my Indy shop until the spring. Any help on this would be great appreciated! |

Not exactly sure but maybe try touching the remote to your steering column. __________________ 2015 BMW X5 xDrive

First Lieutenant Drives: 2014 X5 35d Join Date: Nov 2012 Location: PA | Replacing the battery in the fob requires nothing but what he said above. you replace the battery, and the vehicle recognizes that the battery isn't low anymore. If you replaced the battery, and got the same message, the battery isn't full. __________________ 2014 X5 35d X-drive. Space Gray Metallic. Mocha Dakota Leather. |

easy. FYI the key actually fits into a small piece on the lid to help you pry it up. Attached Images

You shouldn't have to do this but it's worth a try. Sounds more like the battery might not full. Attached Images

Same here, its almost like it was timed because the remote was working just fine. I decided to replace both remotes since I had the batteries for something else anyway. Took total of 5 minutes to replace both. |
