I just had my start/stop repaired at the dealership-
they replaced some battery sensor to the time of
about $350. Drove it off the lot and it still doesn't
work. When I went back to ask they told me to
give it a week while it
“reprogram” itself.
Apparently once it learns my driving habits the
stop/start will begin to work again. This sounds
like bogus to me- has anyone heard of this???

I'm a service and parts director at a Jeep dealership. This is common. We see it frequently. This light could appear for a couple reasons. Could be that the battery isn't charged. Which you indicated that you drive frequently enough shouldn't be the case. The first generation of the aux batteries are trash. More than likely it will need replaced with a new updated one. Being an 18 and depending on milage and in service date it may or may not be covered under warranty.

I just had the aux battery replaced for the second time on my ‘18 a couple months ago. How do I know if they’ve replaced it with the updated one?

I don’t like the start and stop feature. Can I just run the car like that?
level 1
The car needs to run for a bit to charge that battery back up.

Been driving daily for an entire month. Currently just drove for 39 mins. Can't drive any further to get the memo. It's got juice.

Modern vehicles have no place being diagnosed at AutoZone.

You have spoken wisely. I will take this to heart and tell my children and their children the same.

Depends how you go about it. If you go in with the expectation of them telling you what is wrong with your vehicle, then you are correct. But they at least have the tools to pull basic codes and check battery.

This is damn near the exact mileage my 18 had its batteries fail at 4 months ago. Batteries probably aren’t fully shot, but close to it. I would assume colder temps are bringing the issue to light.

Well shit! I’m at 22k. I guess this is something I have to look forward too. I don’t drive nearly enough but most of my drives are longer than 30 mins. Hopefully that works to my advantage. 🤷♂️

Happened to me change the aux battery trust me

Yeah mine has only worked after I drove across the country, and even then it only worked during the trip and for about one day after it. Owned the jeep for 6+ months now.

That's the same issue most people in the comments are mentioning. They need to fix it. It should work as it's designed. My 2020 Jetta works 100000% of the time. Regardless of bad weather. Cold or hot.
level 2
That ain't right. Why give me two batteries when one doesn't work. Weirdly enough, this has been working for almost 6 months of ownership of the GC. I defeat it on a daily basis, but it's always worked. And then start of November comes.... Boom! It doesn't work. Wtf?! I don't need it. Or want it. I just wanna have it because I paid for it lol.

I believe grand Cherokee start stop runs off auxiliary battery, and they're notorious for needing to be full charge for the system to operate correctly. Happened with my 2017 Cherokee(although it runs off the main battery) dealer replaced battery and problem solved. Currently dealing with same thing on 2020 grand Cherokee limited x. Haven't gotten it in yet but I assume it's battery issue and will take it in soon.

Thank you. First real great help so far 👌
