Keynote Speakers
Opening General Session Keynote Speaker
Erik Wahl
Erik Wahl, an internationally recognized artist, TED speaker and bestselling
business author, will create a multidimensional experience encouraging attendees to embrace innovation, risk and change. During Wahl’s high-energy performance, he will discuss how disruption is the new normal and why businesses and individuals must embrace creativity in a wholesale fashion or risk being left behind. He will inspire attendees to help make their organizations more agile and outline how to use disruption as a competitive advantage within the health care system.
Wahl will
incorporate his on-stage painting to seamlessly serve as a visual metaphor for the core of his message — demonstrating the possibility of profitability through innovation and superior performance. As the author of several books, including UNthinkTM, and his latest, The Spark and the Grind, Wahl will challenge NPs to embrace the mental discipline of actionable creativity. During this transformative keynote, Wahl’s passion for professional growth and art will converge into a fascinating
performance, inspiring NPs to enthusiastically embrace the changes and challenges that are sure to come with the future of health care delivery.
Closing General Session Keynote Speaker
Martin Luther King III
Global humanitarian Martin Luther King III is a preeminent thought leader, civil rights advocate and solutions-oriented
proponent of social change. As the oldest son of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mrs. Coretta Scott King, he amplifies his father’s work to eradicate racism, violence and poverty worldwide. King has devoted his life to promoting human rights and shepherding the healing of our nation — and the world. He will help conference attendees connect important lessons from the past with the critical needs of our future and empower them to be champions of positive change for their patients and
within their communities. King will deliver his inspirational message on equality and peace, encouraging NPs to continue leading efforts to address social determinants of health — especially those related to racism, poverty and violence.
With a focus on continuing the King legacy through education, action, engagement with world leaders and collaboration with socially conscious organizations, King and his wife Arndrea lead the Drum Major Institute, a nonprofit organization, think tank and
community action group established in the 1960s. King is the recipient of numerous awards and honorary degrees, including one of India's most prestigious honors for outstanding contributions to the promotion of human rights.

“While I believe that all conferences are really important, I think this one is extremely important because of the policy issues and our strength in numbers. We need to know what's going on nationally. The national legislators in Washington need to know what our needs are. And, really, the only way to do that is through the AANP.”
- Mary K.-P., New York, Member since 2010
