H friends, just wanted to share something I observed this morning. Based on my search of the archives, this topic has come up periodically, but I figured I would post about it again since there are always new folks coming into this subreddit.

Anywho, after a couple months of dinking around, I got back on the keto and CICO train pretty hard, trying to lose my last 20 pounds or so. Last week, I was eating a ton of "Pizzadillas," with the La Tortilla Factory low carb tortillas, and the weight was flying off. I then ran out of those and was at a store that didn't carry them, and instead bought the Mission Carb Balance tortillas.

Well, I had one of those tortillas two days ago, and woke up yesterday a pound heavier, after a week straight of very steady losses and/or maintaining. Then I had two of the tortillas yesterday, and woke up this morning 2.5 pounds up. I had also noticed that after eating only two "Pizzadillas" yesterday I felt very "bloaty full," which is not a feeling I ever get when eating real keto food, even if I overeat on it.

So, I decided to look at the label a bit closer on the Mission tortilla, and the calories don't add up. 210 calories, 45 from fat, 36 from protein, and only six net carbs? That adds up to only 105 calories, exactly half of the amount of the calories it says are in the tortilla.

I then looked at the ingredients, and saw that both modified wheat starch and whole wheat flour are listed before the gluten and shortening, which isn't what I would expect from a food that claims to have so few net carbs.

So I think that the label on these is simply incorrect, and that they actually are closer to 30 net carbs, even though the unofficial, "advertisey" label says they are including the 26 grams of fiber in their count of 32 total carbs.

YMMV with these of course, and I think there are probably a lot of people able to achieve their goals while still consuming these, but I am going back to my La Tortilla Factory tortillas and my consistent results with those. If you are experiencing setbacks while also consuming the Mission ones, they could very well be the culprit.
