As of Labor Day, there are no fees to get onto the beach. 

The following beaches will be guarded on September 17th and September 18th from 9am- 5pm (weather permitting)

This is for municipal beaches only and does not apply to Seven Presidents (North of Seaview Avenue).

Accessibility:

  • Stairs: Brighton Avenue, West End Avenue, Cottage Avenue, South Bath Avenue, North Bath Avenue, Pavilion Avenue, Morris Avenue, Chelsea Avenue (2 entrances), Great Lawn and Seaview Avenue.
  • Sand Ramps: Beachfront North , Madison Avenue, Laird Street, Melrose Place and Morris Avenue
  • ADA Compliant Ramps: Morris Ave. N, Chelsea Avenue, Pavilion Avenue, North Bath Avenue, Cottage Place and West End Avenue
  • A limited number of Surf Chairs and Water Chairs are available for use. Please speak with any ticket booth representative or call the Beach Office at 732-571-5697 for assistance.

Ass9/7/22: The 2022 Summer Beach Season is now closed. Lifeguards are no longer on duty. Please, no swimming. Please check back in the spring for 2023 Summer Beach Season information. 

Asbury Park's mile of sand and water has been drawing surfers, swimmers, sunbathers, fishers, and people-watchers for centuries. The Asbury Park Boardwalk is home to mini golf, music, playgrounds, restaurants, retail, water parks, and more.

2022 Summer Beach Season

Beach passes (badges or wristbands) will be required to access Asbury Park Beaches from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend as follows:

  • Starting Saturday, 5/28/22 at 9am through Sunday, 6/12/22, Weekends and Holidays Only
  • Starting Monday, 6/13/22 through Monday, 9/5/22, Every Day (Weekdays, Weekends, Holidays)

Beach passes will not be required to access the beach starting Tuesday, 9/6/22. Based on weather and staffing availability, lifeguards may still be on duty after Labor Day Weekend. 

Beach Hours & Safety

  • Monday to Friday: 9am to 5pm
  • Weekends and Holidays: 9am to 6pm

During these hours there will be lifeguards on duty, and buoys and ropes marking off the areas for swimming. Keep an eye out for the safe conditions flag: if the water is rough, follow lifeguard instructions to leave the water. Please do not swim when lifeguards are not on duty.

Boardwalk Policies

  • Walk your bike. Bicycles are not allowed on the Boardwalk from 10am to Midnight.  
  • Skates, rollerblades, skateboards, and scooters (except handicap vehicles) are not permitted on the Boardwalk.
  • Dogs are not permitted on the Boardwalk from May 16 through September 14.
  • No chairs, towels/blankets, etc are permitted on the Boardwalk.

2022 Beach Pass Rates & Purchasing Information

Daily Rates

  • Monday to Friday: $6
  • Weekends and Holidays: $9

Seasonal Rates

  • Adults: $70
  • Seniors (62-plus with valid ID): $20
  • Teens (13 to 17): $20
  • Kids 12 and under: Free (adult supervision required)
  • Active Military Personnel and their dependents: Free
  • Retired Veterans, Disabled Veterans and Non-Active Veterans: Free

Purchase Season Beach Badges on the Viply Mobile App or at the Beach Office

  • Children 12 and under are free and do not need a beach pass to access the beach, but must be supervised by an adult.
  • Limit four (4) season beach badges per person.
  • Senior and teen season beach badges can be purchased at a discounted rate. ID showing proof of age must be presented at time of transaction. Please note, teen season beach badges can be purchased without ID but will be checked upon entry to the beach.
  • No refunds will be given for season beach badges for any reason. 
  • Season badges are not replaceable if lost or stolen.
  • Viply

    • Season beach badges are available for purchase through the Viply mobile app (www.viplypass.com)
    • Each app user is permitted to purchase a maximum of four (4) season beach badges.
    • Physical badges can be picked up once the Beach Office opens on May 1 - simply scan in with your Viply app. See below for hours.
  • Beach Office

    • Beach Office Hours:
      - May 1 through June 12 from 10am to 4pm daily
      - June 13 through Labor Day from 9am to 5pm daily
    • Sales must be made by credit card only. No cash transactions.

Purchase Daily Beach Passes on Viply Mobile App, at Beach Office or 7th Avenue Beach Booth 

  • Daily beach passes can only be used for the day they are purchased.
  • Children under 12 are free and do not need a beach pass to access the beach, but must be supervised by an adult.
  • No refunds for daily passes will be given for any reason.
  • Viply

    • Daily beach passes will be available for purchase through the Viply mobile app each day at 6:30pm for the following day only (www.viplypass.com)
    • Each app user is permitted to purchase a maximum of four (4) daily beach passes each day.
    • For any Viply purchases of daily passes, please visit the Beach Office, any Beach Booth or Gate Guard and simply scan in your app to receive a wristband that is valid for the day. 
  • Beach Office and 7th Avenue Beach Booth

    • Daily passes may also be purchased at the Beach Office or at the 7th Avenue Beach Booth. Sales must be made credit card only. No cash transactions.

New Jersey Transit Beach Package

  • Purchase the NJ Transit Beach Package for special discounts on your beach badge when you purchase a round-trip train ticket at any NJ Transit Rail Station or ticket vending machine. For more information, visit New Jersey Transit. https://www.njtransit.com/tickets/deals-and-discounts 

Beach Passes for Active Military Personnel and Veterans

  • Active Military Personnel and their dependents, will be admitted free of charge
  • Retired, Disabled and Non-Active Veterans will be admitted free of charge
  • Active Military Personnel and Veterans must present a Uniformed Services ID Card or an Award Letter from the Department of Veteran Affairs at the Beach Office located at 1st Avenue and the Boardwalk, or the 3rd Avenue Ticket Booths on the Boardwalk in exchange for free daily passes

Public Restrooms, Showers, Water Fountains

  • Restroom locations:
    First Avenue, Fourth Avenue, Asbury Park Convention Hall, Seventh Avenue and Deal Lake Drive
  • Restroom Hours:
    • Convention Hall: 6am to midnight, daily, year round
    • 1st Avenue, 4th Avenue, 7th Avenue, Deal Lake Drive:
      • Saturday, 5/28/22 through Sunday, 6/12/22, 8am to 8pm on Weekends and Holidays Only
      • Monday, 6/13/22 through Monday, 9/5/22, 8am to 8pm Every Day 
  • Beach showers are available at most beach entrances. 
  • Water fountains are available along the Boardwalk. Water bottle refilling stations are available at the 7th Avenue and Deal Lake Drive restroom entrances.

Beach Umbrella and Chair Rentals 

  • Beach umbrellas and chairs will be available to rent daily from 10am to 5pm, weather permitting, through Labor Day. After Labor Day, rentals may be available on weekends through September, weather permitting. Rentals are available at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th Avenue entrances on a first come/first served basis.
  • Rental fee: Weekdays $10/umbrella, $10/chair; Weekends and Holidays $15/umbrella, $15/chair. Cash payments only at all rental locations. Credit card payments accepted at Park Beach by Style Rocket located on the Boardwalk at First Avenue.

Handicap and WaterWheels Adaptive Chairs

A limited number of handicap beach chairs are available. Request handicap chairs and assistance at any ticket booth.

Free Beach Playgrounds

Playgrounds are located at 2nd and 7th Avenues and are free of charge. You do not need a beach pass to access the playgrounds.

Beach Lockers

  • Due to overwhelming demand, the beach locker wait list is currently at capacity and is closed. No new applications will be accepted until further notice and no exceptions can be made. Please note, wait list applications will not be accepted for the 2022 season -- please check back next year.
  • Beach storage lockers are available for rent to season beach badge holders on a first come/first served basis. Lockers are available for use starting the Friday of Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day and must be emptied by the Tuesday after Labor Day. The rate is $225.
  • For questions, email . Please note the beach locker wait list is currently closed, no new applications will be accepted until further notice and no exceptions can be made. Please note, wait list applications will not be accepted for the 2022 season -- please check back next year. For those already on the extensive wait list, the average wait for a locker is 5 approximately years. Due to the volume of inquiries, we are not able to respond to all emails regarding the wait list.

Surfing Beach

The area between the jetties on Deal Lake Drive and Eighth Avenue is a surfing-only beach (no swimming is permitted):

Surf Lessons & Surf Camp

Summertime Surf, located on the beach between Eighth Avenue and Deal Lake Drive, offers surf lessons and surf camp. For information, visit www.summertimesurf.com.

Fishing

  • Asbury is home to the Asbury Park Fishing Club, the country’s oldest saltwater fishing club. Before you start reeling in the big catches, you are required to register with the New Jersey Saltwater Registry.
  • Fishing is prohibited near bathing areas.

Rules & Regulations

Beach & Boardwalk Regulations

  • Asbury Park Beaches & Boardwalk are smoke-free (NJ State Law).
  • Alcohol and glass containers are prohibited.
  • Small personal coolers are permitted (no alcohol, no glass permitted).
  • Persons suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol shall be prohibited from entering the water.
  • Flotation devices are not permitted in the water.
  • Please walk your bikes. Bicycle riding is not permitted on the Boardwalk north of Convention Hall. Bicycling riding is not permitted on the Boardwalk south of Convention hall from 10am to Midnight.  (Ordinance 5-4.9)
  • Skates, rollerblades, skateboards, and scooters (except handicap vehicles) are not permitted on the Boardwalk.
  • Closed tents larger than 30in H x 48in W x 36in D are not permitted.
  • Canopies and umbrellas larger than 6ft H X 6ft W are not permitted. Canopies without a central pole are not permitted.
  • All children in diapers must wear plastic pants with tight-fitting waist and leg bands. Do not wash out diapers in the bathing water.
  • Children should be encouraged to use the restroom before entering the water. Immediately report any accidents to the lifeguard.
  • Do not enter the water if you are experiencing or recovering from diarrhea or having any signs or symptoms of gastrointestinal (stomach) disease in the last seven days.
  • Conduct that endangers the safety and comfort of others shall be prohibited.
  • Outdoor bathing shall be prohibited during an electrical storm.
  • Fires are not permitted on the beach without a Special Events and Fire permit.

Dog RegulationsPlease note: dogs are not permitted on any portion of Asbury Park Beaches other than the Asbury Park Dog Beach at any time. See below for Asbury Park Dog Beach hours.

From May 16 to September 14 
Dogs are not permitted on the Boardwalk. Dogs in Asbury Park can enjoy the Asbury Park Dog Beach during specified hours.

  • AP BOARDWALK: Dogs are not permitted on the Boardwalk from May 16 to September 14.
  • AP DOG BEACH: Dogs that are licensed and supervised are allowed on the Asbury Park Dog Beach May 16 to September 14 in the evenings and early mornings from 6 p.m. to 8:30 a.m only. Dogs MUST be off the beach by 8:30 a.m. To help protect our beaches, please keep dogs off dunes. Dogs may be off leash on the Asbury Park Dog Beach if properly supervised. Dogs that become aggressive or uncontrollable MUST be immediately leashed and removed from the area. Use the Deal Lake Drive beach entrance or the entrance at the north end of Fisherman’s Parking Lot to access the Asbury Park  Dog Beach – do not use the 8th Avenue entrance from the Boardwalk. Dog handlers must always and immediately clean up after their dogs.

From September 15 through May 15 
 Dogs in Asbury Park can enjoy the boardwalk and Asbury Park Dog Beach.

  • AP BOARDWALK: Dogs that are licensed, supervised, and leashed are welcome on the Boardwalk at all times from September 15 to May 15. Dogs MUST be leashed at all times while on the boardwalk.
  • AP DOG BEACH: PLEASE NOTE: Dogs that are licensed and supervised are allowed on the Asbury Park Dog Beach at all times from September 15 to May 15. To help protect our beaches, please keep dogs off dunes. Dogs may be off leash on the Asbury Park Dog Beach if properly supervised. Dogs that become aggressive or uncontrollable MUST be immediately leashed and removed from the area. Use the Deal Lake Drive beach entrance or the entrance at the north end of Fisherman’s Parking Lot to access the Asbury Park Dog Beach – do not use the 8th Avenue entrance from the Boardwalk. Dog handlers must always and immediately clean up after their dogs.

Please Remember:

  • Dogs are not permitted on any portion of Asbury Park Beaches other than the Asbury Park Dog Beach. See above for Asbury Park Dog Beach hours.
  • Dog owners must always and immediately clean up after their dogs. Violators are subject to summonses and fines up to $1,000.
  • All dogs must wear collars with valid dog licenses.
  • All dogs must be on a leash (unless in the designated off-leash area on the Asbury Park Dog Beach).
  • Dog owners must remain with their dogs and supervise their dogs at all times. 
  • Dog handlers are strictly liable for any incidents that occur involving their dogs.

Lost and Found

  • For items lost or misplaced on the beach or along the boardwalk, if the item is of value (wallet or purse, keys, cell phone, etc.) and it is turned into a Lifeguard or Asbury Park Beach Employee, they are turned over to the Asbury Park Police department. We do not have a central storage area for lost and found items. APPD can be reached at 732-774-1300.
  • Items left on the beach such as beach chairs, umbrellas, blankets, etc. are disposed of at the end of the beach day.
