If you are trying to figure out how to replace the battery in your Honeywell thermostat, you have come to the right place.

Honeywell thermostats are popular thermostats that regulate the temperature of your home using a combination of AC power and battery power. These thermostats connect with air conditioning and heating units to control when they’re activated. In the summer, thermostats regulate temperature and humidity by activating the air conditioning, and in the winter thermostats regulate temperature by activating heating units like furnaces.

If you have a Honeywell thermostat you have to replace the batteries at some point. Even if your Honeywell thermostat only uses the batteries to control temporary AC power interruptions they need to be changed at least once every two years. For models that use batteries as the primary source of power, you’ll have to change the batteries more frequently.

That said, we’re going to take you through everything you need to know about Honeywell thermostats and provide you with steps to change the batteries for each model. Read on to learn more!

Knowing When to Change a Honeywell Thermostat Battery

Changing your Honeywell thermostat’s batteries is an important part of owning a Honeywell thermostat. If you fail to change the batteries and there is an interruption to the AC power you can damage the thermostat or have it temporarily stop working. Therefore, you need to change your thermostat’s batteries when needed.

Most Honeywell thermostats alert you when the battery needs to be changed. The alert comes around 60 days before batteries need to be replaced. Many Honeywell models display battery levels on the LED screen, so you can also use that for reference.

Even if your Honeywell thermostat only uses batteries as a backup source of power, you need to change them when the batteries begin to lose power.

What Type of Battery Does a Honeywell Thermostat Have?

Honeywell thermostats typically run on a combination of AC power and AA or AAA batteries. Most Honeywell thermostats use AC power as the primary power supply and draw energy from batteries if there is an issue with the AC power supply. This is why many thermostats have batteries that last for months and years.

What You’ll Need to Replace a Honeywell Thermostat Battery

There are many Honeywell Thermostat models, so you need to know which one you have before grabbing tools and getting started. While you’ll only need a screwdriver and replacement batteries for the replacement part, finding the model number is trickier. That said, a Honeywell thermostat model number will look like this: TH1210DV (the model number for a Honeywell thermostat in the 1000 series).

You can follow these steps to locate the model number of your Honeywell thermostat:

  1. Isolate the circuit to avoid getting shocked if your Honeywell thermostat is connected to your home’s main circuit.
  2. Remove the thermostat from the baseplate. We recommend pulling from the bottom on some models if you’re having trouble to avoid damaging the pins that hold it in place.
  3. Look for the model number on the side or back of the thermostat.
  4. Place the thermostat back on the wall.

If you follow these steps you can find the model number for your Honeywell thermostat. Finding the model number will help you determine which product you have and what instructions you need to follow to replace the battery.
