Long Wait For A 2022

I spoke with my longtime salesman friend (I have ordered 12 F150's from him over the past 25 years) yesterday and he said if I order a 2022 it will be a 5 to 6 month wait for delivery. Used to be on average 7 to 8 weeks. I asked him if he had any 2022 on the lot I might be interested in and he said he only had four. I will probably order the end of this month.

I ordered one on Feb 2. I got a price on my trade-in which can't go down but could go up (fat chance). Of course they will evaluate my truck at the time of the trade. We stipulated in the contract I would not put down a down payment - and when the truck comes in I could refuse to take it.

Yep...I'd say that he's correct. I'm in Texas and I ordered a Lariat this past Saturday. I was told to expect 16 to 20 weeks until delivery. When I initially spoke to my sales guy back in October, I was told that if I ordered then, I'd probably have the truck around Christmas or New Years.

If they have four on the lot that aren't already spoken for, that's pretty good. The dealer I use has some new ones on the lot but they have already been sold or are custom orders awaiting pick-up by the customer. These supply chain issues are for the frickin' birds! I hope everyone has learned that there are just some things you can't shut down regardless of what is going on.

For what it is worth, I placed an order Feb. 12 - it arrived today (DFW). That may seem like a long wait but in full disclosure, I ordered a regular cab, 4x4 XLT with the 6' 7" bed in Antimatter Blue with Buckskin Interior. (Yes, I am bragging a little. Sue me, my new truck arrived today and I dare you to find 12 jurors who would convict me for it.) Point is, my truck is sort of a strange duck by today's truck standards, so I would lay odds you can get most any super cab in less time.

Now, since this is my first post (first Ford F-150 too) where is the "Hey, I am new here" forum? BTW - Hey, I am new here.

Hmmm...lucky you!! I just received ANOTHER email stating my build date has been pushed back to at least July 25th now. This is the 4th time they've pushed it back so far. I have no plans on abandoning my order...I've already placed $1000 down and my dealer has guaranteed me either 0% financing for 60 months or 1.9% for 72 months. If I go somewhere else, I'm sure the interest rate will be higher and then I'll be at the end of the line again...regardless of the manufacturer...then again, I'm a hardcore Ford fan so I'm staying put.

I wonder if you're right...I just received another notice last night that it's been pushed to August 8th now. Gotta admit that it's getting a bit old now.

Wow, that would be annoying. I don't know how I would feel/react if they had pushed my build. I was not in a hurry, I am keeping my little car for my teenager and she has not taken the test yet so I was just happy to know I would have the option. In fact, a buddy of mine kept teasing me asking when HIS truck was going to be ready to drive. I think he had a more vested interest that I did . . . until I got the notice if was built. At that moment, it changed.

Yea...it is annoying, that's for sure. I haven't really been in much of a rush to get it but now it's just frustrating and at the current rate, I'm guessing that I won't have it until the Oct/Nov timeframe now. I have no idea why it's been pushed back so many times but I'm sure it all has to do with the current supply chain issues. My dealer told me that the more "bells and whistles" you option it with, the longer it'll take to get it. I was going to do the factory spray-on bed liner but they said that could/would add as many as 3 months to the delivery time. They said wait until it comes in and they will send it out for a Line-X liner for the same price when it gets here, In the end, I really didn't want a lot on the truck. I knew I wanted the 4x4 Lariat with the 502A package though and I knew I wanted 3 major items on it...the 3.5L PowerBoost Hybrid motor...BlueCruise...and the 7.2kW generator/inverter. Those are the things I optioned the truck with. I did put a tow package on it but I think that's a minor option compared to my main needs/wants. It's just hard for me to imagine that those 3 main things are what's really holding it up.

This is not looking good for Ford Motor Co. I actually feel bad for the salesmen. I put in my contract "No down payment" because if this new F150 takes too long I just might go for a Chevy. I also put in the contract that "I could refuse to take the truck". I don't want to pay top dollar for a year-old truck. When it comes in I just might refuse it and order a 2023.

I must be more lucky than I knew. My dealer just wanted a photo of my DL and a signature saying I was ordering. They let spec it out and I put down zero, made no commitment other than I want it. I was more concerned they would back out of the order than they were of my backing out. I was told up front that if it arrived and did not meet my expectations they would find another buyer and we could all remain friends. Even as I had pen in hand to write the check I joked "Is it too late to back out?" and the sales manager was serious when he said "no we will be happy to put it into inventory."

I don't have any plans to back out of the deal at this point...would just like for the truck to get built and shipped here to central Texas. If I backed out, I'd have to start all over again and I'm told that Chevy/GMC and Toyota wait times are about the same as Ford's right now. I really have zero interest in Ram and don't know what their wait times are...just not a Mopar truck fan. I have a second vehicle to drive though...albeit, it's supposed to be my "weekend toy vehicle" but I'm just racking up the miles on it and it requires premium gas but, such is life right now. One of the reasons I ordered/bought when I did was that I could see interest rates going up fast and considerably higher than they were back in March. So far, I'm correct on that. The deal I have in writing from my dealership...regardless of how long it takes to get here...is guaranteed 0% financing for 60 months or 1.9% for 72 months and none of the "Market Adjustment" crap added to the MSRP that some dealers like to pull on hard to get vehicles. Whenever this truck arrives, I think that it's gonna be pretty difficult to find financing at those guaranteed rates that I have anytime in the near future pretty much anywhere with the way things are going. I did put $1000 down on it though but I was told by more than one dealer in my area that Ford began requiring that so they knew it was a "true customer" order and not the dealership just trying to replenish their inventory. Evidently, that has been a problem for the past year or so now. Anyway...I was happy to do it because I wanted the truck. Even if 2023 rolls around or comes close to it, I don't think I'd order the truck any differently and I don't believe that Ford is planning on any major changes or cosmetic make-overs again until the 2025 model year.

@ Pukcip -- and you're right about the salesmen -- they aren't making their commissions until the trucks are delivered and "officially sold." My salesman told me this evening that it was gonna be a rough month for him and that he'd be "eating crackers" this month. He's had several customers' orders...like 7 or 8 so far in June he said...pushed further out. Mine hasn't been the only one.

I can certainly understand Ford requiring a deposit to confirm it is a real sale. I was in Arkansas several weeks back, I bumped into a couple, we started talking and the guy was a salesman at the local Ford dealership. I asked if they had any inventory - he told me straight up that they were slim but had some and more on the way and then he just asked me if I was willing to help out and place an order - "no commitment, no money I just need you to tell me you want it so Ford will send me something."

This was a dealer/salesman I had just met. So, pretty sure he had already made that request to every family member and friend and there is no way he was the only one.

I contracted Covid in July. I was sick as a dog and spent 4 days in the hospital. They diagnosed a blood clot in my left leg, pneumonia, and a blood clot in my right lung. And during the 4 hospital days I had a heart attack. Covid tried to kill me. Later when home my salesman called and said my new truck was delivered. I told him I didn't know when I would be able to pick it up. He said he would, "hold, sell, or deliver to my home". I told him to sell and later I'll order a 2023.
