Check out other : If you’re anything like me, you’re going to want to balance your enjoyment of Jack Daniel’s with ensuring you don’t take in too many extra calories, carbs and sugars. That’s why I decided to research how many of each are in Jack Daniel’s whiskeys and here’s what I found. There are 98 calories, 0g of carbs and 0g of sugars in a 1.5fl oz shot of Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7. These numbers will change if your drink is a different size or a different Jack Daniel’s whiskey with a different ABV. And fortunately, I’ve worked them all out for you. If you or somebody you know loves whiskey then you might like:
The number of calories in Jack Daniel’s depends on two factors:
Obviously, the bigger the drink the more calories it will have, but a higher alcohol content (ABV) level will also increase its number of calories because alcohol is a source of calories – and in Jack Daniel’s the only source of calories. To learn how to work out the number of calories in whiskey, see my in-depth article about it here. To see the number of calories in all types of Jack Daniel’s whiskeys of all drink sizes without having to do all that work, read on. The Number of Calories in A Shot of Jack Daniel’sThe following table shows the number of calories in the ten main Jack Daniel’s whiskeys for a 1fl oz and 1.5fl oz shot.
As you can see from the table above, both drink size and ABV can make a significant difference to the number of calories in your drink. A 1fl oz shot obviously has only two thirds of the calories of a 1.5fl oz shot, and in the other direction, a Jack Daniel’s with a 5% higher ABV has 12 more calories. The Barrel Proof Jack Daniel’s can have almost twice as many calories as the Old No. 7! The Number of Calories in A Drink of Jack Daniel’sMany people like to drink Jack Daniel’s neat. The standard size for a neat pour is 2fl oz. The following table shows the number of calories in the ten main Jack Daniel’s whiskeys for a 2fl oz neat pour.
The Number of Calories in A Bottle of Jack Daniel’sSome people like to know how many calories there are in a whole bottle of Jack Daniel’s. Once again, it depends on the Jack Daniel’s whiskey and this time, the size of the bottle. The following table shows the number of calories in the ten main Jack Daniel’s whiskeys for both a 750ml and 1L bottle.
The Number of Carbs in Jack Daniel’sThere are no carbs in any Jack Daniel’s whiskeys. That’s because all the carbs in the ingredients used to make Jack Daniel’s are removed during the whiskey making process. Interestingly, the main ingredient of Jack Daniel’s which is grain, contains a lot of carbs. However, during fermentation, sugars which are carbs, that were extracted from the grain’s starches which are also carbs, are mixed with yeast which is about half carbs, to convert them into alcohol which is not carbs. Since most of the carbs in grain are starches, by this point in the whiskey making process most of the carbs will have been removed by being converted into alcohol. The remaining non-starch carbs in the grain and yeast are removed during the distillation process. This is when the alcohol is vaporized so that it can be concentrated and condensed, but this also separates it from everything else including the remaining carbs. This is important because if you’re avoiding carbs because it’s a source of calories, you won’t be doing that here since the carbs have been transformed into alcohol which is an even greater source of calories – there are only four calories for 1g of carbs but seven calories for 1g of alcohol. That doesn’t mean you’re now consuming more calories. You need more than 1g of carbs to make 1g of alcohol, so in the conversion you do end up with less calories. What it does mean is that in this case, zero carbs doesn’t mean zero calories. This also explains why three Jack Daniel’s whiskeys do contain carbs. The Tennessee Honey, Tennessee Fire and Tennessee Apple are a blend of Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 and Jack Daniel’s Honey, Fire or Apple liqueur (technically, because they’re only 35%ABV and contain caramel coloring they’re not whiskeys but more of a whiskey drink). That’s why even though they have a lower ABV than the Old No. 7, they have more calories. The following table shows the number of carbs in the three Jack Daniel’s whiskey liqueur drinks for a 1.5fl oz shot, a 2fl oz neat pour and a 750ml bottle.
The Amount of Sugar in Jack Daniel’sSince sugar is a carb and since there are no carbs in Jack Daniel’s, there are also no sugars in Jack Daniel’s whiskeys. Only the three Jack Daniel’s whiskey liqueur drinks that do have carbs (from the liqueur part of the drink), contain sugars. The following table shows the number of sugars in the three Jack Daniel’s whiskey liqueur drinks for a 1.5fl oz shot, a 2fl oz neat pour and a 750ml bottle.
As you can see, the amount of sugar is the same as the number of carbs, which means that the only carbs in the Jack Daniel’s whiskey liqueur drinks, are sugars. Useful Whiskey Links
