Want to know how to put two pictures side by side on an iPhone? You can't do this through the default gallery app. You will have to either use the Shortcuts app or a third-party application. Most of these apps have free trial periods.

I wanted to combine two of my favorite photos for my Facebook profile picture and was able to do this through the shortcuts app. I've discussed how you can do this with the program, as well as the other applications that are available.

How Do You Combine Pictures Side to Side On an iPhone?

There are 3 different ways to do this, and I've discussed them in-depth below:

Method 1: Use The Siri Shortcuts App

Although you can't use the iPhone Photos app to combine pictures, you can use the built-in Shortcuts app instead.

Before I show you how to use the Shortcuts app, know that you need to have at least iOS 12 installed to make use of the feature.

Here is how you update iOS:

• Go to Settings > General > Software Updates
• Tap Install Now if you see a firmware file available

After that's done, follow these steps:

• Open the "Shortcuts" app and tap on tap on the plus "+" icon while in the "My Shortcuts" tab.
• Select "Add Action" and search for "Select Photos"

• Tap on "Select Photos: and toggle on the "Select Multiple" option
• Search for "Combine Images" using the search bar at the bottom.

• Tap on "Combine Images" and check if it says "Horizontally". If this is not the case, then tap on the present word and select "Horizontally". You can also use the arrow to adjust the space between your photos
• Now search for "Save to Photo Album" and tap on it from the search results.
• After this, name your shortcut using the box on top.

• Then tap on the blue toggle on the top right corner next to the name box and select "Add to Home Screen" and tap on "Add". This will redirect you to the Home Screen.

• Go back to the shortcuts app and tap "Done" and finally 'X" to save and exit.

• You can now use the shortcut you created on the Home Screen to combine images. Just open the shortcut and select the images you want to be merged. Then tap on "Add"
• Give it few seconds, and the merged image will get saved in the "Photos" app.

Method 2: Photo Editing Tools

As mentioned, there are third-party apps that can help. I've reviewed some of the best, as well as how to use them below.

1. Cut Paste Photos Pro

You can download Cut Paste Pro from the Apple app store on a 3-day free trial. It's a great photo collage maker, and I've used it to put pictures together a couple of times.

Here's how you use it to combine multiple photos together:

• Download and launch the application
• Choose Cut & Paste
• You can either import a photo directly from the photos app or snap one
• Tap on the background icon
• Select a picture from your gallery that you want to include into the collage. The Cut Paste Pro app has its own photo gallery where you can find pictures to include into your collage
• Tap done.

2. PhotoGrid

You will have to download PhotoGrid from the App store. It's quite customizable and comes with a 3-day free trial.

Here's how you use it to stitch pictures together:

• Search for PhotoGrid on the Apple app store and download it
• Launch the program
• If you're going to use the program's pro version, you will have to sign into either your Facebook or Gmail account
• Tap on the Grid option
• Go through your iPhone gallery and find the pictures you want to combine. You can add 15 different pictures
• Arrange the pictures that you've imported any way you want
• You can swap and adjust the imported pictures by simply tapping them and choosing the Swap button from the drop-down menu that pops up. You will have to click the grid you want it to go to
• Tap on the border option to adjust the grid
• Click Next on the upper right corner once you're satisfied
• Hit the save button and click the format you want to save the file to

3. LayOut

Do you use Instagram? You might prefer the LayOut app in that case. It was designed by the developers of the social media platform and is completely free.

Here's what you do:

• Search for the application on the App store, download and install it
• Launch the program
• On the main screen, you will see pictures from your Photos app. Import the ones that you want
• There are various layouts that you can use to combine the images. Pick one that you like
• Use the tools on the bottom of the screen to edit your combined picture
• Tap Save once you are done
• Tap Done to exit the editing screen

The combined image will automatically be sent to your iPhone's Photos app. It should be in the Recents album.

Method 3: Use Instagram

Although you might not think it, you can get the job done with Instagram's Story function as well. You probably already have an Instagram account, so you won't have to download another app and waste your storage space.

Here's what you do:

• Launch Instagram and head to the Stories section on the left-hand corner of the main page
• Open your iPhone gallery to find one picture that you want to combine
• Pinch the picture to shrink it, and place it on the left side of the story canvas
• Now, open the Photos app and find the other picture you want
• Hold it down and click Copy (it will be copied to your device's clipboard)
• Open Instagram and go back to the story you were creating
• Click the Add Sticker option that pops up
• Resize the second picture as you like.
