When the sun is shining, I automatically find myself craving icy-cold and sweet drinks. While your nearest Starbucks/coffee shop may be convenient for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up, the drinks are usually loaded with sugars, calories, unneccesary ingredients. Oh and – they’re not the cheapest to buy either.

This homemade strawberry frappuccino is far more cost-efficient and healthier to make, with all-natural ingredients and tons of customization options. I mean, why step out of your house when you can get the full Starbucks experience from home. Want to go dairy-free? No problem. Sugar free? Sure! Low fat? Okay!

The Ingredients And Variations

How to make a strawberry frappuccino without ice cream

The Milk: I used Coconut milk for this. However, you can use any of your favorite dairy-free milk options (i.e., almond milk, oat milk, etc.) or dairy milk, if preferred.

Strawberries: Use fresh or frozen strawberries.

The Sweetener: You can use maple, agave, granulated sugar or even go sugar-free and use a sweetener like erythritol. Make sure to adjust the amount of sweetener you use to your taste and depending on what you use.

My go-to is maple syrup. However, this recipe is super versatile – you can use a liquid sweetener of your choice (agave, etc) or granulated sugar. Alternatively, feel free to use a sugar-free sweetener such as erythritol.

Ice: For the slushy, frappe consistency.

The toppings: Though optional, I love mine topped with whipped cream (I use whipped coconut cream). Plus, for this strawberry frappuccino, a sprinkle of freeze-dried strawberries is also a lovely additional topping.

To Make A Strawberry Syrup (optional)

If you want to go the extra step of making a truly decadent dessert-like drink, then you can make a strawberry ‘syrup’ puree. This is made with a combination of 1/2 cup strawberries and a little bit of your favorite sweetener (I use maple).

Simply roughly chop the strawberries and combine the two ingredients in a small pan on the hob. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for a few minutes, until the strawberries begin to break down and the mixture is very syrupy.

Remove from the heat and allow to cool. You can then either place it (chunks and all) at the bottom of your glass before adding the strawberries and creme Frappuccino OR blend into a smooth syrup.

I use a spoon to dig out any leftover puree from the bottom of the glass for extra strawberry flavor and it is truly dessert-like.

PLUS, the puree can be made in advance and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.

The Method

Making this strawberries and cream frappuccino couldn’t be much simpler. Add all of the ingredients (except the toppings) into a high speed blender and blend until smooth.

Recipe Notes and Add-ins

  • You can add some vanilla extract for additional flavor in the drink or to make vanilla whipped cream.
  • This drink is best served and consumed immediately, as it will become watered down as it melts.
  • You could also freeze the milk of your choice into ice-cubes and omit the plain ice cubes entirely.
  • This drink is thick and icy and I love to drink it with a straw. Starbucks uses xanthan gum to bind the milk and ice for a pourable, smooth consistency. However, I prefer to remain gum-free with my recipes, so it’s less ‘smooth’ but just as delicious.
