Today I did something really stupid. I was putting my work clothes in my car and I inadvertently closed my trunk without realizing my keys are in there. The key I was using was my spare key because I lost my original about a year ago. Question to you is anyone opened the door before without the key? And if you did what tool and technique did you use?

Please do not reply with "Call a locksmith" because I obviously have thought of that already and I am trying to save money

Thanks for your help.

Coat hanger, just wiggle it.

Seriously, call the cops and tell him you locked it. They have the Slim Jim since they do it a lot for people. You will need to prove you own it though, so make sure you have your registration on hand. Also, AAA? Roadside assistance? I think Honda or your insurance might have it included.

This is new, never saw it before:

Did you lock the trunk release beside your driver's seat?

I did the same thing but i had my spare key.

I dont know how to help you here but i can give you some advice. When you get your key back, make a copy of the blade, just the blade, not the key fob or anything... just the metal blade. It will fit in your wallet so keep it there. So WHEN, not if, you lock your keys in the trunk again, you can whip it out and open the trunk. It saved me twice.

If you lose that key blade, dont worry, it cant be used to start the car.

I did this once and called a locksmith. The only way he could get the door to unlock was this wierd looking slim jim that raised up through the window into the inside and just pushed the unlock button. A regular coat hanger will only jack up your window. I would advise you to leave it to the professionals.

what u can do it tape the spare blade under the car somewhere and no one would think of that. so when u get lock out. the keys are under the car.

Slim Jims wont work on our cars

They make "car stealing kits". It comes with a wedge, airbag, and a metal rod (hanger). Wedge the wedge to open the door a little. Insert the airbag inbetween the door and frame and inflate it. Stick the hanger in and push the unlock button.

You will most likely scratch your car and bend the door where the wedge was.

I thought a slim jim was just a flat metal rod with a notch or hook at the end

Yeah, but I dont know what it is called so I just reffer to it as "this wierd looking slim jim" It was more of just a thick heavily modified coat hanger.

haha funny thing about this is that we did it the other day, and we had an old school kit on hand with the really thin slim jim, but the days of using those are way over. now they do it how people say where you use an air bad to prop the door a bit and stick a rod to hit the switch itself

This actually worked on my friends car, we ran out and tested it after we saw the video. Don't know if it would on our civics never tried.

BTW: I remember the phone you place up to the car, we had to put it on speaker for it to work.

I locked my keys in the trunk and the guy from AAA spent an hour with the car stealing kit trying to get it open and no luck. He had to put a W shaped metal coat hanger down and through the window. Even then it took him about another 30 minutes. At least I know now civics are hard to unlock without breaking a window.

well i work on my car a lot! and i mean a lot! i take the car apart and everything.

now they use the same stuff that is on bike brake. how you press the brake and the line within the black tube moves to get the brakes on. that is what they are using on our locks. so its all covered up. the only way to unlock it is somehow unhooking a bracket, lifting it out of the socket and pulling on the door lock. which would take forever. your better off braking the window :/

I did that a month ago too! I got a Complementary Roadside thing from my dealership.. but I didn't activate it 24 hours in advance. So I couldn't use that...

I had to wait for my spare to get here.

Fail.

But yeah call a locksmith.. YOU can't get into your car without accidently screwing something up. And what's worse paying for a locksmith or paying to replace a car part?

Can you open Honda Civic trunk without key?

If you need to open the Honda Civic trunk without a key, there is a release lever located in the trunk near the battery. To use this method, first locate and press down on the release lever until it clicks into place. Lift up on the handle of the trunk lid and it will pop open.

How do you open the trunk of a Honda Civic from the outside?

Unlock all the doors using the key fob, then pull up on the release handle located on the trunk above the license plate and below the Honda logo. Insert the key into the lock located on the trunk and turn it clockwise. The trunk will automatically pop open or can be opened by pulling up on the release handle.
