Post lipo massage training near me

CLASSES FOR THERAPISTS

Hello, my name is Kathleen Lisson.

Are you a licensed/certified massage therapist with an interest in helping clients recover from plastic surgery, including BBL, facelift, liposuction, mommy makeover and tummy tuck?

Welcome to the online home of my Plastic Surgery Recovery Massage classes. I offer NCBTMB CE for massage therapists looking to improve their skills.

ALL classes are intermediate level (with the exception of Helping Clients After Plastic Surgery - Is It Right For Me?). I do NOT teach pushing fluid out of incisions, using cavitation/ultrasound machines, manual lymphatic drainage massage, or IASTM. I show you how to use skills you already have to help clients after plastic surgery.

I do NOT offer a 'certification' in any skills.

Most classes are eligible for CE units for massage therapists from NCBTMB. Please let me know if you are from New York when you request your CE certificate. I do NOT report CE to any broker. Please request a certificate after you pass the quiz and I will email one to you so that you can self-report your Continuing Education.

Let’s look at the classes:

Intake Skills for the

Plastic Surgery Client

We all learned how to perform an intake in massage school.  What’s different now that we are helping clients after plastic surgery?

We need to know our clients, why they had surgery, how to keep them safe before, during and after their session, and what recovery looks like for them in order to effectively help them with massage therapy.

If you are here, you've heard of me and my work. Maybe you've seen my posts on a Facebook group for lymphatic massage therapists. Maybe you follow my YouTube channel or see me on Instagram or Tik Tok. Maybe you've read my book Plastic Surgery Recovery Handbook. You know I love to share tips and tricks to help people recover from lymphatic massage.

Now I want to help my fellow massage therapists.

I’ve put my entire business model online.

I can, because making YOU more money and more clients won't hurt MY business at all.

There are people getting plastic surgery in every city and state in America (and everywhere else). Even if you don't have a plastic surgeon in your town.

I broke my approach to plastic surgery recovery into three parts.

How to build trust, get a steady stream of clients calling YOU, get surgeon referrals and get clients to book visit 1 and 2 is covered in my MARKETING class. Take this class now so you’ll have time to build a collection of social media content and be ready to go this summer.

How to get clients to rebook visit 3,4,5,6? That’s usually because a combination of fibrosis massage and compression tools is getting them results faster than the other ladies in their plastic surgery FB groups are getting. Learn my top tricks in the COMPRESSION class.

But this Plastic Surgery Recovery and Fibrosis Massage class is my MOST IMPORTANT CLASS.

In Plastic Surgery Recovery and Fibrosis Massage, you'll learn how to use the lymphatic massage skills you already have to help clients recover after liposuction.

You definitely need to take this class if you already have formal training in MLD ( not just from watching videos online) are seeing some success with using MLD for your liposuction clients but want to take your knowledge and practice to the next level by adding fibrosis massage skills to your toolbox.

What is fibrosis massage? No, it’s not just massaging harder, it’s massaging smarter and using tools like heat, vibration and negative compression to reduce fibrosis WITHOUT sacrificing your thumbs and wrists and without your client having to take a pain pill (my clients fall asleep in the middle of their fibrosis sessions).

And no, it's not just 'using a machine' on someone with swelling. We know that just ends up in frustrated clients in 'swell hell,' angry that they wasted their $$ and worried about their fibrosis.

You’ll learn how to explain why you are doing different types of massage at different stages of wound healing until it comes so naturally that new clients will believe you’ve been explaining it for years (and trust you enough to rebook).

Take all three classes and you will know EVERYTHING I do to build my business.

If the boom in plastic surgery just a fad?

Look at the Plastic Surgery FB groups. Women around the country are planning to have liposuction, tummy tucks and more. The pandemic has INCREASED interest in cosmetic surgery.

Will YOU be the one to help them recover?

I woke up the other day to a text message on my phone. The lady said, “may I ask you a few questions as I had surgery 8 weeks ago but I’m so stuck and lost.”

I get similar messages on my Instagram account “Hi, quick question...”

They want to know - what to have on hand to make recovery easier after plastic surgery

They want to know - what questions to ask their plastic surgeon to have the best possible recovery

They want to know  - what to eat before and after surgery to help wound healing, reduce inflammation and stop swelling

They want to know - how to keep their fat alive after their BBL (besides sitting on a BBL pillow)

They want to know - how to self-massage their lumps and bumps after liposuction

They want to know - how to workout safely after plastic surgery to make their waist look smaller and butt look bigger after surgery (all the free workouts on YouTube are focused on weight loss)

They want to know - what they can do at home to reduce swelling, reduce fibrosis and recover faster after plastic surgery

Not everyone can come to my studio for a lymphatic massage, but there is good news! I have put links to all my answers to the most common concerns in one place.

Tips if you won't have surgery for a few years and are at the beginning of your search.

After my reconstructive surgery, I absolutely had no idea which foods could have helped me reduce inflammation and bring my body back into balance.

If what I ate was a big part of recovering from surgery, someone would have told me, right?

The good news is that there is solid research on nutritional needs before and after surgery. Scientists know what nutrients your body needs to heal. I share that research in the Southern California Plastic Surgery Cookbook - the class.

Praise from Clients:

"Kathleen is knowledgeable, informative, supportive and an overall cool person. She's an author who gave me insights to swelling, healing and post-operative care. She is gracious and giving with her knowledge, informing you of what's happening with your body at all different stages of recovery, providing different tips and tricks to mitigate pain and promote healing along the way.

I've finished maybe 8 treatments (give or take) and she was the MVP in my recovery. Her support made me at ease with the constant changes I was enduring and was a helpful aid in trusting the process of recovery. During each visit she listened and informed me on the stage of healing I was experiencing and what to expect or looks out for based on her experiences.

I got the impression that she has an incredibly diverse client-base and her non-judgmental character and open mind enforced how that could easily be true. She caters specifically to your needs and provided a comfortable, relaxing and safe space that is also happens to be conveniently located not far from the closest freeway.

I appreciated that she provided educated feedback and walked away feeling confident in her informed reassurance. As much as her kindness, supportive and funny nature is well worth the 5 five stars alone, I also achieved incredible results after each visit. My swelling noticeably went down each time, leading to less pain and resulted in better results, more quickly."

My 'official bio' below shows what I have done since I became a Certified Lymphedema Therapist and opened my massage business to focus on helping people recover from plastic surgery, but I want to focus first on what brought me to where I am today.

A Childhood Experience of Care

My passion for helping people recover from surgery really started when I was 9 years old. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and I saw how difficult her recovery was.

I saw the people who helped her through the process. Doctors, nurses and family friends. I didn’t fully understand what was happening as a child, and I am so grateful for them as an adult.

A Career Change

Both of my parents passed away from cancer, so when I decided to make a career change at midlife. I chose massage therapy and took extra training to specialize in oncology massage. I used massage to help people going through cancer treatment and with a cancer history. Helping people after surgery at a difficult time in their life.

Training as a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) was the next step, where I learned about how to reduce swelling and fibrosis. Proper compression is a must in treating lymphedema, and CLT’s learn many tricks to use compression to help reduce swelling and fibrosis.

An Interesting Discovery

I noticed that many cancer reconstruction operations are quite similar to plastic surgery procedures. For instance, doctors use liposuction to harvest fat for breast reconstruction and the DIEP flap leaves a scar similar to a tummy tuck.

I tried using the same skills that had worked for reducing swelling and fibrosis and increasing range of motion after oncological surgery on my clients who had plastic surgery - and they work!

Now, I want to share what I have learned with my fellow massage therapists.

How many Post op massages should you get after lipo?

A general recommendation is to have three to five massage treatments, but some patients may experience benefits from as few as one to two treatments. Your cosmetic surgeon can advise you as to whether lymphatic massage will benefit you following your liposuction or other surgical procedure.

Can CNA do lymphatic drainage?

Health care professionals who are licensed to provide touch, such as RN, CN, CNA, PT, PTA, DC, etc., are able to attend this course.

What is lymphatic training?

Lymphatic Massage (or Manual Lymphatic Drainage) is an advanced, therapeutic technique that is used to cleanse and detoxify the body. This technique employs slow, gentle, and deep strokes to assist the movement of lymphatic fluid which can support the overall function of the immune system.

When should you start massages after lipo?

It's recommended that patients who underwent surgeries like liposuction or tummy tucks start with three to five massage sessions beginning two weeks after the procedure. “The timing is ideal because the bruising will be gone, so it won't be painful,” Dr. Doft shares.
