2014 jeep grand cherokee windshield washer hose replacement

I noticed my windscreen washer wasn't spewing liquid. I could hear the pump working. Raised the hood and I see the problem is that the hose is broken near the hood hinge. Tried to find an OEM hose replacement, but it's the holiday weekend and nobody answers the parts departments of several dealers. On line there were some listed for about $14.

I was able to reach the place on the hose where it has a connector in the area just a foot and a half back from the hinge. I disconnected it there and took the piece to an auto parts store (open on the holiday) to see if they had a rubber hose it would fit into. They had a perfect size, and I bought 1'. After cutting off about 6" of the old hose, I had to force the end into the new hose. Then cut a little off the end at the hood, and forced the new hose onto it. No fastener or glue. Really tight. (There's no pressure to speak of on this hose). I put a wire tie at the hood hinge. Works like new.

The hose was brittle, I assume from the extreme heat in Phoenix, and going up and down with the hood caused the break.

I'm posting my fix, because I couldn't find any other mention of this problem anywhere in the forum. Hard to believe folks in hot environments aren't experiencing the same problem. Anyway, hope this can help somebody.

Great tip. The last time I was in Phoenix it got down to 100 deg F at 10 PM.
I am sure I never used the windshield washers. It was so dry the fluid would probably evaporate before it got to the windshield, ok, a slight exaggeration.
Wrap up your battery in some good insulation.

I just had this exact issue on my 2019 and I still haven’t found a fix, so this was a good find. I’ve lived in El Paso with the extreme heat & dry air for 2 years so I’m under the impression that the OEM hose just turns too brittle in the heat.

Are all windshield washer hoses the same size?
